May Update - Next Fest Inclusion

Hi everyone!

We are back once again with a small announcement and some footage of updated features that have been added to the game! After winding down from a hectic March, we dove right into the game again to get a few things tidied up and two much-requested features added to the current beta version.

First things first… One Lonely Outpost will be participating in the Steam Next Fest which will be running from June 19th to the 26th! We are super excited to have this opportunity to share our game with you all. ♥

Content Creators: if you would like early access to our Next Fest Demo, please drop your information in this Twitter thread!

Everything is really starting to come together and this month we made sure to get the two most requested features by the backers added to the game. These features were definitely needed and we are thankful to our amazing backers supporting us and giving us solid feedback along the way.
Being in a menu now pauses the game.
This was a huge need as we all know that sometimes players need to step away for a few minutes or take some time to read through the different menus as they learn the game. Previously, all of this would take in-game time to do and if you stepped away you would risk passing out. Now you can relax and simply take your time exploring the menus and be confident that if you need to grab a snack you won’t pass out!
And what all our beta players have been asking for…. stack splitting!!
Not being able to split stacks after they were combined quickly became an issue as our backers built larger farms, forcing them to sell large quantities of crops even if they only needed a few to meet the requirement. Now players can split a stack in half and quickly gather split stacks back together!

Thank you all again for your continued support and patience. We wouldn’t have made it this far without all of you.

March Update: PAX, beta testing and more!

Hi everyone!
We're back again this month to show off some more of our progress with some current in-game footage! March was a busy month for us that included events, beta testing, and adventures!
Let’s hop right in.
We showcased an exclusive One Lonely Outpost demo at PAX East this year. This demo allowed players who are not part of Kickstarter Beta to play through the tutorial of our game. It was awesome being able to see everyone enjoy all the hard work we’ve been up to.

We are officially one month into the Beta with our Kickstarter backers and we couldn’t be happier with the excitement within the community. The Beta community has been hard at work alongside us this month, sharing valuable feedback and providing us with bug reports.

Thank you again to all our beta testers who have been active in our super secret beta discord channel!

In this month’s update, we wanted to show you a little more about fishing in One Lonely Outpost. We have put a lot of work into our fishing minigame since its original concept by introducing a more futuristic method of fishing: drones! We gave you a sneak peek in a previous AMA and we are excited to show you what it currently looks like in the game today.
Fishing using The Piranha Drone
The Piranha Drone is our beginner-friendly fishing drone. Designed for shallow waters, it is a simple, efficient design. Check it out in action:
Sneak Peak: Bug Collection
Like fishing, we are utilizing the use of drones for specimen collection. While you explore the planet keep an eye out for bugs to collect using your drone. Here’s a sneak peek of one of the bugs that you can collect - we’ll hopefully show you more soon! 😉
Adventure Time with Elisha
Last but not least, we introduced you to Jim-Bob’s daughter Elisha in our previous update.
While doing some exploring during our in-game testing we caught Elisha doing the same! You need to be quick to spot her, but it was fun seeing one of our NPCs out in the world.

This area is a crossroads, full of crystals and alien ruins… which is probably why we caught Elisha exploring there! Being the first to meet intelligent life is her goal, after all!
We can’t wait for you to explore the planet yourself!
Discord AMA
Due to the busy month of March with PAX East, and feedback from our Kickstarter beta testers, we didn’t end up having an AMA this month. We will be looking to resume them soon so be on the lookout for that! Join our discord to keep up-to-date on when we schedule our next AMA and interact with us!

Thank you all for your continued support and patience. We wouldn’t have made it this far without all of you.

February Updates!

Hi everyone!
We’ve made a lot of incredible progress this month and are very excited to show off all of it for yall! Let’s just jump right into everything.
Elisha Update
Over the past couple updates, we’ve been showing off some of our character portraits. This month we’d like to introduce Jim-Bobs 10 year old daughter, Elisha!

Elisha is a very smart and adventurous little girl. She’s always on the hunt for aliens and is determined to be the first to meet intelligent life. Besides her adventures, she’s Jim-Bob’s right hand girl when it comes to helping out with the various mechanical things around the colony.
Lighting update
As we showed off back in the December update, we’ve been updating some of our interior lighting. Here’s a look at some of our landers in the day/night!

Speaking of Elisha, here’s the update to her room inside Jim-Bob’s lander!

And now the rest of the lander!

Aaron’s lander!
Discord AMA
Due to working super hard on the beta, we didn’t end up having an AMA this month, but will be looking to resume them in March so be on the lookout for that event!

Thank you all for your continued support and patience. We wouldn’t have made it this far without all of you. We can’t wait to hear all of your feedback on the beta!

