What's New in our 3rd Closed Beta?

Hi everyone!

The Blindspot Games team has been working very hard since our last Closed Beta Playtest in June. Our 3rd Closed Beta starts tomorrow at 1PM EST from July 11th to 16th.

Since then, we’ve removed the tutorial and added “Bootcamp”, gave the PanO arena a makeover with new sponsor banners and a jumbotron, localized The Hexadome en Français, and more!

Here are the latest Patch Notes:

[h3]🎼 Gameplay mechanics [/h3]

BOOTCAMP
  • Removed the tutorial and added Bootcamp.
  • Includes lorified elements such as dialogues between champions and a new name for the players (you’re officially coaches)!
  • Added Sibylla as a companion to guide you through Bootcamp.
  • New way to engage players with progressive missions.

BONUS EFFECT:
  • Replaced Lunah’s bonus effect with “Apply Marked to the target” – it used to be “Deal 1 damage”.

ACTION POINT:
  • When receiving an action point, it’ll now only refill if there’s room in the action point bars. Previously, you could gain an action point even if you had 2 remaining. Now when no action point is used, the gain is not applicable.

DOWNED:
  • Replaced “Wounded” / “Knocked Out” with “Downed”.

SKILL RESULT PREVIEW:
  • Added a skill result preview on top of a Champion to indicate if an attack, actions, and disengage is the following: Guaranteed, Easy, Fair, Hard, Very Hard, Impossible.

[h3]đŸ–Œïž UI [/h3]
  • ROLLS: removed roll visuals to make the game simpler and less overwhelming for new players. All information is available in the event log and tool-tips.
  • EVENT LOG: added multiple details on stats and gameplay.
  • TOOL TIPS: added multiple fixes to improve visual placements with other boxes nearby.
  • BOOTCAMP: added visual elements in Bootcamp.
  • END TURN: added a new green End Turn button that’s interactable when you’re done with your action(s).

  • The Hexadome is now playable en Français! đŸ„
  • To switch languages, go in Settings -> Interface -> Language and switch it to French

[h3]🎹 Visuals [/h3]
ARENA:
  • Added sponsor banners.
  • Added jumbotron with new champion visuals.
  • Added highlight effect to all of the champions’ holograms.
  • Added details to blockers.
  • Added frames around sponsor screens.
  • 8-BALL: added his Ultimate animation and tweaked his animation for blocking.
  • LUNAH: tweaked combat idle, tweaked Shot animation, and the transitions between idle and combat idle.
  • LAXMEE: shortened her Debuffer animation and tweaked her idle pose.
  • HEXXER: tweaked timing on her animations for Contender, Vade Retro, and Gotcha.
  • MAXIMUS: added a new victory animation and tweaked his downed animation.
  • GATA: tweaked her reviving and Misdirection animations.
  • END TURN: added animation to end turn button.
  • END OF ROUND: Added new cutscene for each round.
  • END OF MATCH: added new cutscene for end of match with “Victory” or “Defeat” cutscenes.
  • SPONSOR: added new sponsor reward animation when they’re unlocked (WIP).
  • BOOTCAMP: added new background image and new champions’ artwork.
  • MAIN MENU: added new homepage background image.
  • CHAMPIONS’ PAGE: added new background image.
  • SEASON REWARDS: added new rewards for this season – new avatar and banner.

[h3]🧗 Progression[/h3]
  • Added a new visual for Account Level. When you progress per season, all of those ranks will add up to the number beside your Season's title.
  • Added a section in “Career” called “Locker”, where you can customize your avatar, name, and card background.

[h3]đŸŽ¶ Sound [/h3]
  • HEXXER: added SFX for her ultimate and when she’s down.
  • 8BALL: added SFX when he’s down.
  • LUNAH: added SFX for her ultimate and when she’s down.
  • LAXMEE: added SFX for her ultimate.
  • BOOTCAMP: added music to this new menu and added music when the champions’ are speaking.
  • ARENA: added new mix MUS and tweaked crowd SFX.

[h3]🐛 Fixes[/h3]
  • Fixed other minor bugs.

Dev Blog #9: It just gets Beta and Beta - June Playtest Results

Hello Hexadomers! 

For us over here at Blindspot, it’s been an incredible couple of weeks!  We launched and hosted our 2nd closed Beta and were greeted with a significantly larger number of players and sign-ups than ever before. We are extremely proud and excited to take steps towards improving the game based on the feedback we’ve received. 

