Exiled Stalker Starting Class Adjustment:
The Exiled Stalker has been adjusted to provide players with a ‘Light’ playstyle option when selecting their starting class. While some players prefer a heavier, more powerful combat style (catered for with the Udirangr Warwolf, Hallowed Knight, and others), we realised that players preferring a more nimble approach to combat had more limited options. To that effect, the Exiled Stalker is now faster and more agile, better representing the original vision for the character.

Parry Feedback Sound Effect:
Based on community feedback, we've updated the parry sound effects to make them more satisfying and impactful, offering clearer audio cues when successfully parrying an enemy’s attack.

Vigor Pickup Adjustment:
Another popular community request, Vigor collection upon defeating enemies is now automatic, meaning you no longer need to manually collect it with the lamp. We noticed many players were either forfeiting hard-earned vigor, by simply forgetting to collect it, or felt the process disrupted the gameplay flow. We hope this now helps to streamline the game experience, allowing you to instead put more energy and focus into the battles ahead.

Byron’s Quest Update:
We’ve made adjustments to Byron’s optional questline, providing players with additional opportunities to encounter Winterberry, to help prevent scenarios where players could unknowingly fail to complete it.

Unbridled Focus Pendant Fix:
The Unbridled Focus pendant, which reduces the cost of Channeling and Aura abilities, now functions as intended. Thanks to fellow lampbearer, Syren Kindra, for bringing this bug to our attention!

The Hushed Saint Adjustment:
The Hushed Saint boss battle has been adjusted in accordance to player feedback, to provide a more dynamic and satisfying melee combat encounter, retaining the same degree of challenge but with less emphasis on mounted combat.

Poison Buildup Bug Fix:
Small bug fix ensuring poison buildup effect now works as intended.

60 Tips, 60% Off - Your Beginner’s Guide to LOTF (Part 2/2)

Greetings Lampbearers,

Lords of the Fallen is now 60% off for a limited time, offering the perfect opportunity to dive into the realms of Axiom and Umbral. For those of you who are yet to start your adventure, we’ve compiled a list of 60 essential tips to help you master Mournstead and all the dark forces it holds.

Below is the second half our list, and features tips how to upgrade your Umbral lamp, explains the benefits of 'death from above' kills, and even provides a cheeky reason as to why you might consider using Photo Mode for more than taking beauty shots.

If you missed the first part, it's available to read here, and includes a range of tips from the importance of deciding when to rest at a Vestige, how to bank Vigor, and how to enhance your Sanguiarix.
Exploring Mournstead - Finding Secrets and Lore
31. Exhaust NPC Dialogue - Make sure to speak to NPCs multiple times and exhaust all dialogue options. Not only do they provide valuable lore, but they may also give you crucial tips, side quests, and rewards.
32. Engage with Merchants for Upgrades and Quests - Merchants in Lords of the Fallen provide vital services like equipment upgrades, item trades, and stat boosts. Found in Skyrest Bridge, some are unlocked through quests or progression. Be sure to also interact with Traveling Merchants, who offer unique inventory and rewards.
33. The Road Less Traveled - Mournstead is full of hidden paths and shortcuts. Those curious to stray from the path might discover quicker ways to travel, bypass enemies… and even access secret areas.
34. Procure the Pilgrim’s Perch Key - It’s an expensive item at 9,500 Vigor, but buying the Pilgrim’s Perch Key from Stomund, Captain of the Fidelis, at Skyrest Bridge is worthwhile. The key unlocks many of the otherwise inaccessible doors in the area, where many rewards, including the Sacred Resonance armor set and Adyr’s Hardiness spell, can be found.
35. Use Soulflay on the Environment - The Soulflay mechanic isn’t just for enemies - look out for interactive objects in the Umbral realm that can be manipulated with the Umbral Lamp. For example, platforms that are out of reach can be pulled closer using Soulflay, opening up new paths and opportunities.
36. Use Photo Mode for More Than Taking Photos! - As well as capturing a snapshot of some of Mournstead’s incredible vistas, Lords of the Fallen’s photo mode can be (cheekily!) used as a way to scout the local area for enemies and chests ahead, and even as a makeshift pause. So remember to take a break!

