Slaves

Builders! 👋
It’s time for our monthly devlog and as promised, this time we’ll introduce you to a social group which is very numerous and important for the prosperity of your city- Slaves! ⛓️

In the ancient Mayan empire the wheel wasn’t used for the creation of some sort of transportation device. Therefore, most of the goods were being moved by people 🚶often equipped with baskets. And that’s where slaves step in- a numerous work force to relieve the citizens from the physical labor. 💪 Use them wisely to propel your economy!
Their function in society wasn’t just physical work. As we’ve previously mentioned, the Mayan Gods ⚡ were demanding, capricious and vengeful 😡 beings who didn’t bat an eye while punishing their followers as soon as they felt like they weren't given as many prayers and sacrifices as they deserved.
That’s why ancient Mayan were often having festivals full of music, incense, fire and of course- blood. But where to take that blood from? 🤔 Why would they slay their own valued citizens when slaves just waited to take their place on the altar?

Offering them in their mystical, bloody rituals will please even the most demanding God. 👍

And you, as the rightful ruler, should learn from their traditions and follow their steps to ensure the wellbeing of your city and its inhabitants.
The life of a few sounds like a fair price in exchange for the protection from famine, plagues, elemental cataclysms, as well as a good fortune during wars, gathering crops and hunting! 😀

Keep in mind that even slaves have their needs that have to be taken care of. In order to use them up to the very last drop of their blood you have to create a proper environment for the unwilling inhabitants of your city, you should at least grant them a roof over their head 🏠 and something to eat and drink. 🌽 🥛

Seasons

Hello Builders! 👋
It’s been a while since you’ve heard of us but we’re back with another devlog and this time, we’ll talk about the weather! ⛈️

In our game, we’d like to give you an experience of what the life of the Mayans of that time looked like. Therefore, we cannot skip one of the most crucial factors- the weather. 🤩
Life of the Ancient Mayans society was dictated by two seasons: rainy season 🌧️ and dry season. ☀️ They both had their pros and cons and people were always doing their best to exploit those advantages.
Let’s start with the dry season.
🌞
During that time of the year, the fertile soil- one of the main sources of food for your people is deprived of the life giving rain. 💧 To protect your city from the draught you’ll be forced to look for alternative sources of water. One of such sources were cenote- natural wells. They were natural rock formations in which the water was getting collected. During the golden era of Mayan Empire, cenotes were not only used as a well but also believed to be gates to the realm of Gods! 🙏

It was also the time when the ground was solid. Therefore, it was the time of wars, trading and politics between different cities. ⚔️

As for the rainy season… 🤔 It was a time when most of the conflicts, trades and escapades were halted.

And the reason for that? The overwhelming, omnipresent and never ending rain covering every square cm of the land veiling the earth in the shadows. ⛈️
The overflowing water was turning ground into mud pools making moving dangerous and nigh impossible. To make sure your progress won’t be stopped we suggest investing in stone roads. 🛣️
This season is also the perfect time to collect water necessary to survive the dry season. With the use of tanks carved in the stone by people called chultuns you’ll have a possibility to do so! 👍
Those inconspicuously looking structures built on the circular plan allow to collect incredible amounts of water inside them. They are your best shot to make sure your people won’t suffer from thirst!

That brings us to the end of this devlog. We’d like to remind you about the Playtests currently taking place! 📝 To take part in them, all you have to do is visit the main page of the game, find the Playtest banner and press the green button “Request Access”!
