Squirmish Patch 0.4.07 (Early Access)
For Gamepad and Steam Deck Players
[p]Stick control presses are now mapped to a convenient behavior which moves the active selection highlight to a useful and visually obvious location. What specifically happens depends on context, but is identical for both sticks.[/p][p]When in the middle of a match, pressing either stick will move the active selection highlight to a card in your hand.[/p][p]When at a navigation page featuring a large Battle button, pressing either stick will move the active selection highlight to the Battle button. From there you can directly start a new match by pressing the A button.[/p][p]This new behavior can be a useful shortcut, but it also functions as an easy way to reorient yourself within the game UI if you visually lose track of the active selection highlight.[/p][p][/p]
PvP Match Post-game Fix (Full game only)
[p]We recently discovered that if you were perusing the final tabletop state after a PvP game, all the cards would suddenly disappear from the tabletop when your opponent fully disconnected. Additionally, the scene was left if an odd state where you could no longer examine cards in your hand.[/p][p]Representation of the final tabletop state is now decoupled from the opponent's connection state, so you can study the final remains of you game as long as you need to.[/p][p][/p]
Housekeeping and General Maintenance
[p]This update also includes a number of internal changes. Notably, we've updated all of our major software dependencies to match latest versions.[/p][p][/p]

How to report bugs and give feedback
[p]Please use one of these places to report bugs or send feedback:[/p][p]When possible, we recommend joining the Squirmish Discord server and reporting there. New Squirmish DLC: Biscuit Sisters vs. Gravy Brothers 24-Card Booster Set!

[p]The second DLC Booster Set for Squirmish has just been released! [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]The Biscuit Sisters Vs. The Gravy Brothers 24-Card Booster Set[/p][p][/p][p]The Biscuit Sisters and the Gravy Brothers are a feudin' and a fightin’, and you'd be wise not to get in the way of their sibling scuffles! They are the two new groups introduced in this booster set for Squirmish: The Videogame of Brawling Beasties (3.0 edition)! [/p][p][/p][p] [/p][p][/p][p]Pictured above: Betty, the eldest of the Biscuit Sisters. First seen in paper form in a booster set for Squirmish: The Card Game (3.0 edition), these rival groups have gone digital and are now part of this new DLC for Squirmish: The Videogame.[/p][p][/p][p]When you activate their group abilities, these groups' powerful punches are greatly increased... especially when battling each other.[/p][p][/p][p]They didn’t come alone, either... a bunch of other rascals and ruffians are here too, including Cheekpockets, Opossrat and the nefarious Giggler... for a total of 24 new cards![/p][p][/p][p] [/p][p][/p][p]Pictured above: Tacky O'Sweatersaurus, one of the toughest cards in any deck (in spite of his questionable fashion sense), is included in this booster set.[/p][p][/p][p]Besides the new cards, you'll also unlock the Food Fights! section, which will introduce you to some weird but delicious new opponents! Meet Beans and Cornbread! [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Pictured above: The entryway to the FOOD FIGHTS! section, introducing you to Beans and Cornbread. [/p][p][/p][p]Maybe you've heard their legend in the famous Louis Jordan song? Beans and Cornbread just can't seem to get along! However, this discomfort food will do a great job helping you digest how to best use your new cards. As with the other opponents, once you beat them enough times consecutively, you can use them as your avatar when playing solo or multiplayer. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Pictured above: Ugly never looked so tasty! [/p][p][/p][p]Once you beat them both, you may even find they have more in common than they think![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Pictured above: Betty and Dolly Biscuit may be surrounded in the above image... but their opponents probably have more to worry about than they do.[/p][p][/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p]

New Halloween-Themed Card
[p]Being October, this update adds a free brand new Halloween-themed card to the game, where it joins Punkin Haid and the other six members of the Halloweenies group.[/p][p]This card does not require any DLC and is available in the FULL version of Squirmish as well as the DEMO.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]

Changes to Placement-Triggered Abilities
[p]In Squirmish, a placement event occurs when a card first enters the arena, whether it's placed in an unoccupied location or replacing another card in the arena.[/p][p]Card placement can occur:[/p]
 • [p]at the beginning of the game when starters are placed[/p]
 • [p]during the Place a Card or Move Step[/p]
 • [p]as a card ability action (see Cherry On Top)[/p]
 • [p]when resolving a Consolation Prize[/p]
[p]In the core set, the only placement-triggered ability is the notorious Fermented Nightshade, the special ability of Hobblebob.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]However, the new Biscuits vs. Gravy DLC introduces three more cards with placement-triggered abilities: Giggler, Woggle, and Poggle.[/p][p] [/p][p][/p]
Starter placement will now trigger placement-triggered abilities.
[p]Since the release of Squirmish: The Videogame, we have not been treating starter placement as a placement-triggering event. Hobblebob was the only card affected by this, and in the beginning, we also didn't allow Fermented Nightshade to target Hobblebob. It felt like triggering Fermented Nightshade at starter placement just produced game play that was not fun. Placing Hobblebob as a starter was low risk and often just eliminated the opponent's starter, with no Consolation Prize awarded.[/p][p]Sometime over the last year, we changed the interpretation of Fermented Nightshade to include Hobblebob as a target for removal. This makes placing Hobblebob as a starter a bit more risky, since if it becomes the first card placed, it will be the only valid target for Fermented Nightshade and must remove itself.[/p][p]With that, and the addition of new cards with placement-triggered abilities, (Giggler, Woggle, and Poggle), we decided to experiment with making starter placement a placement-triggering event. The resulting interactions, although rare, are very interesting, so we decided to enable it in this update.[/p][p][/p]
Consolation Prize placement no longer triggers placement-triggered abilities
[p]While experimenting with starter placement triggers, we discovered that some Consolation Prize card placements were not reliably triggering in PvP games and that the fix for this was technically complex, especially with the addition of the new cards.[/p][p]Additionally, since Consolation Prizes are awarded during play stoppage by the Referee flavor-wise, it doesn't seem unreasonable for some game rules to be suspended for Consolation Prize resolution.
So, to keep placement trigger handling consistent across all play variations, Consolation Prizes no longer trigger placement-triggered abilities. You can still place any of these cards as a consolation prize, but their placement won't trigger their placement-triggered abilities or, if Giggler is in play, it's Old Switcheroo ability won't trigger either.[/p][p][/p]

How to report bugs and give feedback
[p]Please use one of these places to report bugs or send feedback:[/p][p]When possible, we recommend joining the Squirmish Discord server and reporting there. Unity Security Update

[p]Unity recently reported a serious security vulnerability in many versions of their engine going back to 2017. Read more about it here: https://unity.com/security/sept-2025-01/remediation

Based on Unity recommendations, we have patched the UnityPlayer.dll file for:[/p]
 • [p]SQUIRMISH: The Videogame of Brawling Beasties[/p]
 • [p]SQUIRMISH: The Videogame of Brawling Beasties DEMO[/p]
[p]Aside from eliminating the security issue, we expect this update to have no effect on end-user experience, but if you encounter any unexpected issues, please let us know.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