37. Listen to Audio Cues - The sounds in Mournstead are often your first clue to an enemy's presence. Listen for enemy growls, footsteps, and other audio cues to prepare for incoming threats.
38. Unlock the 10th Character Class - The Dark Crusader Starting Class offers a unique and powerful playstyle. With the Deluxe Edition, you can start your adventure with this class right away. Standard Edition players can unlock it by completing a hidden questline, making it available for future playthroughs.
39. Unlock Three Hidden classes via Specific Endings - These include the Radiant Purifier, unlocked via the Radiance Ending (cleanse all the beacons and defeating the demon god, Adyr); the Lord, which is unlocked through the Inferno Ending (which requires you to—among other actions—refrain from beacon cleansing, collect the Rune of Adyr and turn it into the Empowered Rune of Adyr, before extinguishing the five beacons instead); and the Putrid Child, unlocked by achieving the Umbral Ending (a challenging conclusion to achieve, which—among other steps—requires the killing of several NPCs including Gerlinde, and avoiding beacon cleansing.)
Advanced Techniques - Pushing Your Skills Further
40. Experiment with Dual-Wielding - Orius gave you two hands for a reason - Wield weapons in both hands to unlock new attack patterns for advantages against foes. For example, you can use a short sword in one hand, and then a dagger in your shield hand as the dagger allows for faster parrying, than other weapons and shields.
41. Even Caveman Need Spell Sometime - Even melee builds can use magic effectively, and it doesn’t take many points to unlock some effective spells. So if beating enemies is proving difficult with a giant sword, maybe use a few spells to help even the battlefield?
42. Hammer Those Antediluvian Chisels - One of the rarest upgrade materials in Lords of the Fallen are Antediluvian Chisels. Found in Umbral Bellies in the land of the dead, take them to the merchant Molhu (found by crossing into the Umbral Realm at Skyrest Bridge) and upgrade your lamp so it can add more Soulflay charges and Umbral eyes to enhance its abilities.
43. Stay on Your Toes in Umbral - While Umbral’s deathly landscape may prove enticing, staying in its embrace for too long will attract the attention of the Scarlet Shadow, a wicked foe and the apex predator in the land of the dead… Confront it, if you dare.

44. Death from Above - Plunging attacks can be an effective way of taking out enemies; delivering more damage the higher your weapon’s attack power, do not underestimate how deadly these drops from ridges, roofs, and raised platforms can be.
45. Backstabbing - Stealth kills can make light work of enemies not paying attention. Approach from behind and fully charge your heavy attack to stagger them, making them vulnerable to Grievous Strikes. Backstabbing is a useful technique for those not looking to draw attention to themselves.
46. Keep your Distance - In addition to close-quarters combat, keep a safer distance from enemies by attacking them with a broad selection of ranged weapons, including grenades, hatchets, spears and crossbows. They’re very powerful, and while not upgradable, they do scale with your level.
47. ‘Eye’ See You - The Umbral lamp has a socket for Umbral Eyes. These items, which can be acquired after defeating enemies in the land of the dead, can be installed into the lamp to unlock a range of buffs, including extending immunity to damage when transitioning to the Umbral realm, or increasing damage to an enemy’s soul.
48. Avoid Environmental Damage - See a powerful piece of loot, but it’s surrounded by flowing lava or dark water? Use the Umbral lamp and shift to the land of the dead, which is bereft of these environmental features… grab that now accessible item, and find your way back to Axiom.
49. Know Your Damage Colors - As you battle your enemies, pay close attention to the color of the damage figures under their health bar: Red means the blow has caused critical damage, white means it’s causing the typical amount of damage, while gray means the enemy is receiving a less than typical amount of damage.
50. Right Between the Eyes - Headshots do extra damage, so sheath your sword and aim an arrow (or crossbow shot) at your enemy’s head instead!
51. Light the Way - There are occasions where you won’t have to fully switch to Umbral in order to cross a chasm or pass through block pathways. Lift the Umbral lamp to cast a light between realms, and walk along the undead routes while remaining in Axiom.
Optimizing Your Build - Gear and Stats
52. Master the Stats - There are six different stats in Lords of the Fallen. While some—such as Strength and Agility—are self-explanatory and affect elements such as attack power and weapon damage, others like—Radiance and Inferno—are specific to the game, and give the ability to wield stronger Catalysts to cast spells and other magical abilities.
53. Armor Sets Matter - Choose armor sets that complement your stats and playstyle. Lighter sets improve dodging and agility, while heavier sets provide tank-like durability for those who prefer a defensive approach.
54. Unlock Boss Gear and Spells - Defeating bosses in Lords of the Fallen doesn’t automatically grant their powerful gear and spells. After a major boss fight, switch to Umbral and soulflay a memory fragment to collect Umbral Scourings. Exchange these with Molhu to acquire Remembrances; special items that unlock exclusive sets of armor and weapons related to your defeated foe.
55. Customize with Tincts - Use Tincts (found throughout the world) to recolor any and all armor pieces to mix and match various pieces from different sets.
56. Buff Before Bosses - Use consumables like elemental salts, resistance balms, or temporary stat boosters to give yourself an edge in boss fights. Preparation often makes all the difference.

