Message from the Mayor of Survival Quiz CITY! [for February&March, 2022]

Hello, this is the Survival Quiz CITY Development Team.

As just announced, the full version of Survival Quiz CITY will be released on March 4th, 2022.
Since the launch of the Steam Playtest last April, we have been able to improve the game thanks to the many suggestions from the community. Thank you all very much!

Before the game’s release, we will be holding our final playtest, aptly named "Steam Playtest: Final," from Friday night, February 11th to Sunday, February 13th, 2022.
The purpose of this Playtest is as follows:
  • Verify the stability of the build of the production version
  • Verify the stability of the game server
The build available in this playtest is almost the same as the full version, and we hope that many of you will be able to join us in this last round of tuning and stress testing before SQC goes live in March.

Let’s start by explaining the updated elements from our last playtest. There are lots of exciting changes!

Adjusting Game Balance
The game balance between the losers and the winners is something we have been thinking a lot about and constantly adjusting since the first playtest. We have made significant changes to various parts of the game with this update based on the following policy:
  • Winners continue to have an advantage over losers
  • Find ways to raise the losing team’s motivation

We have made a lot of adjustments since the October Playtest, including weapon power, the amount of ammo per weapon, item prices and effects, coin placement, amount of coins earned, course design, and so on. It would be too much to write in detail, so I will only explain the motivational measures below.

Stage Difficulty
Since the difficulty level varies from stage to stage, there were some cases in the last Playtest where new players faced the challenge of a difficult stage. Therefore, we have changed how stages are selected in Quick Matches and Custom Matches.
  • In Quick Matches, the difficulty of the stage selected will change depending on the average city rank of the players gathered. The higher the average City Rank of the players, the higher the chance that more difficult stages will be selected.
  • In a custom match, the host player can choose the difficulty of the stages. Easy, Normal, Hard, and Galaxy-level difficulties can be selected. If the difficulty is set to Random, the stages are chosen randomly from all stages.
Improvements to the Custom Match function
In response to requests from the last Playtest, we have added two new features. The Host now has the option to break up the room, and the option to stop the game and bring everyone back to the lobby.

Improved Tutorial
We received some comments that the tutorial was difficult to understand, so we have redesigned the tutorial from scratch. We hope it is easier to understand than the previous tutorial.
What's New?

Here are some of the new elements added to this Playtest:

Rewards, Emote Customization
We've implemented a system where you can get emoticons and gestures as rewards for achieving certain conditions in the game. The icons and motions you earn can be equipped in the GYARR Customization option in the main menu. The requirements for earning rewards can be found under Rewards in the main menu.
New Weapons, New Items
Weapons Exclusive to the Winning Team
  • Ribbit Rifle
Players hit by this attack will experience reduced movement speed and jumping ability. Like other weapons, it can be used to earn money, but it does not have the effect of blowing up.
  • Heavy Machine Gun
A machine gun that has a slower rate of fire than a regular machine gun but has a higher attack power per shot; you can blow up quite a few on the losing team with just one shot so that you can go for the Blast Bonus.

Weapons and Items for Everyone
  • Billow Bomb
A projectile weapon that can be purchased during shopping time. Smoke will be emitted from the point of impact, making it difficult to see your surroundings.

  • Banana
A projectile weapon that can be purchased during shopping time. If you step on a banana, you will be stunned for a certain amount of time.
  • Confetti
Scatter confetti around and liven up the place! Confetti doesn’t confer any in-game bonuses; it’s just so pretty!
  • Inspiration Cards
In response to a suggestion on the Steam forums, we have implemented an item that can reduce the number of quiz choices. The Inspiration Card available in the High-Grade Shop will reduce the number of choices to three. The Super Inspiration Card available in the Legendary Shop will reduce the number of choices to two. Since these are pretty powerful items, they are also more expensive.
  • Insurance
In response to a suggestion on the Steam forums, we have implemented an item that reduces the number of coins lost when knocked off the stage or killed. There are three types of insurance: Commoner's Insurance, High-Quality Insurance, and Legendary Insurance. If you have Legendary Insurance, you won't lose any coins at all.
  • Reloading Items
This item increases the reload speed of your weapon when you win. There are three types of reloads: Commoner Reload, High-Class Reload, and Legendary Reload.”
  • Overflow Gear
Placed as talismans against evil at entrances and exits, this is a consumable item that allows you to recover a certain amount of stamina. These talismans are helpful when you need to recover stamina instantly. There are three types: Overflow Gear, Overflow Gear A, and Overflow Gear EX.
  • Crawling Items
This item increases the movement speed of your crawl. It allows you to crawl faster while withstanding the attacks of the winning team. There are three types: Commoner's Dust, High-Quality Dust, and Legendary Dust.
New Stage Gimmicks
There are also several more types of stage gimmicks since the last time. We hope you will check out Gimmick Tutorial - Chapters 1 & 2, as there may be some parts that you may not understand without completing the tutorials.
  • Breakaway Floors
After standing on some floors for a certain amount of time, they will now break and cause you to fall.
  • Breakable Walls & Floors
These are walls and floors that the winning team’s attacks can destroy.

  • Movable Platforms
This gimmick allows you to move the scaffolding to open up a path to move on. You can get bonus coins while holding onto the scaffolding.

  • Button-activated Floors and Walls
This stage gimmick activates particular walls or floors when you press certain buttons. You can also use moveable scaffolding on top of buttons to trigger them.

  • Conveyor Belt
Standing on top of these moving walkways will cause you to move in the direction of the arrows on them.

  • Conecoo Fighter Jet
These jets will fly in at regular intervals. If you are hit by one, you’ll be knocked away.
New Actions
We have implemented a minor change in the way plates can interact with each other.
  • Player Hitbox Physics
If you dash and hit another player, the player you hit will be knocked back a little.
New Stage
We have added a stage that uses these newly implemented stage gimmicks. We have also added these new stage gimmicks to Chapters 2 & 3, adding new challenges to familiar layouts.
SQC Quiz-Life
• Associative quiz
A new "Associative Quiz" has been added. Players guess the answer from four associative words displayed on the screen. As in the "Quick Push Quiz," the top quarter of players who can answer correctly the fastest will be the winners.
New features of the Spectator Car
• First-person view mode
If you are eliminated in the Survival Rules games, you’ll switch to the "spectator car mode" and fly GYAAR around the arena. We've prepared a mode that allows you to change your perspective to first-person while in spectator car mode. In custom matches, you can also participate as a spectator car from the beginning and watch the match from a bird's eye view. We hope you will be able to use this feature in custom matches and events with original quizzes.

  • Confetti
You could only scatter coins while riding the spectator car until now, but now you can also scatter "confetti.” It doesn't have any particular game-like effect, but it's pretty and sparkly, so give it a try.
Original quiz functions
We've heard from the community that they want to create their own quizzes. Since the beginning, we’ve wanted to do so, and we’re happy to announce the "Custom Quiz Creation & Sharing“ features to this latest version.

The "Custom Quiz” is a feature that allows users to create quizzes and submit them to the game. In addition to creating quizzes, we have also implemented a feature that will enable players to share quizzes. Players can now share their unique quizzes with other players or play quizzes created by others.

This feature is only available for custom matches, but please feel free to share your quizzes with other players!

That's it for this update! The entire development team is very grateful for your continued support! If you enjoy this playtest, please consider supporting us by getting Survival Quiz CITY when it launches in March! And spread the words to your friends!

Until then, see you in Survival Quiz CITY!