January Update

Hi everyone! Happy New Year!
Hopefully you’ve all kicked off the new year strong. We certainly have 😄We’ve got a lot to cover this month, so let’s just jump right into it!
Delay
Yes, you read that right. We are delaying again, but not by much! We are very excited to announce that we will for sure be launching One Lonely Outpost into Early Access in June of 2023!
We know you all have been waiting for a while but we’re nearly there. Five months will fly by and we’re excited about the progress we’ve been making over the past months that have led us to be able to make this final decision for June. We’re hopeful that the wait will be worth it and we’re definitely looking forward to hearing everyone’s feedback throughout Early Access.

Now who’s ready to see some of the progress we’ve made over the past month:
Eve Update
Eve is our xenoarcheologist that has joined the colony to learn about the beings that may have come before. You may be wondering, “but she’s blue? Isn’t she an alien?” Well she is of Itrii heritage, but she is in fact, just like you and I, a human, just a blue one. 😄
Much like Aaron and Jimbob, the rest of our cast is getting a little bit of a refresh to their character art. This is still very much work in progress for the new HD version.

We’re not only going to be updating the face a little bit, but also fixing her base pose. She has a tendency to hide her face and having a default pose will allow people to better see what is important.
Duyi Update
Duyi has gotten the same art update treatment as our other NPCs. We had originally tried him out with the more realistic art style that we tried with Aaron, but upon hearing the communities feedback, we changed course and we went back to the old art like before and updated from there.

Duyi is our outpost metallurgist and will be there for all of your metal needs. As you can see from his outfit alone, he works in a pretty dangerous place and needs to wear protective equipment. For his pants and reinforced Tabi shoes, we took some inspiration from Japanese construction workers.
Sydney’s Lander
We’ve also been continuing on our journey of finishing up more NPC landers and updating the lighting a bit. This month, we have Sydney’s to show off! Her lander doesn’t have the fancy new lighting implemented just yet, but you can see how far her lander has come from before.
Discord AMA
Our monthly Discord AMA hasn’t happened just yet so you still have time to join the Discord if you haven’t already! This month’s AMA will be happening this Friday (Jan 27th) at 4pm ET / 1pm PT and we will be ready to answer all of the questions you may have about any of the above items or any other questions you may have about the game.
We’re looking forward to seeing what all yall have in store for us 😉

December Updates! 🎄

Happy Holidays everyone! 🎄
We hope you all are having a wonderful holiday season so far and finishing the year off right! Before the year ends, we have some updates to bring to you all based on the feedback we’ve been receiving, as well as to show off some things that we showcased in our monthly AMA that we held last week. If you missed our AMA, make sure you read to the end to see what all you missed and how you join our next one. Now let’s just jump straight into all of it!
Portraits
We have heard your feedback about the portraits! And we will continue hearing your feedback and making adjustments as necessary. Firstly, let’s take a look at the progression of the beloved Aaron.

As you can see, his original portraits were a bit more of the rugged pixel art style that we turned a bit more HD for the original E3 trailer. We then progressed to the concept art we showed off to yall a couple of months ago. We took in all of the feedback that you all gave us and made some adjustments to the HD version and added in some new facial expressions.

Here you can see how the original portrait looks in game versus the new one

Before

After

We also did this sort of process with our community mechanical engineer (and Santa lookalike 👀), Jimbob.

Before

After

Overall, the previous portraits for these characters just weren't exactly doing the job that we needed them to, so they needed a bit of upgrading so we would be able to include more facial expressions as well as general readability. The designs you see above are still in progress and not final designs, so we will definitely still be taking in criticism.
Interior Design
We’ve been working on updating the interiors of the landers! Not quite like our portrait upgrades, so don’t fret! We would still love to hear yalls thoughts though!

We’ve updated the lighting a bit to give it a more cozy feeling inside, as well as adding in some various objects around the space to give a more lived in feel.

In other interior design updates, while we haven’t updated the lighting in Linny's cabin just yet, we have finished up the interior.
Discord AMA
As per our monthly tradition, we did an AMA with our game director, Emmanuel Floret, in our community Discord. This month, we had the special treat of having our art director, Johan Balan, joining us as well. While we had a smaller turn out due to the holidays, we were still able to show off a lot of awesome news stuff for everyone, including a lot of the above work and talking through any questions or thoughts that they had.

Q: While fishing, can you catch trash?
A: No, no trash, but you will be able to catch other things.

Q: Is there going to be a vendor to sell mine items?
A: You have a merchant dedicated to prospecting to buy upgrades. The vendor also supplies the suit which you need to survive.

Q: Since there’s a drone for fishing, will there be a drone to help me care for the animals?
A: Awesome suggestions as we did not think about that. The barn is basically what will take care of animals. For maintenance and petting, we will think about it. Since we already will have drones for crops, it is not that far of a bridge.

Q: Can the drones be named?
A: We have not planned for that at the moment. As we grow the universe and worldbuilding, we plan to slowly introduce different world-based brandings/logos so we aren’t sure if we will be able to rename drones. #lorebuilding

We don’t have a date just yet for our next monthly AMA, but definitely join our Discord to keep in the know for when we do schedule it!
Thank you all for your continued support and patience as we continue working towards EA next year.