57. Locate the Blacksmith Gerlinde - Once you’ve rescued Gerlinde from her imprisonment in the mines underneath Pilgrim’s Perch, you’ll be able to find her at Skyrest Bridge and upgrade your weapons and gear. Her skills with a hammer and anvil can significantly increase your damage output and durability, making her services essential.
58. Respec Your Stats, but do so wisely - If your character build isn’t quite as you hoped, speak to Pieta and use a Rebirth Chrysalis. This is a rare material that can be found in the gameworld, or purchased from the merchants Molhu and Winterberry, to fully respec your level points into something more suitable.
59. Embrace Pre-Upgraded Loot - Tired of farming for upgrades? Turn to the Advanced Game Modifier System and activate Pre-Upgraded Loot to find gear that scales with your level, ensuring a smoother progression through tougher challenges.
60. Don’t Fear Failure - Every defeat is a chance to improve. Learn from your mistakes and keep pushing forward.

60 Tips, 60% Off - Your Beginner’s Guide to LOTF (Part 1/2)

Greetings Lampbearers,

Lords of the Fallen is currently 60% off for a limited time, offering the perfect opportunity to dive into the realms of Axiom and Umbral. For those of you who are yet to start your adventure, we’ve compiled a list of 60 essential tips to help master Mournstead and all the dark forces it holds.

You’ll find the first half of our list below, covering everything from parrying and stamina management, to avenging fallen players... and even learning how to embrace death itself. Check back on Monday for the second half of our list (and add your own tips below!)

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1501750/Lords_of_the_Fallen?snr=2___
Getting Started - Building a Strong Foundation
1. Pick Your Class - Your starting class defines your early stats, playstyle, and equipment, but it’s not a permanent choice. You can completely change your build by investing points into different stats as you progress. For example, if you start as a Pyric Cultist focused on fire magic, but want to switch to a more physical, melee-oriented playstyle, simply allocate points into strength or dexterity to transform your character’s abilities and combat style.
 2. Embrace Death - Dying is an essential part of the game. Thanks to the power of your Umbral Lamp, when you die in Axiom (the land of the living), you’ll resurrect in Umbral (the land of the dead) for one final chance of survival. However, die in Umbral… it’s permanent.
 3. Use the Umbral Lamp - But death isn’t the only way to enter the Umbral realm; a world with its own pathways, treasures, and of course… foes. You can use the Lamp to peer into the Umbral realm at any time, and if there’s something worth exploring further, you can use the ‘death wish’ ability to transport over to this mysterious realm. Though you’ll need to find an Effigy in order to travel back!
 4. Illuminate Your Path - As well peering into the Umbral, the Lamp is also very useful for illuminating darker areas throughout your journey.

