Prologue Projections - Update 14.7.41

Hello Shopkeepers!

We have a new patch for you today that we're very excited to share. We hope it improves the early game experience and adds some highly requested things for all you experienced shopkeepers, along with lots of fixes, optimizations, and general improvements.
Highlights
• Major Improvements to the Prologue
 • Major Upgrades to Building Snapping
 • Improved Stealth Mechanics
 • New Item Recipes and Research Board Unlocks
 • Three New Side Quests
 • Golf Cart Driving Animations
 • Improved Japanese Translation

We hope you enjoy it!

Prologue Additions

In this patch we're bringing some more major improvements to the prologue.

We want the experience of playing the prologue to better match the excitement and discovery in the rest of the game, so we've updated some rooms with that goal.

You'll now find projections of different locations on the Island in the leap of faith and dodge rolling rooms. The dodge rolling room also received a complete visual overhaul.

The blocking and parrying room has been redone to look better and improve the flow of players through it. The water type room received some visual improvements to make the water types more clear. The water material itself was redone to look better. And, there are more hidden items and things to find throughout now.

If you haven't played the prologue before or haven't seen it in a while, feel free to check it out on a new save. Hopefully, this will improve the experience for new players coming to the game.

Improved Building Snapping

One of the biggest areas of improvement we've heard you want is making the building system more straightforward to use.

We agree and want the building to be as seamless and enjoyable as possible, so we reworked our snapping system for this patch. We're calling the new system Quick Snap.
Quick Snap
The new snapping system should make it much easier to build downwards, which was a specific pain point with the old system. It also makes it easier to build by looking at where you want the piece to go instead of needing to look at the edge of the last piece to get it to snap.
Detailed Snapping Points (Hold Block)
We added more snapping points to our larger building pieces like walls and doorways so you can more freely build off them. We didn't want these additional snapping points to get in the way of normal building, so you can access these more detailed snapping points by holding block (right click) when building. This should open up the possibilities for a lot of different builds.

Remember that you can always ignore snapping completely by holding shift while building for total freedom.
Better Building Hologram Visibility
We also increased the opacity of the placement hologram so you can better see where you're placing in all lighting conditions and more easily see the color of the hologram, which indicates the piece's integrity.

This should help reduce cases where your pieces break because you didn't realize they wouldn't have enough integrity since you couldn't see the hologram was red.
Quick Snap and Legacy Building Snapping Toggle Option
This new building system feels a bit different from the old one, and while we think it's a significant improvement, we realized that some of you might be used to the existing snapping and want to stick with it.

So, if you would like to, you can change between the Quick Snap and Legacy building snapping in the gameplay settings.

However, we highly recommend you give Quick Snap a try because it brings a lot of improvements. Quick Snap will be enabled by default.

Better Stealth Mechanics

There has been a lot of player feedback on making stealth more viable, so we've been working on a few improvements.

Previously, you could already:
 • Mask your footstep sounds from NPCs by holding crouch (C)
 • Perform sneak attacks by hitting NPCs in the back while they're unaware for 2X damage

In this patch, we've added a few more changes to hopefully make stealth gameplay more viable:
 • Sneak attack damage increased from 2X to 5X damage
 • The angle of hitting NPCs in the back for a sneak attack is now more forgiving
 • Killing an enemy and hitting illegal items will no longer trigger hearing senses

As well as some more improvements to NPC sensing:
 • Reduced hearing range of Outlaws from 20m to 8m to bring them in line with other NPCs
 • Shooting guns should properly alert nearby enemies (suppressed weapons are much quieter)
 • When an NPC engages an enemy, they will alert nearby allies of that enemy as well

In this GIF, you can observe that killing enemies silently in one hit keeps you undetected. We hope you enjoy these changes!

New Item Recipes and Research Tree Unlocks

We've added a few more recipes to the Research Tree for some extra shop stock and decoration options!
Sports and Fitness Items
We heard that one of the more confusing star promotion VIP waves was when your shop filled with Athlete customers because there was not a straightforward way to craft your own Sports and Fitness items.

To help you overcome this challenge and unlock the ability to run a Sports or Fitness-themed shop, we've added 3 new nodes to the research board where you can unlock sports balls, other sports equipment, and exercise equipment.
Rustic Logs Benches and Stump Chairs
To go with the grass floors added in the last patch, we've added item functionality to these pine logs and stumps that you could previously find out in the world but not pick up. Now, you can collect and craft them to decorate your outdoor areas or help fill in a woodsy-themed shop.

The prices for all these items have also been rebalanced with their new recipes in mind.

New Side Quests
Kazai Village Blockade NPC Quest
Can you help reunite Eddie with his girlfriend?

This patch introduces a new quest intended to take early-game players who are hanging around Pop Pop's shop on a little adventure to Kazai Village and into conflict with the Ronin.

As a reward, you'll unlock a new decoration item we think many of you will enjoy selling, using to decorate your shop, or beating people with.

If you've already completed Mayor Yori's quests, this side quest will be a little bit shortened because the Ronin presence has already been reduced. But you can still get the rewards, and you can load up a new save with a friend to try out the quest in its entirety.
Bonsai Cherry Tree Shopkeeper and Quest
By popular request, we also introduced Farr Lind, a bonsai artist who will sell you bonsai cherry tree decorations near the Dojo Shop Plot. She also has a small quest where you can finally unlock the recipe to craft these beautiful little trees.
Guillotine Side Quest
You can now find Tobias Stint in the Kazai Castle Settlement beside a currently inoperable guillotine. Tobias wants to restore the guillotine and marvel at its engineering beauty. You can help him and unlock a special craftable reward in this new quest.

