1.3.6W Update - Rankings, Buffs, Moving Apartments and More!

Hey Neighbours!

Hope you’ve all been well! Time is flying but things are ticking along and I have a chunky update for you today, here are the most exciting bits:

Move apartments!
Regret your life choices after moving in to a specific building? Well now you can move to a bigger apartment or a different building. Each building has layouts for studio/1/2/3 bed apartments and each have their own quirks. Pay off your generous and then check the listings at the desk in Quality Real Estate to see what’s available and get to packing~

Personal and professional rank progressions!
You can now track and improve your progress at various job/personal aspects of life in Garland. Each area has 5 rankings to max out as you live your life and when you level up to a new rank, you’ll get new perks including things like: better sale prices for items, better earnings, better spawn, tool use or harvest rates etc.

Buffs!
In addition to the buffs you can get from ranking up a category, there are also now buffs applied with certain items eg. wearing the speedy shoes will boost your walking speed. You can also purchase Hannah’s Buffins (Buff Muffins, she thinks the name is hilarious) from the Medical Center for bonuses in a variety of categories that last the day.

Sounds!
I’ve started the process of adding in all the new sounds to make Garland feel more alive. The biggest changes you’ll notice here are in UI and menus, though the animal sounds are pretty fun too :D

Early Access 1.3.6W - Patch (PC and Mac) (Full and Demo) - 08/04/2025

General:
- Economy: adjusted pricing for items, fish, clothing, furniture.
- Hotel TV - updated to new system, edited all tutorial tv shows and updated images.
- ATM - fixed soft lock if achievement fires between ATM actions. (ATMs will be updated with new UI soon)
- Train travel - Updated to not require payment when a Monthly/Yearly train ticket is in your key items.
- Fixed various typos.

Player:
- Full overhaul of Physical/Mental Energy gains and drains.
- Fixed - issues with Mental Energy updating repeatedly after event completion.
- Adjusted and added Mental Energy and Physical energy drains/gains in multiple existing areas in game (jobs, events, npc interactions).
- Added various physical/mental energy gains/drains to using tools and interactions.

Rankings:
- You can now track progression in various jobs or personal developments. Check your current progress in the Player Info App.
- When you reach a new rank, new perks and buffs will be applied automatically (better sale prices for items, better earnings, better spawn, tool use or harvest rates etc.)
- Ranks have 5 levels + Max.
- Added Personal rank tracking for: Physical Energy, Mental Energy, Charisma.
- Added Professional rank tracking for: Gig Economy, Private Detective, Angler, Gardener, Recycler, Geologist

Luck:
- Luck is now randomly generated daily, there are 5 level.
- Good luck days give you buff across multiple categories. Bad luck days will give a debuff across those categories.
- Added cutscene to explain initial bad luck day.
- Added UI for crystal ball furniture item to check daily luck.
- Added shop to shrine to purchase Petal Fortunes, these tell you your daily luck and apply a small buff (can be good or bad!)

Buffs:
- Added systems for tracking, adding, stacking player buffs in various areas including: job pricing, sell and buy pricing, harvest chances, various spawn rates, petal points, tool usage amounts,.
- Converted existing status ailments (mental energy drain, speeds, energy saver accessibility option) to buffs.
- Added auto buff application/removal based on personal/professional rankings.
- Added introduction scene explaining energy and buffs to Hannah’s Medical Center.
- Pets - having a pet will now add a small mental energy buff.
- Added buffs to various consumable items.
- Added Buff Tab to Player Info App for troubleshooting.

Inventory/Item Upgrades
- Fixed - items moving when npcs or held furniture moves through them.
- Fixed - crash with item id’s not registering if items have been added in wrong format.
- Cameras: Added use and refill functionality to Digital Camera, Efficient Camera and Sage’s Camera.
- Cleaning Cloth: Added use and refill functionality to Absorbent Cloth and Super Cloth.
- Watering Can: Added use and refill functionality to Efficient Watering Can, Magic Watering Can.
- Speedy shoes: now apply a speed buff
- Yearly/Monthly Train tickets now work (make sure to Use them to add to key items).
- Added ability for item to trigger temp and perm buffs.
- Added various 1 day buffs to: Healthy Buffin, Chocolate Buffin, Garden Buffin, Lucky Buffin, Speedy Buffin, Charming Buffin.
- Added Key Items tab to hold important things (apartment key, train tickets).
- Adjusted physical/mental energy amounts of many consumable items.

Shops:
- Added train ticket shop with monthly/yearly tickets to Garland Central Station.
- Added Hannah’s Buffin shop to the medical centre.
- Added Shrine shop with Petal Fortunes.
- Fixed typo in seedlings category preventing sale to florist.
- Fishing shop can now buy fishing rods.
- Antiques shop now stocks: basic single bed in 3 colours, crystal ball.
- Crystal shop now stocks: crystal ball.

