Next Fest Demo Update

Wow, what a week! The Steam Next Fest is almost over, thank you EVERYONE that wishlisted the game, played the demo, joined the Discord to leave feedback, commented on the Steam forums, tweeted out screenshots, drew fanart, streamed the game, made videos, took screenshots and attempted speedruns. There’s thousands of you and it’s been both a very humbling and encouraging experience for our team of 3 people and our contributors.

Many of you have noticed: there’s been a lot of updates over the week. We have been applying hotfixes, tweaks and patches daily. We have to admit: the demo you saw on Monday was very buggy, but thanks to your reports and a lot of work, the demo has achieved a level of quality we are close to proud of and hopefully you’ll find enjoyable over the coming months, as we won’t be taking it down. We’re still ironing out bugs and we’ll keep updating it, so please keep telling us your thoughts and sharing insights and suggestions.

For those who played the demo in its broken state and are planning to return to it, here’s a general patchnote:

  • Added a clearer description to the Puppeteer implant.
  • Added new areas to the Tutorial.
  • Added new quest logs.
  • Android does not collide with random invisible walls.
  • Augmentation UI should not cause a continuous sine wave tone.
  • Consumable items have been fixed.
  • Fall damage has been lowered.
  • Fixed flame damage on enemies.
  • Fixed inventory wipe on save.
  • Fixed issues with activating implants on load after death.
  • Fixed issues with inventory items not saving.
  • Fixed priest conversation.
  • Fixed the main menu for ultrawide resolutions.
  • Fixed transparent textures not working with raycasts (e.g. gunshots).
  • Headshot now work as intended.
  • Improved reliability of the light meter.
  • Improved the intended “first time player” tutorial guidance.
  • Instances of floating magazines removed, they can’t be “stolen” from enemy guns either.
  • Inventory no longer activates during hacking, neither do you switch to third person.
  • Issues with loading after death have been addressed.
  • Items do not appear as “duplicated” inside containers.
  • Mosin sights have been fixed.
  • Night vision has been remade.
  • NPC behavior on load mostly fixed.
  • Resolved issue with receiving quest items from NPCs after load.
  • Save menu works reliably.
  • Snipers should not be sliding around, their laser sights no longer detach from their guns.
  • The “slide” section works as intended (you survive).

Anyone that misses the original demo can still play it on itch.io to compare and contrast.

Thanks again for both encouragement and critique. You make working on Peri worth it.
