The latest update for Astatos is here! This update includes this month’s Hero Skin, along with some bug fixes!

With the new year underway we’ve been hard at work on more content for Chapter II. While some of the team took time off for the lunar new year and the spring festival, we’re back at work on new story and art assets for the game.

• A new Hero Skin has been made available as the monthly reward. The previous month’s Hero Skin has been added to the in-game store.

• The Trials menu has been reorganised to make it easier for players to discover A.I. battles and the tutorials. As a part of this change, “Training Trials” have been renamed to “Solo Trials”.
  
• A new system has been implemented to synchronise hero activation data during the Hero Stage. In the long term, the goal of this system is to improve multiplayer stability in high-ping situations, and to potentially allow for players to leave and re-join Trials.

Our team is still working hard on Chapter II story scenes, but we hope our Crown Mages enjoy the changes we put aside for this patch!

[hr][/hr] Redesigned Store: The in-game store has been redesigned from scratch! With the addition of the 31st Hero Skin to the game this month, we found that the previous interface layout was reaching its limit and becoming particularly difficult to search.

The original interface was designed very early in the game’s development, and we didn’t have a solid idea of what kind of content would be included. As such, we’ve wanted to change it for a while now.


The store can now display more items at a time, as well as spotlight new skins, and everything is quicker to navigate too. This new redesign extends to the item descriptions, and unlock confirmation pop-ups which now have a consistent look and feel. Hero Skins are now displayed in release order, with the most recently released one shown first.

The store backend is also more flexible— allowing us to easily introduce new item types, extend the designs, and directly navigate the player to a specific category or item.

As this new interface is a big change, please let us know if you run into any bugs or issues!

Monera Help Pop-Up: Along with the new store, there’s now a UI to direct players towards ways they can earn Monera. Clicking on each option will automatically navigate you to the relevant menu.

Hero Skins in Deck: Unowned Hero Skins can now be previewed and unlocked from the Deck Menu. This means you can easily view all skins available for a given Hero in one place.

Note: Only Hero Skins that are available for purchase in the Store can be previewed.

• All store text has been revised for clarity. Hero Skins now have unique flavour text.
  
• Notification pop-ups have new buttons with better contrast on dark backgrounds.
  
• [English Only] The Hero Skin, ‘Krokos - Snow’ has been changed to ‘Krokos - The Dazzling Peak’.
  
• [English Only] The Hero Skin, ‘Makari-Hari - Date’ has been changed to ‘Makari-Hari - Tryst of the Divines’.
  
• Your current Monera value is now displayed on the following menus:
  Trials > Rewards Trials > Conquest Trial > Level

This December marked the second Anniversary of Astatos! A lot has changed since we entered Early Access, including the addition of bots, tutorials, and eventually story Trials. Now that our efforts are focused predominantly on content production, we hope to have lots of quality updates to share with you all in 2024!

While our team has been busy during the holiday season, we’ve been making more progress on the development of Chapter II plus other features and improvements. Some of these include improving the user interface of the in-game store and prototyping a new solo game mode for Trials! We look forward to sharing more details when they’re ready.

• Fixed an issue where Hero Card Drafting would not function correctly if no player owns Hero Pack I or Hero Pack II.
  
• Fixed an issue where Hero Card Drafting would not function correctly if two players clicked the random button simultaneously.
  
• Fixed several issues where Hero Card Drafting would not function correctly if two players picked the same Hero simultaneously.
  
• [Conquest Trial] Fixed an issue where a Hero would not be banned automatically during Hero Card Drafting.
  
• Fixed an issue where players would occasionally be kicked from the game at the beginning of the Trial.

• Hero Card Drafting is now used in Training Trials, replacing the Hero Pack settings. This should provide an experience closer to the regular trials.
  
• Upon beginning a Conquest Trial in multiplayer, 2 Hero Cards are banned at random. This change is aimed towards increasing the gameplay variety in Conquest Trials.

• [Linux Only] Disabled video playback on the login screen if running the game on Linux using Proton in order to prevent a crash.

• Fixed an issue that caused some Story Trials in the Chapter ‘Ab Initio’ to soft-lock if the player was playing on ‘Easy’ or ‘Story’ difficulty.
  
• Significantly improved the performance of the splash/login screen animation on weaker devices.
  

[h3]Game Changes[/h3]

• Added a setting to let the user disable non-essential video playback.
  

[h3]Known Issues[/h3]

• [Linux Only] Due to video format changes, the splash/login screen animation crashes when the Windows version of Astatos is run on Linux using Proton. This animation is automatically disabled on Steam Deck to avoid this issue. In the future we plan to work out a way to disable this animation on other Linux devices as well.
