Arcane Wilds is a fantasy tinged new Wild West RTS with an imminent demo

Combining the horse riding and city building of the American Frontier with scary fantasy creatures, new strategy game Arcane Wilds feels a bit like you tossed Age of Empires, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Fallout 76 into a box and gave it a good hard shake. Coming from indie studio Avancadia, this RTS puts a distinctive twist on proceedings by emphasizing your resource management and production lines, and you'll be able to try it out for free thanks to a Steam Next Fest demo ahead of the game's now-announced release date.

Update 0.4.28

We are very excited to bring you a completely reworked UI and improved procedural map generation with much better variety in today's update.

Full list of changes:
Complete UI overhaul:
- Entirety of the UI now has a new, improved style
- Better widescreen support

New mission map generation:
- Islands have now much more variety in shape
- Lakes can now also be generated in some of the biomes
- Improved resource and camp distribution

New, high-poly art models for:
- Baykok
- Wendigo
- Temple
- Villager

Other:
- Added color grading for camera
- Increased zoom limit on home island and for observers
- Zoom limit can now be adjusted

Bugfixes:
- Minimap markers in Equilibrium are now correctly displayed
- Hero can no longer be cancelled from a ship
- Tomb will automatically drop carried items that are not essence
- Enemies will no longer try to attack tombs

Update 0.4.27

Today's update introduces Colonel Smith as a controllable hero unit, improves the unlockable perks and comes with a new notification system.

Mission faction improvements:
- New hero: Colonel Smith himself is now a controllable hero unit
- Hero spawns a tomb on death and can be respawned
- Faction itself has been renamed to Hawk-Eye Regiment
- Removed Shock Cavalry unlock perk (Unlock happens automatically at level 8)
- Improved and replaced some of the unlockable perks

Improved notification system:
- Added clearly visible on-screen titles for important events such as objective changes
- Introduced in-world objects to better mark objectives or other notifications such as pings
- Incorporated more minimap icons for special highlights such as your hero

Balancing:
- Removed starting melee armor of Horseback Warrior

Bugfixes:
- Resolved an issue where multiple perks of the same row could be active at the same time

Update 0.4.26

Today a big update has arrived which revamps the mission reward system and the academy, while also bringing a variety of balance changes.

Full list of changes:

Mission reward rework:
- Earned loot during missions is now displayed in more detail on return
- Loot amount now mainly depends on achievements completed in a mission

Academy rework:
- Medals are now shown in game and are unlocked during a mission
- Narrator added to tutorial mission
- Old wise man is now available for help

Balancing:
- Snipe can be dodged by quickly moving out of range
- Lasso pulls target closer without the huntsman needing to move
- Units within a shroud receive less damage from ranged attacks
- Melee units get faction dependent bonuses on main upgrades
- Adjusted combat stats of multiple melee units, especially the warrior
- Various more small adjustments

Update 0.4.25

Update 0.4.25 focuses on quality of life improvements and polishing.

Full list of changes:

Mission:
- Improved resource tooltips and difficulty display on home island
- Military hospital now shows effect radius while placing and when selected
- Adjusted difficulty in horde missions
- Removed performance lag spikes during horde missions

General:
- Health bar animations are now displayed with a consistent duration
- Buttons on victory screen now appear slightly later
- Fixed spelling errors and wrong numbers in various tooltips

AI:
- AI recovers faster economically after unsuccessful rushes

Modding:
- Unit upgrades now work through mesh replacements instead of actor replacements
