Squirmish Patch 0.3.22 Early Access

This is a quick patch to fix an error that we recently discovered.
 • Fixed an issue where game would freeze when selecting the format 2 Group Monte on the SPAR page.

Squirmish Update 0.3.21 (Early Access) — Custom Clash PvP

New flexible and customizable PvP experience

This update introduces Custom Clash, a new casual PvP experience for Squirmish: The Videogame.

Online Multiplayer is not new to Squirmish, and indeed, battling against other worthy human opponents is likely the most challenging and fun way to play. However, we've found that our existing PvP offerings, Matchmaking and Fight a Friend, are not yet creating enough opportunities for players to find timely PvP matchups.

In practice, a skill-based pairing system like Matchmaking needs a sizable community to function effectively and during Early Access ramp up, our player base is not yet big enough to reliably fuel the Matchmaking queue. Also, Matchmaking necessarily limits play to a minimal set of play formats at any one time.

In contrast, Fight a Friend, our other PvP experience, does support all available play formats, from Standard to Classic 70 to 2 Group Monte, but challenges are limited to a player's set of Steam Friends.

This brings us to Custom Clash, our new more flexible and customizable PvP experience which we hope will create many more opportunities for PvP play.

In Squirmish, when you enter the Custom Clash area, the first thing you'll see is a list of games, hosted by other players, actively looking for an opponent. Each brief listing shows who is hosting the game, the game's configured play format, additional options settings, and whether the game is locked with a passcode.

Selecting any of these game listings takes you to a new page focused specifically on the selected game. There you can see more about the configured format, set player options, and if you wish, join the game.

Back at the Custom Clash main page, if no games are available or you don't see any games configured to your liking, you may want to host a game yourself.

There are two primary approaches to hosting a Custom Clash.

In the first case, you simply configure a Squirmish game in your favorite play format and host it without passcode protection. While you wait for an opponent, a listing for your game (which anyone can join), will appear in other players' Available PvP Games list. Additionally, other players will see red circle badges on the FIGHT! PvP screen and other places to alert them to the immediate availability of Custom Clash PvP games.

Alternatively, if you have an opponent lined up who is not one of your Steam Friends, you can host a password protected Custom Clash and share the generated passcode via other communication channels, (text messaging, social media, etc.).

This is an excellent way to utilize the # looking-for-game channel at the Squirmish Discord server. Post a message there that you're looking for a game, and when someone responds, give them the passcode so they can meet you in Squirmish for a game.

Have fun everyone and thanks for playing!

HAPPY HALLOWEENIES! Have some free card treats from our newest, spookiest group!

In early September we introduced you to Punkin Haid... a free new card, and the first member of the new group the Halloweenies.

"Splendid!" you said, enthused. "A new card with which to confound my adversaries, and give those bounders the what-for!"

"But what is this?" you continued, aghast. "A group card... without a group? However shall I exploit this brute's group ability? What kind of mad world is this where you get a group card that has no comrades with which to fraternize? It is like getting a glorious scoop of cookie dough ice cream only to discover some rotter has already consumed all the cookie dough!"

Well, the cookie dough has arrived! The Halloweenies 6-card DLC pack is here to sweeten your game and perplex your opponents! And, seeing as we don't want you playing any tricks on us, these treats are absolutely free for the download!

You've probably already met PUNKIN HAID, notable as the only Halloweenie that is truly hollow... he was already added to your game automatically in early September.

This free DLC card set introduces you to:

SPOOKSIE, the duke of spook, the ghostest with the mostest, the, uh, physician of apparitions!

THE UNSMELLABLE MAN... if you smelt it, it ain't him what dealt it!

GILLBERT, the slimy creep from the briny deep!

NOSTRILATU, a demented dracula whose schnoz can attackula! He can smell your blood from here!

SLENDERFELLA, the riot on a diet! You can only see him if you cross your eyes!

...And playing Upchuck Berry on slime guit-airy in the cemetery, we have that rotabilly rocker ZOMBIE B. GOODE!

If you and/or your opponent get two of these fiends in play, you'll activate their group ability.... which brings out the Halloween trick or treats every time you play:

"On your turn, roll a die. If you roll under the number of Halloweenies in play, draw a card."

"At long last!" you exclaim, excitedly. "Now I can finally give my antagonists the Halloweenie battering I've been yearning to, and which they so richly deserve! But what... what of my laundry? Did I remember to put it in the dryer? And the fabric softener... was it forgotten?"

We request that in the future you please stay on topic.

So, anyhow, download these mad monsters already! Unless... unless they've already downloaded you first! AGH! EEK! GROPP! GLEEP!
OOK!

 • SPOOKSIE
 • SLENDERFELLA
 • THE UNSMELLABLE MAN
 • ZOMBIE B. GOODE
 • NOSTRILATU
 • GILLBERT
How to play with Halloweenies DLC cards
Once you have the Halloweenies DLC, new Halloweenies cards will show up in Standard format, usually in small quantities, but sometimes as the featured group. Standard can be played in PvP Matchmaking, PvP Fight A Friend, and Solo Sparring against bots.

Choosing Halloweenies as your group in 2 Group Monte format is a great way to play with the new cards. 2 Group Monte format can be played in PvP Fight A Friend, and Solo Sparring.

Of course you can always build a custom deck featuring your favorite Halloweenies cards and use it in PvP Fight A Friend, and Solo Sparring.

If you don't have the Halloweenies DLC or you've disabled it, the new cards are displayed as locked in the CARDS area and allow limited interactions. Additionally, the locked cards do not show up in game play. For PvP battles, the new cards are temporarily unlocked if either player has acquired the Halloweenies DLC.

TRICK AND TREAT! Halloween is arriving early in Squirmish!

Happy Halloween!

Halloween is not for over a month still, you say? Never mind that! I started seeing Halloween sales back in July. If you ask me, they should start in January! Can you really have too much Halloween? Why, if you waited until Halloween day to get a bag of candy corn, it wouldn't have time to get properly stale.

Well, I'm excited to tell you that we have just the free treat to get you in the mood for Halloween that's even better than stale candy corn!

Meet Punkin Haid!

Punkin Haid is a new free card in Squirmish that you can play with starting today with our latest update! And unlike your other Halloween treats, he will not rot the teeth right out of your skull!

Punkin Haid is the first member of a new Squirmish group, a gaggle of gruesome goons known as The Halloweenies!

Part of a new group? But where are the rest of them, you ask? I'm so glad you asked! I like the way you ask, with that smile on your face and gleam of genuine, sincere curiosity in your eye. I can tell you really care about the answer, and you're not just asking to fill an uncomfortable gap in our conversation. Our conversations are always such a pleasure... or, at least they would be if not for the smell. Why oh why must you keep eating all those raw Vidalia onions? Like apples you eat them, with nary a core left behind! Who ever heard of such a thing?

Where was I?

More Halloweenies will be released in our first DLC pack next month in time to celebrate Halloween in the month in which Halloween actually occurs!

While Punkin Haid is fun to play with by himself, his creepy companions have a fun group ability to use when it is activated:

"On your turn, roll a die. If you roll under the number of Halloweenies in play, draw a card."

That ability really keeps the treats flowing... and the Halloweenies have plenty of new tricks for you to strategize with as well.

So break out the candy corn early while it is still unnervingly fresh, download the latest Squirmish update, and give old hollow-head a try! His fearsome friends will be joining the game soon... check out their scary silhouettes below...
