The short-barrelled arquebus

This short-barrelled arquebus is a representation of a prototype that existed in the 16th century. Although this type of weapon probably entered the continent later on, we would like to ask the community about what they think about including this kind of gun in Micltan.

Even though our game is placed in a historic context, we also mix in it some fantasy elements, so we try to involve the community in these kinds of decisions, letting them choose what they would like.

Miquiztetl #4

The cruel Miquiztetl was a deity from the underworld who tried to stop the dead from overcoming the trials of the nine regions. Their journey lasted 4 years, before arriving in Mictlán.

A skillful warrior and the twin sister of the God of Dreams, she attacked those who descended into the world of the dead and terrified them with her fierce and skeletal body. She attacked with her weapons and made them fall into different traps that they had to overcome, before going through the nine levels that blocked their access to Mictlan.

After a long journey through the underground regions, the dead had to get rid of their fears, avoid traps, and tricks by Miquiztetl, to prove that they were capable of freeing their Tonalli (soul) from all the burdens or flaws. They would finally arrive in front of the lord and mistress of death: Mictlantecuhtli and Mictlancíhuatl, rulers of the underworld, who would allow the dead to leave behind all the pain that they had carried during their whole lives and then finally resting.

Mayan women: a study

Did you know that Mayan women liked perfume and a daily bath with cold water?

In Yucatan at the Time of the Spanish Encounter by Fray Diego de Landa, chapter XXXI mentions the following about the cosmetics and clothing of Mayan women:

Their noses were pierced through the small square that divides the windows in the middle to put an amber stone in the hole and had it as an ornament.
They pierced their ears to put on earrings in the same way of their husbands; carved their body from the waist up, except for the breasts.

The Indian women of the provinces of Bacalar and Campeche dressed very modestly. The breasts were covered by tying the clothes under the armpits using a folded blanket. All the others did not wear any clothing other than a long and wide jacket open on both sides.

O the basis of the descriptions and reconstructions from the murals, codex vessels and clay figures by Daniel Parada (Aka Zotz), we shaped our own study of what a noble and commoner woman of Yucatan would look like during the period of the Spanish conquest. Moving away from the stereotypes present in Apocalypto, seeking a respectful balance between historical authenticity and fantasy.

The third omen

For the Aztecs, omens were important events that predicted danger of the empire.

For ten years before the arrival of Cortés and his men, the Aztecs witnessed various omens that supposedly foretold the end of the empire.

The third omen was when a bolt of lightning hit the temple of the god of fire, Xiuhtecuhtli. Sahagun sources indicate that the bolt of lighting had no thunder nor sound associated with it. The inexorable fire and flames overcame the temple and destroyed it.

In this WIP you can see the exact moment when that event took place. To add more drama to the scene, we opted for a night scenario, deviating a bit from the chronicles.

It would help us immensely if you decide to sign up to our Kickstarter campaign.
In order to launch the campaign, we need at least 20k people to register to the page. It literally takes a minute to do so, but it would mean the world to us.
