Tepoztecatl in 3D

Behold the god of the copper axe!

We are very excited to show you the first renders of the great and mighty Tepoztecatl.

This god, a member of the Centzon Tōtōchtin ("400 rabbits"), affirms his dominance from the center of Tepoztlan, where he rules as master of its lands and waters.

Check out our previous post about him!

Inspired by the images of the Codex Magliabechiano, our Tepoztecatl has the moon glyph on his chest piece as well as on his shield. His three ribbon bow, associated with pulque, crowns his crest.

The god of the copper axe has joined the world of Mictlán: An Ancient Mythical Tale.

Behind the scenes of character animation

Take a glimpse at the process behind the creation of our characters!

This is how we bring to life the incredible creatures, warriors and gods that will populate Mictlan, capturing the movements of our Mexican actors!

In this video, we show you how the Lord of fire, the great Huehueteotl, is captured for one of the scenes of our official trailer that we are creating.

We want to say a big thank our to our talented team at CDMX, our mocap director Jonny Mehraban and his entire team at Cinética Estudios, as well as our handsome actor Gerardo Amaya, and the group from Atlatl México for their historical advice!

Take a look at the video!

Aztec buildings repurposed by another faith

Did you know that when the Spanish conquistadors conquered Tenochtitlan in 1521, they immediately destroyed one of the most important temples in the city to make room for what would become the principal Christian church in the capital of New Spain?

This became a common practice, and over 68 churches were built over prehispanic buildings that had sacred meaning to the indigenous people.

The work of our amazing sound team

Today we present to you the incredible work of our sound team for Mictlan!

For almost one year we have been working with CEMIKAN band, especially with Abraham, MAZATECPATL, and our first translator in Nahuatl, XAMAN EK, to create the atmosphere, sounds and soundtrack for our ancient mythical world.

We are very proud to present the accomplishments of our compadres in this video. Creating the music for our game is not an easy task, but we have the support of Carlos Cortes, winner of an Oscar as the best sound producer for the movie "Sound of Metal". just like our sound director Samy Guediche, better known as the producer of Psytrance CPU, from our studio in Tokyo Japan.

It is a great pleasure and responsibility to recreate ancient mythical tales, and bring them to life not only visually but with original music, with pre-Hispanic instruments, songs in Nahuatl, and much more!

What a thrill! Enjoy the video!

Ahuianime: 3D model

Remember the Ahuianime?
These were women dedicated to seduction and pleasure, and carried on multiple activities, such as joining the warriors to free them from burdens of the battles. But you can read more about them here!

On this occasion, we show you the progress of a model of the character. While it is a fantasy costume design, it does have some traits that are historically accurate. For example, she has part of the head shaved, while also keeping some of the hair long. The ahuianime also used to dye their hair with a plant called xiuhquilitl, which in Nahuatl means "blue grass", which gave the hair a purple or indigo tone.
