Steam Next Fest Demo Feedback & Changes!

Hello all!

Hope you’re doing well! We want to thank everyone for all their feedback and support throughout the demo period and beyond. We’re thrilled and absolutely blown away to say that we had a total of over a quarter of a million downloads of the Lawn Mowing Simulator Demo across both Steam and Xbox, this was alongside over 3.5 million views across YouTube and Twitch, and countless other social media posts that were gaining traction over the demo week. We can’t thank everyone enough for being a part of this ride, and we truly hope you’ll stick with us through to launch and beyond, also join our Discord if you haven’t already!

Below is the list of the most reported bugs and issues that occurred during the demo, listed in priority order – with some offering some more information about the intended use/fix - this priority order dictates somewhat the order in which things will be fixed/changed. So, with some of the below stating specifics around the launch date, you might be wondering “When is the launch day?!” Well, you’ll just have to wait until next week when will be announcing when our launch date is!

High Priority
  • Mouse not locked to screen
  • Mouse not disabled when using controller
  • Mouse pointer visible during gameplay when using M&K
  • No Motion Blur control
We apologise for this issue affecting some of you very negatively during the demo period – this issue is also exacerbated by lower framerate/performance, but we’re aiming to add a toggle for this.
  • Changing uniform/hat colour bug - does not let you pick a colour.
  • Non-US keyboard mapping error
  • Imperial/Metric conversion Error

Medium Priority
  • Ultra-Wide Support/Multi-Monitor Support not working as intended.
  • Expanded graphics options
  • Fonts too small for on-screen prompts (4K TVs?)
  • Imperial/Metric conversion should ideally use decimals rather than fractions

Low Priority
  • S/D buttons too sensitive for turning
We’ve been researching many similar Simulator games throughout development and seeing how they also handle keyboard steering and we’re seeing results that aren’t too dissimilar from where our title currently sits – obviously the best way to play the game in our opinion is with a controller or wheel (when it is added) and so we imagine the number of people playing with a keyboard would likely be quite low in the grand scheme of things. We will continue to investigate this issue as we progress through to launch and beyond.
  • Longer Name field for Company Name
We had several people reach out about this issue and while this does seem like a ‘simple’ issue, there’s some real ramifications for extending this field in terms of text-bleed and overages that can occur when making this field longer.

Already fixed
  • Disappearing Mower Glitch - Mower disappears from trailer completely after loading in/navigating the location.
As you may have seen, this finicky physics bug was causing havoc all over our fictional town! Please enjoy this tweet from @NeatWolf complete with horrific video as he squashed this bug:
    https://twitter.com/NeatWolf/status/1408105626937565192
  • Missing tutorial for lowering deck
Many of you may have experienced this as ‘The Knight OFS1 won’t cut the grass!’ or similar. Rest assured this was the tutorial just not doing due diligence informing you about lowering the deck!
  • Camera/Mouse Acceleration too sensitive
  • Default cut height key bindings need swapping
While this issue was observed by some, we are planning to add full key remapping, so that users can change any of their keys around as they please.
  • Invert Y axis does not work for Item Collection mode

Feedback/Further Additions:
  • Steering Wheel Support – Planned for release in Launch Day patch or ASAP after.
We’re still very much in the ‘we want to do this for launch and are trying our hardest to make that happen!’ but we can’t say for sure right now the exact date this will occur, we'll let you know as soon as we know!
  • Further Additions to be confirmed for the future post-launch:
    Multiplayer additions
    Weed whackers/Strimmers
    Walk-behind mowers
    More mowers
    Mid-contract saving

Xbox Insider Performance & Feedback + Steam Next Fest PC Demo Announcement!

Hello all!

First of all, allow me to thank you all for joining us here at Steam and on our Discord: discord.gg/lawnmowingsim , from our announcement at the end of March. It’s been fantastic conversing with all of you, answering your questions and feeling your excitement regarding the product. While we don’t have a release date yet, we want to assure everyone that we all have an exciting few months ahead of us, and we hope you’ll continue with us on the journey!

It’s been around a month since the Xbox Insider Programme ended, and to all those who filled in the surveys, communicated and told others about the game, gave the Xbox Insider Programme a go, thank you so very much. We found the Xbox Insider Programme, our first one ever, extremely valuable! Not only did it form the foundation of our announcement, but it also gave everyone a taste of what is to come when we launch this Summer. But we’re not just here to thank you, we also have a few things to share with you today…

Xbox Insider Results, Game Changes and More

We’re extremely happy with the results of the Insider Programme - as you know we’ve been enjoying your questions in the #Ask-The-Devs Discord channel, as well as asking you more about specifics in various other parts of the Discord. The Discord, in combination with the huge amount of data we received from Xbox containing valuable game feedback has fed into our plans going into launch and updates post-release. More details on that soon!

As well as raising some bugs that we have since fixed, the Xbox Insider allowed us to gauge the demand for many of the features we have already started working on, and have reprioritised our work to factor in and meet that demand - one such example being the rebalancing of the career economy allowing players for more gameplay paths earlier on in your experience. Also, we are making many Quality of Life improvements - such as improving tutorialisation, camera sensitivity options, axis inversion and text legibility, and this is all based on the Insider Programme feedback.

The Xbox Insider Programme has proved invaluable as we reach the end of development on Lawn Mowing Simulator. We feel that now, more than ever, we know our audience way more as a result of the programme, and we can prioritise updates and improvements that you all want to see moving forward.

But What’s Next?

One of the big requests coming out of the Discord was for PC users to get in early on the action too. To that end, we’re really excited and happy to let you know that there’ll be a Steam demo of Lawn Mowing Simulator coming out on 16th June and running as part of the Steam Next Festival until 22nd June.

Like last time, we will set up bespoke areas on Discord and a Google Form for everyone who wants to take part in the PC demo, and we would love any and all feedback!

Over the coming weeks we will be dropping some bespoke Manufacturer content trailers that showcase some of the Lawn Mowers within our game, and keep an eye out as we look to engage a wide range of YouTubers and Twitch Streamers across both platforms leading up to the Festivals. We’re really keen on getting the word out about Lawn Mowing Simulator and the community we have building here! If you’re a YouTuber or Twitch Streamer who would love to try our the game, please let us know at: [email protected] and pass us your details such as channel name, confirmation of email address on channel and so on.

Finally, if you haven’t already - please give us a wishlist and a follow on Steam as that helps us out on the algorithm a lot!
