Tulum #2

Today we present to you our progress on the archaeological site settled on the eastern coast of the state of Quintana Roo, known as Tulum.

In Mictlan you will be able to visit the city in its maximum splendor; a city that the Mayans designed as a quadrilateral, so that the four corners are oriented with the cardinal points (you can take a look at these pictures that we already posted!).
Tulum became an important strategic port, is was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya and managed to survive about 70 years after the Spanish began occupying Mexico.

We are launching our Kickstarter campaign, with a minimum of 20K backers (have you registered yet? It only takes a minute!)

Huehuecoyotl #3

In our previous posts, we showed you the different variants that our concept artists developed for Huehuecoyotl. Today we present to you our progress with the 3D modeling of the “Old Coyote”.

In this representation, we see him with two rattles or bells hanging from his right hand, since he is associated with dance and music. He wears a necklace of a cut shell and snails, headdressed with quetzal and eagle feathers, maxtlatl or loincloth of red paper and gold inlays, and matching greaves and bracelets.

This is not the final version, but we believe that it is important to show you the progress of the characters that will be part of the Mictlan universe.

Macuiltochtli

Macuiltochtli, the god symbol of excess and over-indulgence, presented to you in a new variation.

The Sahagún informants describe him with a fine featherwork headdress, facial paint in the shape of a hand, crystal ornaments and an obsidian hatchet. He also carries an enormous calabash filled to the brim with the first pulque, the one that was made by Mayahuel and Patecatl.

As he pours one jicara shell after another for himself, he claims that there is no finer drink than true pulque, the one hailing from Chichinautzin.

Thanks to the unparalleled creativity of our art team, all the historical references have been fused with fantasy elements, as is distinctive of our style, in order to create this kind of character.

What do you think? Do you like it?

It would help us immensely if you decide to sign up to our Kickstarter campaign.
In order to launch the campaign, we need at least 20k people to register to the page. It literally takes a minute to do so, but it would mean the world to us.

Itzmitlanapochcalocan

Beyond Chiconiahuapan (the place of the nine rivers) there's a place known as Itzmitlanapochcalocan, the final step of the journey for all of those who have entered the jaws of the earth.

This great chamber, at the deepest levels of Mictlan, is home to Mictlantecuhtli and Mictecacihuatl, the couple who reigns the underworld.

Historical sources describe it as an incredibly dark place without an exit, where the last offerings are given to the supreme rulers.

The artistic genius of our concept artists brings us a fantastic new vision applied to this mythical abyss. Here, the flames summoned by Mictlantecuhtli are the only light guiding us to his throne, a monument to the power of the god of death, made with the skeleton of a gigantic being from a past era.
