Completely refreshed Story Mode, with brand new hand-made levels across five distinct regions. Defeat each regional capital to unlock iconic landmarks in Sandbox Mode!

PLEASE NOTE: This is a major, breaking change from the original story mode. When you upgrade to 0.940, you'll receive a notice that your story progress is reset. Don't worry, any upgrades you've already unlocked will carry over to this new version, from extra strikes to setpiece disasters. But you'll need to play through the story to unlock new landmarks in Sandbox Mode!

Story Mode

Use every disaster in your repertoire to conquer each city's unique challenges. There are new objectives to overcome. New megastructures to mangle. And existing megastructures have unexpected new twists. Experiment to take down the indestructible TV tower, or see what effect sharks have on a cruise ship!

Sandbox Mode

Every time you defeat a regional capital, its landmarks will become available in Sandbox Mode. Iconic buildings and recognizable monuments are just the beginning. Look out for offshore oil rigs, floating cargo ships, and even a Ferris wheel!

New Setpiece Disaster

Joining the volcano, hurricane, kaiju and skybeam is an incredible new setpiece disaster: the A-bomb. Earn at least 25 stars in Story Mode and head to the Upgrade Shopping Network to unleash the awesome power of the atom in Arcade and Sandbox!

VERSION 0.930 RELEASE: A BIG SPLASH

This latest flood of improvements to Unnatural Disaster upends the rules of the game, and provides a bridge to the next phase of development.

New Fluid Simulation

The core of this release is the completely new, fully-simulated volumetric water system. Liquid doesn't just react to disasters, it occupies space and can pool, gather, and flow realistically on the terrain!

This doesn't just look cool, it has a big impact on the way the game plays. Take tsunamis. Underwater earthquakes cause waters to recede at first, before roaring back bigger than before and sweeping away anything in their path. But they also require more finesse and strategy to use. The deeper and larger the body of water, the greater the effect. Puddles won't cut it!

Since this is a new and massive change, your feedback (and bug reports) are critical!

A Bigger Sandbox

Plasma Ball

Transformer

Fuel Silo

Sandbox Mode has grown! New tools have been added to take advantage of the updated fluid simulation. Add or remove water to craft your own mountain lakes, reservoirs, canyons, or oceans!

These tools are accessible in Edit Mode under the faucet tab. Terrain tools (raise, lower, level) are now consolidated under the shovel tab.

And there's one more tab you won't recognize: landmarks. This includes a few new toys for creating your own awesome sandbox scenarios:
  • Plasma Ball: Smash this to release a pulse of energy, disabling nearby obstacles
  • Transformer: Erupts in flames on destruction
  • Fuel Silo: Volatile and prone to exploding (try lining them up in a row for extra mayhem!)
What's Next

The fluid simulation rewrite has been an opportunity to clean up some things under the hood and take a big step toward the ultimate 1.0 release. On the way there...

Story Mode is getting an overhaul. The new suite of tools added in this update will open the door to previously-impossible scenarios. Expect to see big changes here soon!

Sandbox Mode has some surprises in store. Without giving too much away, look forward to more goodies in the landmarks tab.

And of course, your feedback will continue to shape the final product. Be sure to share your thoughts with the in-game feedback buttons (email and social media), or right here on the discussion board.

Version 0.922 Release: Skybeam, Chicago, Washington DC, and more

Another week, another wave of Unnatural Disasters! This update features a new setpiece disaster, multiple new challenge cities, and a host of quality-of-life improvements.

New Challenge Cities

Welcome to the Windy City! With an iconic skyline littered with recognizable landmarks, Chicago is the birthplace of the modern skyscraper and the perfect playground for Unnatural Disaster.

No city is more of a lightning rod for fictional disasters than America's capital, Washington DC. This map is centered on the National Mall for maximum disaster-movie-homage potential.

New Setpiece Disaster

But what's the fun of a new toybox without a new toy to play with? The star of this update is a new setpiece disaster, the SKYBEAM. Is it a solar flare? Gamma ray burst? A tragically misguided attempt by alien life to establish communication? Whatever it is, it's an incredibly satisfying way to obliterate a city!

Quality-of-life improvements

Finally, there are some nice QoL improvements to share.

  • News broadcasts are easier to rewatch with the new DVR channel.
  • You can now skip the Breaking News / end-of-game summary animations by clicking anywhere on the screen or pressing the "Q" button.
  • A Retry button has been added to the Pause menu, for those occasions when failure seems inevitable.
  • Kaiju has gotten a buff - powering it up not only makes it rampage for longer, but grow much larger as well.
  • And lots more!

Download 0.922, start spawning those skybeams, and share your thoughts on the discussion board.

Version 0.921 Release: Sandbox Mode overhaul and new disaster combinations

Welcome to the most significant one one-thousandth of a version bump in Unnatural Disaster history! This update completely overhauls Sandbox Mode AND greatly expands disaster interactions. It's two giant leaps crammed into one tiny step!

Sandbox Mode overhaul

First and foremost, Sandbox Mode has received a well-deserved refresh. The UI has been rewritten with clearer iconography and a more visual distinction between Play and Edit mode.

Setpiece disasters like the volcano, previously only available in Arcade Mode, can now be used in Sandbox Mode too. Even better, this includes the new setpiece disasters added in the last update (0.92) - hurricane and kaiju! (Provided you've unlocked them, that is.)

There are also a number of usability and quality-of-life improvements to share. From better debris cleanup to smarter undo functionality to a brand-new tutorial, Sandbox Mode is the place for more crazy and creative fun than ever.

New disaster combos

Continuing with the theme of empowering players to do more, this update also makes big changes to the way disasters work together. Combining disasters and interacting with the environment to amplify their effect has always been a key part of Unnatural Disaster. But now, number and utility of interactions has increased dramatically:

On the left is the old set of positive, neutral, and negative interactions between the core disasters and environmental fire or water. On the right, the newly reimagined set. This update attempts to maximize those positive interactions, so combined disasters are nearly always more than the sum of their parts.

For example, an incoming meteor during a rainstorm will now transform into an ice meteor, causing both meteor and water damage on impact and making a splash even on dry land. Also, lightning strikes that fizzle out on water or under rain can stun and temporarily disable nearby defenses, turning a previously 'wasted' interaction into a powerful new tool for tacking well-defended cities!

Thanks for playing and supporting Unnatural Disaster through Early Access and beyond! Remember, please share your thoughts on the discussion board. Your feedback is essential for perfecting fast-moving and earth-shattering updates like this one.
