Map Editor BETA 5

Hey folks!

The map editor branch received an update, fixing a number of problems reported by people. Previous beta versions 2, 3, and 4 were rapid updates released shortly after people reported issues on the game's official Discord server.

BETA 5:
- fixed placing an NPC via the NPC menu not calling :makeActive and causing a crash when removing the NPC
- fixed opening the NPC adjustment menu re-instantiating the starting weapon each time
- fixed returning to maped mode not removing the object throw controls
- fixed returning to maped mode while lockpicking not removing the cancel key prompt
- fixed a footstep-related crash that could occur when the player would get out of map bounds (this shouldn't happen at all though, will need to look into)
- selecting dead/unconscious/idle states will now adjust their animations in the map editor accordingly

As a reminder, you can opt into the 'mapeditor' branch at any time. It is currently in the BETA test phase, so expect issues. If you wanted to try your hand at making maps - now would be a good time, as you would not only make your own content, but also help with reporting bugs and giving feedback.

Map Editor now available on beta branch!

Hey everyone!

Please keep in mind: the map editor is NOT considered finished until the base game version moves on to 1.1.0. We are currently in BETA for the map editor.

The map editor is now available on the beta branch. I picked this approach due to a couple of reasons.

First: The map editor is not 100% bug-proof. With your testing we'll be able to catch various issues present in the map editor, fix them, and then roll the update out when it's ready.

Second: I need feedback on the editor. The map editor that you get is the same one that the game levels were made with. Being a single developer you can easily get tunnel vision for various game-related things. I believe I have a case of tunnel vision for the map editor in particular, since functionally it's fine for me, and I can't think of any features that it might need.

Third: The UI icons are placeholders. They will soon be replaced once the artist in charge of them gets back to me.

Fourth: Not all localizations are map editor-ready yet. Namely the russian and turkish localizations, but other translations also have missing map editor texts.

Fifth: Life has gotten very busy with things that aren't game development lately, so I haven't had as much time to work on the game as I'd like. Initially I wanted to have this update ready by now already, but a lot of things happened at once, and I was stretched too thin for time. Thankfully, this busy period is over, and I'm finally getting back into the groove again.

Sixth: Due to a lack of time, I have not yet made a custom several-level campaign to demonstrate various map editor related things. The upside, however, is that you can load any level present in the main campaign, to see how things work there. Be careful though, as saving an edited map with an identical filename will have the game load your level in the campaign. You can always delete it by going to C:/Users//AppData/Roaming/intravenous/maps/

When the editor is bug-free, and when I believe it's ready for release - that's when I'll roll out the release for everyone.
For now it can be accessed through the beta branch. Everyone can upload the levels they've made to the Workshop, and non-beta branch users can download and play maps that people have made already!

If you wish to opt into the map editor branch, simply right-click on Intravenous in your game list, click on "Properties...", switch over to the "BETAS" tab, and choose the "mapeditor" beta.
Once the game updates you should see 2 new buttons in the main menu: "Map editor" and "Modding".
If you're wondering how loading local mods/setting up a mod for submitting to workshop works, check this official guide by clicking here.

If you run into any issues, or have feedback regarding the map editor, be sure to post here!

So if you've been waiting for the map editor - now's a good chance to get familiar with it, provide some feedback, and help with finding bugs.

Game patch 1.0.34

Hey folks!

This patch addresses some resolution-related things brought up by the community. Keep in mind that, despite my efforts, due to the nature of a top-down 2D perspective there really isn't much I can do to make the game playable on ridiculously wide resolutions. Were the game a sidescroller, there would be no problems.

Version 1.0.34:
- fixed a crash that would occur when using some kind of ultrawide resolution (ie. 5760x1080)
- fixed resetting to last save after dying/doing it manually not clearing the ammo pickup UI elements
- tweaked the camera zoom scale to be more playable on ultrawide resolutions (it's still not optimal due to the top-down perspective, sorry!)
- tweaked the maximum camera zoom scale to be more playable on aspect ratios like 21:9

Game patch 1.0.33

Hey folks!

This patch addresses some things brought up by the community.

Version 1.0.33:
- added the ability to bind weapon selection to keyboard keys
- added a 'Continue' button to the main menu - clicking it will load the latest savefile
- removed the ability to bind keys to the "=" key, as the serialization library fails to deserialize the symbol and causes problems

Game patch 1.0.32

Hey folks!

This tiny patch fixes a serious issue reported just recently by a community member. It fixes the game failing to start when the user settings config file becomes corrupt for whatever reason.

Version 1.0.32:
- added error handling to cases where the game would try to load corrupt config files, and throw an error when it would fail
