Mictlan: An Ancient Mythical Tale News

Mictecs: from sketches to renders

In our previous post, we shared some sketches of the terrible Mictecs.

When you, the player, will descend into the deepest and darkest levels of Mictlan, you will have to face several challenges and enemies... Mictecs are among the greatest threats.

In our designs, we wanted to highlight their supernatural (hostile) features. They are the spawn of the god Mictlantecuhtli, his people and warriors, a manifestation of the power of death, so their look must honor this divinity.
Their appearance gets more and more intimidating as they become more powerful, this will also be accompanied by new and more challenging combat mechanics.

We would love to hear your opinion and receive your feedback.

Mictlan's abuelitas

Take a look at these fierce abuelitas we are creating to take part in the mythical world of Mictlan!

(Click on the links to watch the video)

The first one is one of the main characters in the game. She is a shaman with healing powers. Her facial features were scanned from an indigenous woman belonging to a small community of indigenous nahuas living in the outskirts of Mexico City. She's part of the 3D scan survey we did in early June 2021.

The second one is a shaman with shapeshifting powers! She can turn into a venomous, dangerous snake.

Tepechichi

Hello, travelers of Mictlan!

Today we present to you the concept art a nocturnal and reclusive creature which, when sighted by the Spanish, was reported and drawn in the colonial manuscripts as a ferocious beast... but it was just a ferret!

This is the Tepechichi, translated from Nahuatl as "dog of the wilds" or "old man of the wilds". It’s an animal with piercing black eyes, prominent and pointy teeth, a thin and long body of thick grayish fur.

Thanks to its sharp and retractile claws, it is capable of climbing trees and walls with great ease.

Be careful and pay attention on your journey, because this agile and naughty being can appear at any time…

We are launching our Kickstarter campaign soon!
(have you registered yet? It only takes a minute!)

Gameplay: WIP

Greetings, Mictlan community!

Have you checked this video from our gameplay? (Of course, it's a work in progress).

We are testing different types of deaths with fantasy elements. What would you like to see, a more realistic style (like Ghost of Tsushima), or more fantasy elements (like God of War)?

We have included different fantastic animations so far in Mictlan, especially related to the fantastic creatures and beasts you will find in the game. Now we're still deciding on whether to add fantasy animations to the main character.

What do you think? Let us hear your opinion!

Mictecas #2

The Mictecas were the first inhabitants of Mictlan, the most loyal lieutenants of the lord of the dead. They were the agents of the underworld, in charge of preventing anyone from leaving the world of Mictlan. Mictecas devoured the dead on their way to the nine regions of Mictlan, they were also the ones who would go to battle when their god commanded them.

Here is another concept art of these terrifying creatures!