 5. Master Stamina Management - Nearly every action (dodging, attacking, blocking) consumes stamina. Keep an eye on your stamina bar, and avoid overextending by timing your attacks and dodges carefully.
 6. Look for Safe Havens - Vestiges are your safe zones to rest, heal, and level up, but be cautious—they also reset enemies in the area, making them a double-edged sword. Choose when and where to rest wisely.
 7. Save Vestige Seeds for Key Locations - Use Vestige Seeds to create your own Vestiges in strategic locations. Rather than wasting them in areas with plenty of existing vestiges, save them for areas far from safe havens.
 8. Upgrade As Soon As You Can - Use Vigor (the game’s XP) gained from defeating enemies to upgrade your stats. We recommended investing in Vitality and Endurance early to enhance your health and stamina respectively, helping you face tougher enemies without running out of breath in the heat of combat.
 9. Parry Practice - Mastering the Parry mechanic is crucial for survival. Start by practicing against weaker enemies to perfect your timing, and then use it to stagger enemies, providing you with an opportunity to execute a Grievous Strike - devastating attacks that cause high levels of damage.
 10. Gather Runes - Runes offer stat boosts, and can be equipped to your weapons after fulfilling a questline for Gerlinde (more on that later) which drastically improves your damage output. Experiment with different rune combinations to find synergies that suit your playstyle.
 11. Farm Safe Enemies - If you're struggling with a particular area or perhaps boss encounter, revisit earlier environments to farm weaker enemies for Vigor and gear upgrades.
 12. Use Different Armor Sets - Don’t stick to the same armor! Some Armor Sets offer various resistances, such as fire, poison, or magic. Switch armor based on the enemies you face, and adapt to the threats ahead.
 13. Don’t Forgo Consumables - These are vital for success, whether it’s Briostone for healing over time, Salts to increase damage type, or Wards to increase your defenses. Don’t hoard them—use them when needed, especially in tough fights or against specific enemy types.
 14. Recover Withered Health - Some enemies will inflict Wither Damage—one of three elemental damage types in the game—represented in your health bar when the red is replaced with grey: This is known as Withered Health. Withered Health can be restored by dealing damage to enemies, so prioritize quick, successive attacks to reclaim as much of your Withered Health as possible. Avoid defensive play during this window, as even a minor hit will result in losing all Withered Health, bringing you closer to death.
 15. Mine’s a double (or triple!) - If you’re after some rapid healing or looking to replenish mana, you can consume multiples of resources (either by selecting them one at a time, or by heading to the inventory and selecting ‘Use Several’).

 16. Play Seamless Co-op with Friends or Strangers - Lords of the Fallen supports two-player co-op, allowing you to explore and fight alongside a friend or a random player. To summon an ally, interact with any Vestige and choose the Multiplayer option. Select Beckon Friend to invite someone from your friends list, or Beckon Lampbearer to call a random player. To restrict your session to specific players, set a Session Password in the Multiplayer settings. Co-op partners can stay as long as the host remains alive, providing uninterrupted exploration and support, but keep in mind both players will die if the host falls.
 17. Banking Vigor - In Lords of the Fallen, you can bank your Vigor for later use by purchasing Vigor Skulls. While an expensive resource, it means you don’t lose that hard-earned currency when you die in combat. Visit Molhu in the Umbral Realm version of Skyrest to make your purchase.
Mastering Combat - Tactics for Survival
18. Use Dodges Wisely - Aside from blocks and parries, dodging is your bread and butter for avoiding damage. Practice single-tap dodges to quickly sidestep smaller attacks and double-tap dodges to roll out of the way of larger, heavy attacks. Master the timing to stay agile in battle.
 19. Watch for Patterns - Bosses and enemies have attack patterns. Learn to recognize these patterns to avoid taking damage and to find perfect moments for counterattacks.
 20. Master the Kick - Kicking is a versatile move for creating distance or exploiting the environment. Near ledges or high places, a well-timed kick can send enemies plummeting to their doom or leave them severely injured. Even if they survive the fall, you can often follow up with a plunging attack to finish the job.
 21. Explore Three Unique Schools of Magic - Magic in Lords of the Fallen comes in three forms: Inferno for fiery area-of-effect attacks and damage-over-time, Radiant for healing and buffs, and Umbral for spectral weapons and explosive damage. Each school of magic offers unique tools to shape your playstyle.

