🔥Settlement Survival Devlog #7
Hi fellas! Today I bring you some good news about the upcoming update themed "Calamities and Catastrophes", which will be officially released next week on June 21st.
This update will be a free upgrade to the main version. For players who prefer the old version, we will also create a branch to retain the old version of the game, allowing you to switch back at any time.
Experienced players of simulation games may know that the most challenging and enjoyable part of the game, filled with constant goals to achieve, usually occurs in the early stages. As basic issues are overcome and resources grow, simulation management games inevitably experience resource surplus, which quickly reduces the difficulty and makes the late game experience relatively bland.
This has always been one of the issues that troubled Settlement Survival. However, these problems will be effectively improved with the "Calamities and Catastrophes" update. In a sense, this update is akin to the final piece of the puzzle.
When you choose to start the game in "Combat Mode," you may encounter more busyness, more challenges, and more fun.
Now, let me briefly introduce the highlights of this update:

Now, let me briefly introduce the highlights of this update:
- ⚡ Disaster System Revamp
The updates related to disasters were detailed in the last dev log. The main differences in this update compared to the previous one are in balancing and optimization. Overall, we are trying to make disasters a more balanced challenge. We have added richer effects, more levels, and more response options. - 🐱 Beast Invasion
Unlike the peaceful farming mode, when you choose to start the game in "Combat Mode", you will face new challenges where beasts will occasionally visit your town. The invasions by beasts are irregular and without specific purposes, but they usually cause damage to buildings and casualties among citizens. Of course, being beasts, if they are hurt, they will quickly flee.
- 🏰 Bandit Camp
The Bandit Camp will appear on the map once your town has reached a certain level of stability. Like you, the bandits need to prepare before launching their attacks. After spending some time getting ready, the Bandit Camp will organize invasions against your town. The bandits have a clear objective: to steal silver coins. Different types of bandit units have their own behavior patterns, and their strategies become more complex as their numbers increase. If possible, remember to prioritize killing the bandits with coin icons above their heads, as those coins represent your hard-earned savings!
- Arrow Tower
For dealing with basic enemies, Arrow Towers are a good choice. Building enough Arrow Towers around your town can effectively handle early-stage harassment from bandits. Just like in tower defense games, arrow towers are made of simple materials, are inexpensive to build, and have a considerable attack range, making them highly cost-effective military structures. However, they are not without drawbacks. You need to unlock them in Technology, and The Arrow towers require citizens to operate them. It also takes some time for citizens to reach the towers. Continuous manning of the Arrow towers will require a constant consumption of silver coins. If your wealth is limited, choose the right time to assign staff.
- ⚔️ Militia Training and Combat
When you have a surplus population, you can train citizens to become soldiers. Training takes a relatively long time, so it is usually advisable to prepare in advance. Then, you need to gather these trained soldiers in different Army Camps to form squads. The assembly process is relatively quick, and if you have reserved enough trained soldiers, you can easily form the unit you want. The advantage of soldiers is that they are like mobile arrow towers, which you can dispatch to any location at any time—just don't forget to account for the marching time. Besides being used to defend and protect the village like arrow towers, if you are strong enough, you can also lead soldiers to attack bandit camps, thereby achieving longer-lasting peace.
- 🚧 Shelter
Whether facing wild beasts or bandits, there is a high probability that citizens encountering them on the road will be killed. Therefore, besides coping with natural disasters, Shelters are also very helpful against bandit and beast invasions. Once you activate the shelter gathering function, everyone except the military personnel will be gathered in the shelter. Of course, you should also be very careful when choosing the location for the shelter to avoid any incidents.
