In case you don't know, Ace is the character you play as in ROBOBEAT. He's the cyborg assassin who's been tasked with killing the chaotic robot showman Frazzer. Accompanied by his handy cassette player, he employs a variety of weird weapons (including a Ping Pong bat) and slays to the beat of his own drum.

We’ve collaborated with the incredible team at Makeship to set up a petition to have Ace plushies made.

How does the petition work and how can you get involved?

Makeship is a company that makes awesome plushies based on characters from independent creators, game developers, and creatives from all walks of life! They operate on a community funding model, which helps smaller creators and indie developers to make high quality plushies without taking huge risks.

The first step of the process for us is a petition, where we need ROBOBEAT players (and anyone else who wants an Ace plushie for whatever reason, we won’t judge) to pledge $2 towards the petition. If we can get 200 people to pledge $2 in 10 days, then our petition will be successful and we’ll move on to make the sample plushie for our Makeship campaign!

Please note that, if the petition is not successful, Makeship will refund you the $2 within 5-7 business days. If the petition is successful, however, then your $2 will go towards your Ace plushie and the rest of the cost will be taken automatically once the plushies are ready.

ROBOBEAT is a roguelite rhythm shooter where you take on the role of robo-gunslinger Ace as he hunts down the chaotic showman Frazzer. Wall run, slide, and bunny hop your way through Frazzer’s ever-shifting lair, and shoot in sync to the music to maximize your damage. Uncover new cassettes to use as you play, or march to the beat of your own drum by uploading your tracks using the custom music feature and playing with the songs you love!

If you’re lucky enough, you may even be able to find one of the 3 secret rooms hidden within the game. In these themed rooms, you’ll find cassettes from the soundtracks of BPM: Bullets Per Minute, ULTRAKILL, and DUSK.

In ROBOBEAT, you’ll be taking on the role of Ace - a famous bounty hunter in hot pursuit of the eccentric robot-showman Frazzer. To find your way through his twisted techno-playground, you’ll have to master the art of shooting, wall-running, sliding, and bunny hopping!

As if that wasn’t difficult enough, you’ll need to hone your musical ear and shoot in sync with the beat of your chosen song to maximise your damage. Change between songs on the fly depending on your mood, unlock a variety of wild and wacky weapons, and encounter intense boss fights as you rush to take Frazzer down.

Players on console will have access to the 38 unlockable songs from the original soundtrack and the 3 extra special cassettes containing songs from the BPM: Bullets Per Minute, DUSK, and ULTRAKILL soundtracks.

I was excited to try Robobeat because I really love the idea of games implementing rhythm elements in unique and fun ways. As much as I’ve always enjoyed Guitar Hero, it wasn’t until I got really into Crypt of the Necrodancer: Cadence of Hyrule that I realized how interesting this kind of gameplay could be. 

And while I never got around to playing BPM: Bullets Per Minute or Metal Hellsinger I have always wanted to experience a game that’s as fast-paced as DOOM 2016 but has the added flair of fighting to the beat. Robobeat not only delivers on that front but gives players a lot of added freedom to really make their games unique.

There isn’t a lot of story on offer straight away in Robobeat, which makes sense, given the game’s roguelike nature.
