DD# 252 How the Aten Cult Revived?
Hi, everyone. Welcome to the 250th week's developer's diary!
It has been another awesome week!
This week, I am answering a question. That is, how the Aten Cult revived after you fucked them up in Egypt.
Now that we have discovered their secret base in front of the North Peak. During this week's story, we can find more documents in this location. From the lens of a follower of Zhang Yin, we now know how the Aten Cult regrouped and regrew its strength.
Kheperheb, a noble, scholar, and a slave master who once served under Akhenaten, decided to follow Zhang Yin out of Aten's Realm into this new world thousands of years in his future. You can see him fit in quite well in the role of a modern-day slave master. (A.K.A, middle manager.)
During your exploration of the current accessible parts of this secret base. You can find various notes he left behind. You can also find him and fight him as a mini-boss in this location. He has some unique loot you may be interested in.
Well, to avoid spoilers, this is just something in one of his notes about how slavery has evolved over the last thousand years. Nowadays, slaves no longer even know they are slaves. They willingly work for their masters, paycheck by paycheck, every day, living upon other people's expectations and never actually having any actual freedom.
In those notes, you can find out many Aten Cult activities after the death or capture of their previous high priest. (Depending on your choices in Egypt.) Through such activities and Zhang Yin's new leadership, the Reorganized Aten Cult did something outside its old traditions.
For example, we know the Aten religion was among the first monotheistic religions in human history. Akhenaten tried to wipe out all the old gods from records. But he screwed up big time, leaving him and Aten almost wiped out instead. And for generations, the original Aten religion of his time also got twisted by people with ambitions and pragmatic needs. The old high priest did this. Zhang Yin also did this. The Aten religion is no longer the same as it was thousands of years ago.
But, anyway, one thing that is hard to change is the hostility between Aten and other old Egyptian gods.
Yet, deep inside this secret base, you can find...
Anubites are here!
Nope, they have not been brainwashed.
They pretty much all follow the Anubis faith. Anubis sent them to help the Atenists.
But why?
The answer is in the third note of Kheperheb, locked behind an encrypted computer. The truth is understandable but may still surprise you.
On the side note, you can bind those anubites and turn them into your pets. They have strong dark element proficiency. The religion books of Anubis can be found in the Grand Library or dropped by those Anubites as loot, so that you can unlock this faith to integrate into your customized faith as well.
And yes, they also get their <> entry. Have fun!
About 60% of this secret base has been finished. But there will certainly be more content to come. The Aten cult has grown into a full faction. In addition to their old cultists and slave masters, you have encountered in Egypt. They now also have brainwashed construction workers and villagers at their disposal, and Kheperheb serves as a boss character. Thus, the Wonder Land Travel Agency now has Aten Cultist themed procedurally generated areas for you to explore.
There will be other Aten units to be added in the future as well.
Of course, there are also some other tiny little things we get this week.
For example, as a follow-up to last week's new medicine life skill. We now also have item prefixes and skill books about this skill.
Just like all other life skill books you can find in Liu's bookstore, each of them tells a sad story. The medicine book works the same way, especially since we all know there are still wars going on in this world.
That's for this week. Hopefully, the content in this secret base will be finished next week. After that, my focus will be on the North Peak and those demons. Once again, we crusade into hell for the first time in the endless tale of NEOLITHIA.