 22. Catalysts and Spellcasting - To wield magic, you’ll need a Catalyst tied to your chosen school. Catalysts replace ranged weapons and consume mana when casting, so managing your build and mana pool is essential. If you didn’t choose a magic-based character class, such as an Orian Preacher or Pyric Cultist, you can still dive into spellcasting early by acquiring the Charm of Fortune’s Sight, an Umbral-focused Catalyst from Molhu, giving you a head start in harnessing powerful magic.
 23. Soulflay in Combat - The Umbral Lamp’s Soulflay ability lets you rip an enemy’s soul from their body, creating a window to stagger them and interrupt their attacks. While their soul is separated, attacks on it deal Withered Health damage, which can be made permanent with a single follow-up strike once their soul and body reconnect. Soulflay is especially potent near ledges or hazards; use it to tear an enemy’s soul off a cliff and their body will follow, often plummeting to their death.
 24. Beckon NPCs for Help - Most boss fights allow you to summon NPC allies to assist in battle. Prior to starting the boss battle, look for a humanoid-shaped figure made of moths near the moth wall, and interact with it to beckon the NPC. These allies can significantly ease the challenge of a fight by distracting or damaging the boss. In some cases, you may need to die once before the option to summon an NPC appears, so if you don't see the figure initially, try again on your next attempt. And remember, different NPCs specialize in different attack types, meaning some might be more useful against certain bosses than others.
 25. Enhance Your Sanguinarix - After acquiring Saintly Quintessence (a relic located in multiple areas across Mournstead), visit Pieta in Skyrest Bridge to upgrade your Sanguinarix. This powerful consumable grants various effects, from restorative properties to removing some Status effects, and more. Each upgrade increases its effectiveness and boosts the number of charges, which gives you a crucial edge in longer battles.
 26. Utilize Different Salts - Salts apply elemental buffs to your weapons, offering extra damage or effects against specific foes. For example, Fire Salts are highly effective against Pieta, the game’s first boss, while Holy Salts excel against Umbral enemies like the Remnant. Experiment with different Salts to exploit your enemy’s weaknesses and gain a significant edge in combat.
 27. Limit Wither Damage - Blocking causes Wither Damage, but the amount of health converted into Wither Damage depends on what you’re using to block. Shields, especially heavy shields, significantly reduce wither build-up compared to lighter weapons like daggers. Invest in sturdy shields for reliable defense when facing heavy-hitting foes.

 28. Check for Umbral Parasites - Some enemies may seem immune to damage—this could be due to unholy creatures known as Umbral Parasites. Use your Umbral Lamp to peer into the Umbral realm and siphon the parasite, weakening the enemy and making them susceptible to your attacks.
 29. Vengeance for the Fallen - During your treacherous journey, you may occasionally come across a red lantern, a symbol marking where another player died during their playthrough. Soulflay it, and follow the red moths to your fallen comrade’s killer. Avenge their death, and earn Plucked Eyeballs, which can be used at the Shrine of Putrid Mother in Skyrest Bridge in exchange for rewards including armor, Umbral Scourings, and Rebirth Chrysalis (more on these special items below).
 30. Beware of Mimics - Not every item in Mournstead is as it seems! Mimics are Umbral creatures that closely imitate loot awaiting collection… if the floaty ‘tail’ looks like it’s blowing in the breeze… AVOID!

And that's it for the first part of our 60 essential tips. Come back on Monday for the second, concluding part, and if you're a veteran player don't forget to share your suggestions for newcomers below.

In light, we walk.
