INSPIRE - March 2023 Playtest

Hi everyone!

Thrilled to announce a new playtest for you all to play!

I've been working hard at level designing the whole world of INSPIRE and the creatures that inhabit (or invade) it.

Next to that, I've also created a weapon customization system that allows you to customize the behavior of the weapons you as a player collect.

I need some help testing the balancing and the overall feel of the creatures, abilities, and weapons so I created a testing level where you have access to all the abilities and weapons, and customization that is currently in the game.

There is an enemy spawner in place that randomly spawns enemies for you to defeat. There's also a nice little kill counter on the top left corner so you can try to kill most amount of your enemies!

Make sure to join in the conversation on the DISCORD so you can give me all your valuable feedback.

I've tested the playtest on my Steam Deck and it's a lot of fun there too! I've uploaded a steam controller config for the game but you'd probably want to customize it for yourself, since the steam input keys aren't displayed yet, but it works!

For Steam Deck testers, please refer to this controller layout for the controls: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nuxp3y6678parmu/INSPIRE%20-%20Steam%20Deck%20Controls.jpg?dl=0

Make sure to use the 'INSPIRE Steam Deck Official' layout.

Enjoy the playtest and I hope you have an awesome weekend!

INSPIRE - Devlog 1

Hey all!

Next to the monthly news report I've started a monthly Devlog too!

This first Devlog is about the past 2.5 years and how the development has gone so far.

At the end of the Devlog there's room for a Q&A, so make sure to drop your questions regarding the game in the comments of the video!

INSPIRE - February Report

Hi Everyone!

It's been another awesome month in the development of INSPIRE.
Some major improvements and cool additions have been added to the game. Let's start with the 1 I like the most.

1- Weapon Modding
Weapon Modding is now fully working and the player can now switch out the Transformer(which transforms the projectile behavior) and the Modifier(which changes the stats of the Weapon).

The following projectiles are now in place:
Regular, Homing, Freeze, Burn, Ricochet, Explosion, and Pierce. Always open to new suggestions so keep them coming!

I've also done a neat little update to the shooting. Now, using the right mouse button, the player can look ahead a few meters which is helpful when using weapons with a slow fire rate like a sniper rifle. Furthermore, there's now a UI element above the player showing the reload time remaining.

2- UI
Talking about UI, I've done a major revamp on all UI in-game, it now has a bit more color and has also a cleaner look.

3- Player Home
Next to the updated UI, I've also reworked quite a bit of the player's home. It's your home after all! There's now a kitchen, a place to work out, and a few interactable objects like a radio, fridge, and toaster.

4- Story & Questing
Another thing that has seen a big rework is the starting experience, The story is now also told through fully voiced news broadcasts, that play in your home and the city of Realle. Next to story updates, I've also streamlined the quest flow of the first starting quests.

I can't wait to share a new playtest with you all, the aim is to get one out next month so you can test out all the new additions to the game!

But that's all for this month!

INSPIRE - January Report

Happy new year everyone!

It's been another awesome month in terms of progress on INSPIRE.
I've been able to iron out a whole lot of performance issues which makes the game run much smoother.

Also, I've been working on some exciting new features for the game:

1 - Building System

There's now a building system in place that lets you build your own defenses and utilities. These buildings are super handy when you're in a new zone or gathering treasures or resources.

Each zone has a certain building limit but you can easily reposition, destroy and dismantle all buildings.
I can't wait to see what creative solutions you come up with in the battle against the Sentians!

2- Random Levels.

All levels are now randomly populated, which means enemies are spawned randomly depending on certain factors like season, day/night, and randomness. This also goes for the local wildlife and loot. Which makes each time you enter a certain zone feel like a unique experience. And it also got me rid of having to use spawn timers for everything, which wasn't fun and a hassle to keep track of. Each level gets populated at the start of the level but during your playtime in a zone, you can trigger events that spawn all kinds of cool new things!

3- Weapon Modding.

Another exciting feature is the addition of weapon modding, which allows the player to modify their acquired weapons and change the way they behave. Want a shotgun that shoots missiles, you can! Want a sniper rifle that shoots mines? You can! (this last one I've only just thought of so will have to code first).
I will show more on this once I got the UI nice and shiny for this. You'll be able to do this straight from the inventory.

These are the main new features that I've been working on in the past month. Next to that I'm also reworking the UI and finalizing all the levels. But I wouldn't want to spoil everything right now. Hope you have an awesome week and I'll catch up with you next month!