New Golf Cart Driving Animations

We've added all-new animations for driving the Golf Cart! Gone are the days of telepathic driving.

Fidelity FX 1.0 Performance Changes

Enabling FidelityFX 1.0 upscaling in the video settings will now automatically apply a 0.15 reduction in render scale for better GPU performance.

We've also enabled FidelityFX 1.0 upscaling by default for all graphics settings other than Ultra to hopefully provide a nice GPU boost for lower end PCs. If you want the look of the game from before, just set Upscaling to Normal with Render Scale at 1.0!

Improved Japanese Translation

We heard a lot of feedback that the Japanese translation in Saleblazers was lacking in a few ways, so we spent some time refining it and making various improvements. It's still not on the same level as our Spanish and Chinese translations, but we've observed significant improvements so we hope it improves the experience for anyone playing in Japanese.

This is also a reminder that if you see any issues or areas for improvement in the translation for the language you play in, please let us know on Discord or in the Steam forums, and we will work on improving it.

Dedicated Server Progress

You'll be able to connect directly to dedicated servers via an IP address, so we've added that option to the join button this patch. It's mostly designed for dedicated servers, which have yet to be released. You shouldn't be using this feature unless you're trying to connect to a dedicated server.

If you want up-to-date news, join https://discord.gg/Saleblazers, where we might even have public dedicated server tests!

This is another hotfix to resolve some final save issues for some players. The underlying issue was always dormant, but it was exposed more frequently by a recent change for more frequent save backups (ironically to prevent save loss due to power outages).

We're very sorry about this and know how frustrating it is to lose save data, so we'll be keeping a tighter eye on this in the future.

If you experienced issues, you can go into ESC -> Help -> Load Backup Save to restore your game to any of the 3 previous states!

TinyTeams Festival 2024 Patch

Hello shopkeepers!

Saleblazers is a part of TinyTeams 2024! Check out the rest of the festival here.

In this update, we're bringing you some stability and optimization improvements as well as some general gameplay updates.
Highlights
• Improved performance
 • Better rain
 • More robust backup save system
 • Improved building safety standards in Kazai Village
 • New grass path tiles
 • News on Saleblazers Dedicated Server

Happy Shopkeeping this weekend!

New Gameplay Trailer

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
It's been almost a year since launch, so we've decided to make a new trailer for our Steam page to better communicate what the game will be like for new players.

Thank you to uRBAN_Spaceman for sending us your save file and allowing us to use your shop in the trailer.

It's a little more raw and less cinematic than our previous gameplay trailer. I hope you like it!

Grass Optimization and Visual Improvements

The vertex count of grass has been dramatically reduced for better performance. In spite of this, grass also appears fuller due to shader and vertex changes for an overall visual improvement. The amount of grass throughout the game remains unchanged -- it just looks denser and runs faster.

Notice how the grass in the red circle appears fuller.

We've seen some systems jump from 100 FPS to 110 FPS. It's a win-win scenario: better visuals and better performance!

Increased Rain Intensity

We've always had physically calculated rain in the game, but it just wasn't very visible. Now it's a lot more pronounced when it's raining, which should make your shop feel a lot more cozy when you're indoors!

The particle has also been simplified a bit so that it's a little more performant.

Kazai Village Building Safety Improvements

Our Summer intern, Brandon, has helped us smooth out the experience of navigating Kazai Village safely by adding some much-needed railings and ropes to the edges of the platforms.

These changes come along with a lot of collider fixes. This should improve how the collision matches up with the visuals and it reduces the overall number of colliders to improve performance. There are also a few added props and other visual improvements.

Backup Save Improvements

This patch introduces a character save backup system that works alongside the World save backup system and a system for making multiple backup saves and choosing which one to load.

In the event of a power outage or interruption in saving that would corrupt the character save process, you can load up your character backup by:
 • Going in game, navigating to the Help menu in the settings, and selecting Load Backup Save
 • Renaming the character backup save file found at C:\Users\YOURPCNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Airstrafe Interactive\Saleblazers\Saves\YOURSTEAMID to the name of your character save

As of this update, when you select Load Backup Save from the Help Menu, the game will prompt you to select which save you want to load from your last 3 backups. Based on the timestamps, you can gauge which one will recover the data you lost.

When you load a backup save from the Help Menu, your World and character will roll back to the older save, overwriting your current save. Backup saves are generated automatically whenever the game saves via autosave or exiting the game to the menu.

Clients can also now use the Load Backup button which will rollback their character inside of another player's lobby. This should resolve any issues where clients lose any inventory progress in multiplayer sessions.

Grass Path Tiles

We heard you wanted more path options to customize your shops, especially when building outdoor spaces like courtyards. So, in this update, we added new grass path tiles, which you can research in the research board and then craft using plant fiber. We're excited to see what additions you make to your builds with these tiles.

Dedicated Server Update

We've gotten far enough in the dedicated server that we'll be pushing towards releasing this.

In the coming weeks, we'll be testing it out internally and adding server role functionality so that you can host public lobbies with some safeguards against griefing.

We hear you want a Linux server, but we're planning on working on the Windows version first. However, as with other dedicated servers, you should be able to run it with Proton or Wine.
