Make Way Patch 1.2 early opt-in available + 40% off!

Hi racers,

Today we're rolling out a huge update on the beta branch, with Patch 1.2 bringing a heap of improvements to online play, alongside some other gameplay tweaks to make for an even smoother racing experience.

To celebrate, Make Way will be available at a 40% discount for the next seven days! It's the perfect opportunity to grab your friends and create some vehicular mayhem.

Patch notes are listed below (there are a lot!), but for anyone who hasn't accessed the beta yet, follow these steps:

Right click 'Make Way' in your Steam Library and select 'Properties'
Select 'Betas'
In the 'Beta Participation' drop-down select 'patch_1.2'
The update should now download

Please note: if you play on the 1.2 patch, you will only be able to play against others on the same patch. This is due to some fundamental changes to how online play works in the new patch, which would cause problems with players on earlier patches on PC or console.

With that in mind, here's a comprehensive list of everything that's been updated and fixed in this bumper patch:

GAMEPLAY CHANGES

  • Added ability to use bots in an online match
  • New "client authoritative movement" has been added, making client vehicle / control feel much more responsive when playing online
  • Added a "relay server" fallback option, to help players with connection issues
  • Refactored shortcut logic so anyone attempting to take a shortcut won't be killed when offscreen
  • Added horn timeout to stop players that hold / abuse horn sounds
  • Added "select vehicle colour" option to the vehicle selection screen
  • Added "checkpoint skip" logic, so players move to the next checkpoint if they fail a section three times
  • Add toggle to "hide lobby code" so people streaming the game don't get bombed with random players
  • Doubled the amount of XP when playing a "race mode" race, meaning "classic mode" will unlock faster for new players
  • Added an XP multiplier if there are fewer players, so it feels a bit fairer when playing with just two people
  • Increased machine gun, shotgun, and tesla coil effectiveness
  • Nerfed the shotgun to one bullet
  • Added networked player control on vehicles on the victory screen

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed client shortcuts always being disabled when playing online (which means in most cases they would never work)
  • Fixed the selected race mode being reset after 3 games when playing online
  • Fixed numerous de-sync issues when track building
  • Fixed duplicate players when host and client are both playing on a LAN with certain routers
  • Fixed track space on special "exit" pieces so players aren't destroyed (and get stuck in a loop) when they are used
  • Fixed forced auto-selecting track pieces when clients are sometimes picking
  • Fixed it so that invites work when launching a game on Steam
  • Fixed some achievements not working on Xbox and Steam
  • Added message pop-up if client can't join match because of a crossplay mismatch
  • Fixed the game trying to load a vehicle texture that was already loaded on the select vehicle screen, making the screen lag
  • Fixed prop spawning so that the trees, and other props, spawn correctly on the Arctic Tundra level
  • Fixed sudden death win order
  • Increased minimum amount of checkpoint time when solo, and checked that all pieces have enough time, so that certain sections should now be possible to complete alone
  • Corrected missing animation on certain (mirrored) track pieces
  • Added lag compensation for projectiles, so that they are more in sync
  • Fixed profile issue where middle players signing out would cause logic issues
  • Stopped machine gun bullet impact VFX spawning on last target if it misses
  • Fixed some weapon barrels being rotated incorrectly
  • Fixed vehicles sometimes being permanently inflated
  • Fixed vehicles on the start line being jumbled
  • Various crash fixes

Make Way Publisher Stream

We're celebrating the Steam Next Fest with the release of a multiplayer demo of the forthcoming chaotic racing game with a DIY twist, Make Way.

Speed around loops, dart through train crossings, drift around helter skelters, and unleash wacky weaponry in this modern take on classic top-down multiplayer racing games. The twist? You build the track.

Some of the Secret Mode (the publishers of Make Way) Agent got together to record a stream of what you can expect from the Demo. Who is the champ? Watch the stream to find out!

About the demo:
In the demo, you'll have access to the slightly more relaxed Race Mode, or you can ramp up the chaos in Classic Mode which adds weapons and removes some of the walls keeping you on the track. There are eleven cars to pick from and a host of track pieces and obstacles to place, including the dastardly Drawbridge and the seriously silly Side Fan. Some of these pieces are unlocked as you play – try to reach level 10 to see everything the demo has to offer.

You can download the Make Way demo here - get ready to make some new frienemies!