Before we hop into the data and details, we wanted to extend a massive thank you from our team to you for helping make this playtest even more special than the last. This time around we made LOTS of changes, check them out in our latest patch notes. You’ll see we mixed things up with improvements on our Sponsors, Cheers, and Scoring system, and more. Suffice to say, we are thrilled to share the results of our 2nd Closed Beta.

[h3]Closed Beta #2 Playtest Results:[/h3]

Over the period of the playtest, we gathered all kinds of feedback across different platforms. Our data excavation tools were through an in-game comment box and rating system after matches, as well as a bug submission tool that sends information to our Jira directly. Additionally, we scraped socials, including our Steam Community Hub, Discord channels, and livestreams for further information. Lastly, we had a survey players could fill out available. 

Here’s what we learned: 


[h3]What players liked: [/h3]
  • The art style of the champions, their animations, and VFXs.
  • Music and SFX.
  • Challenges were a ton of fun!
  • The toughness of solo mode when playing against AI.
  • The passion and dedication of the devs shown in our Discord by answering questions, releasing patch notes, jumping on bugs, and listening to the community.
  • The new mechanic to gain more Cheers on the fly: Hype!


[h3]“This game is awesome. Would love to see more characters. I love the diversity in role picks, a tank controller, damage frontline, a damage support option. 11/10.” @True Circa [/h3]

When comparing this Closed Beta to our previous one in April, we noticed a bump of players, going from 1700 subscribers to 6575 subscribers in less than two months. Crazy to think how far we’ve come, and how the hard work continues to shine to new playtesters.

As always, we learnt many things along the way! With an abundance of new playtesters looking at The Hexadome, we received impactful feedback that can help us develop next steps in our upcoming playtests.

One memorable moment from our Discord community was when our most dedicated member asked to include hedgehogs in-game. What started off as playful banter on the Discord channel ended with our co-founder, Vincent, going rogue and adding in jumping hedgehogs to our main screen. Shout out to Nayder who contributed the most during our playtest, to whom we wanted to say thank you with happy hedgehogs. While working on other bug fixes and patch notes, this was one of the reasons that we received many positive comments that our dev team truly cares and listens to the community. Although, we can’t promise that these hedgehogs will be featured in our next playtest


[h3]“So far the dev team has been fantastic on listening to everyone and taking things into consideration. Never have I run across a more interactive development team which definitely makes me wanna support this game more.” @Mira Morgrist [/h3]

[h3]What could be improved:[/h3]
  • Improve the tutorial and better explain our Overwatch mechanic.
  • Improve the tutorial to be less overwhelming.
  • Improve the RNG. We received mixed feedback on this mechanic as some players felt like they were unlucky with their rolls, and this led to them quitting matches earlier.
  • Add pop-up tools and include full list of stats in the Champions’ Page. Players want to see their Champions’ range and stats outside of a match to better strategize for future games.
  • Clarify the sponsors mechanic, its progression, and the rewards. We received diverse feedback on the sponsors needing to be clearly to explain how and when they should receive their sponsor rewards. We’re still working on the sponsor system and will improve it for the next beta.
  • Create a glossary of keywords and keep the wording consistent throughout the game.
  • Define more mechanics: “!”, stars on Champions, Line of Sight, Golden Bullets, etc.
  • Add timers in certain areas. For example: when picking the team of champions.
  • Create an automated way to end a match when there’s no possibility of winning. For example: if a player is winning by 6-0 in the 3rd round, the losing player cannot comeback and is tempted to surrender. Even though we have a surrender button, it’ll diminish their progression points in the leaderboard.
  • Shorten the cutscenes and animations of our Champions.
  • Create a visual reminder that the unfinished skins aren’t bugs, but skins that we have yet to work on. Maybe a shirt for our Champions that says “Still in progress”.

We’re taking all of this feedback into consideration and planning out what’s feasible for our upcoming playtests.

Early Access Release Date

Hey everyone!

Don't be scared by the seemingly big block of text, all is well! In fact, it has been an incredible 2024 for the Blindspot team - we've announced our game, attended PAX and Demo Night, hosted an alpha playtest, soon followed by two awesome, closed beta playtests.

With the growth of our game's audience, and the amount of feedback we have been so lucky to receive, we've come to the conclusion that we will need to push the date of our Early Access release to early 2025. When we initially picked our date, we couldn't have known we'd get such thoughtful and thorough suggestions from all of you. Knowing what we know now and having looked over the survey results and Discord suggestions, we'd like to do right by all of you and take the appropriate time and steps to make our game as kick-ass as possible.

We hope you'll stay tuned to what our team will bring next, as its sure to include more playtests, where your thoughts and feedback will be a necessity.