Furniture:
- Converted windows to be furniture items for future decoration options.
- Converted beds to be furniture items.
- NPC vanities can now be used to adjust player appearance and refill water.
- Added check to confirm if things stored on tables still exist when trying to move table.
- Fixed - tables loading in with incorrect item placement heights. Tables in old save files may need to be removed and set down again to reset.

Building Events:
- Added Diary tab which now updates with extra info after every building event.
- Fix issue with old save files occasionally not reading ticked off building events correctly.

Moving apartments:
- After paying off your interest free City Council Move in loan, you can now move to a new apartment in the same or different building.
- Note - you can only complete building events in your current building but progress is saved when you move so you can pick up where you left off if you ever want to move back.
- All 4 buildings have these apartment sizes, each with different layouts: studio (your starter place), 1 bed, 2 bed, 3 bed.
- The council only lends your first move in costs, so you will need to pay cash up front to move.
- Available apartments in other buildings are the the same size as your current place.
- Available apartments in your current building is one bedroom bigger than your current place.
- Check available apartments at the counter of Quality Real Estate.
- Added move in cutscene, packing and unpacking mini games.
- Added building manager intro scene when moving to a new building.
- Added furniture and storage move actions between apartments.
- Added available apartment menus, explanation info and triggers in Quality Real Estate.
- Updated apartment descriptions.
- Adjusted locations for petal events in non-starter apartments. Please note, this is a work in progress and petal event placements currently do not take into account any furniture you have placed or moved yourself.
- Added apartment key key_item to move in events.

Sound:
- Added and adjusted many new sfx including: refill cloth, refill camera, refill watering can, apply wallpaper, drop item, pet food refill, music cd.
- Animals - cat, lizard, hemi, owl, pigeon, raven, seagull noises when patting or running away.
- Tree bonk rustle.
- Various menu opens/closes/selections/button presses/scrolls, stockmarket open, initiative stamp.
- Added walking sounds to npcs.
- Added seasonal walking sounds.

Save files:
- Adjusted persistence and save files for windows/beds as furniture items and to be in initial player room set up.
- Added Buffs, rankings, luck, building diary unlocks etc to save files.
- Adjusted daily songs save format so they aren’t messed up when new sounds are added.
- Added fallback reset for players on custom playlist bgm if it’s not found on load in.

Menus/UI:
- General - Adjusted various colours/backgrounds
- Initiatives App - Fixed current tally count not displaying on some Initiatives.
- Help/News App - Added reset to scrolls on selection.
- Relationships App - Updated button artwork, added petal event tracking graphics.
- Scroll Areas - Fixed scroll logic so it works better to centre selections when controller/keyboard control is used. Adjusted speed to be more insistent regardless of scroll box size. Adjusted entry/exit logic.
- Player Info App - As mentioned in previous updates, you can no longer change clothing/features in the app after your initial creation. Change features at your bathroom vanity anytime and change clothing by purchasing items from the clothing store. In a future update you will need to visit the city council to change the name on your player id (which you can still do at anytime).
- Player Info app - Added ranking and buffs tabs.
- Inventory App -Added Key Items tab to hold important things (apartment key, train tickets)
- Building App - Added Diary tab.

Dialogue/Textboxes:
- Full update to new UI system.
- Adjust portraits for different screen sizes.
- Add slide in/out for textboxes. (note, still adjusting timing on this and planning to add an option to turn off menu animations for accessibility)
- Lifts/Train: fixed text overlaps.
- Updated various textbox triggers to work with new UI system.
- Adjusted click to continue logic to prevent accidental selections.
- Lottie - Fixed wrong display name.
- Lottie - fixed intro event not triggering.
- Adjusted generic npc fallback text.
- Fixed rare crash when dialogue not found or incorrect format.
- Fixed - Regular Fish catch dialogue not found.

Settings:
- Added “In world highlights” control
- Added ability to turn off nightly auto save.
- Added verbose log on/off, moved log to accessibility settings page.
- Added auto select to use smaller hotbar layout on small screens (can still be overridden).
- Added optimisations to persistence to support future changes.
- Added health/Inventory amounts to debug overlay.

Optimisations:
- Fixed excessive logging from shopfronts in certain situations.
- Adjusted some logic around spawning.
- Small changes to camera refresh on window change.
- Moved some object code from draw > step event to support integrated graphics cards better.
- Adjusted options for outlining sprites.
- Streamlined logging in various areas.
- Added control for auto sfx choices on buttons, entry/exit, transitions.
- Cleaned up various code in player draw to prevent !instance_exists crashes.
- Overhauled player stat scripts, sleep timers etc for optimisation.
