Hi, everyone! Welcome to another developer's diary.
This week is another busy week before the Lunar New Year. Traditionally, everyone is too busy to get things done this week, so they will not be left for next year. Thus, there are many real-life business interruptions that interrupt the updates. But I still got one important UI update done.
Now, all terminals in the game have an entirely new UI system! (I literally went through about 300 locations we currently have in the game and replaced all terminals one by one. From the United States to Russia, from Egypt to China, even to the anomalous nation from another dimension, The Nise Federation, all have been upgraded! )
The system is designed to be flexible and able to functionally replace all old features in existing terminals.
You can see that different terminals have different layouts. They can even stack one on another.
Your teammates may talk to you when they also see certain things on the screen.
You can have different APPs on terminals. You can play Minesweeper. You can watch videos.
You can even find story-related content fully integrated into this new system.
Each terminal can also have different skins. The Illuminati loves their big all-seeing eye.
The reason behind this is that I was trying to add more content for characters before the final confrontation at the end of Chapter 3. That means Tanya Al'Baden shall have more content about her. Who is this new girl with such tremendous power, and why can she be a leader of the Nise Federation's most secret organization? But, people from SAPC++, SAPC, or even that ancient Stone Age Online era may have found her family name means something.
To introduce her background, I need to put a terminal in her office with a document about another Al'Baden.
The Lei'er Al'Baden, the great explorer, the great sorcerer, the great entrepreneur, he who found Eden!
And it is because of this one single document, which I think deserves a better UI, that I revamped the entire UI system for all terminals. (Yes, it sounds dramatic. But, it's about a guy who rediscovered Eden and a high-ranking officer of the NEOLITHIA organization.)
But here is a plot twist. Everything you find in this document tells a story quite different from what actually happened in the old era. This document is only the version that the public knows about. But if you have experienced that part of history in the past decades, you know what really happened was quite different. (Don't worry if you have not. The story will reveal the truth in future updates.) Such is another topic we will be discussing. Does the truth still matter in the era we live in? Modern social media has locked people in an echo chamber of misinformation reinforced by lies and propaganda. Modern people are under constant stress and seek easy, simplified answers to confirm their views, abandoning deep, critical thinking.
Within generations, the Nise Federation has turned into a Theocratic Presidential "Democracy" worshipping their ancient hero king so that they can be united against supernatural threats. Lei'er is now also a good guy, with "No confirmed evidence of wrongdoing or heretic involvement exists
in public records." Isn't that shocking? It may seem like a fantasy. But, in truth, I have experienced something similar in real life. Just look back to the 1990s and 2000s, you can find many things were quite different. The global efforts united against terrorism after 911 was not too long ago.
"War does not determine who is right, only who is left."
Maybe all that matters is that we must win in the end so that the truth can be preserved.
Alright, let's put such a heavy topic aside for now.
It's Valentine's Day! All seasonal events shall be available based on your local system time! It's a great time to spend time with the most special person in your life! (Or, you can do some pranks or "burn some couples" if you are a F.F.F follower. :D )
In a few days, the Lunar New Year will be upon us! It will be the Year of the Red Horse. It will be the Year of War! Almost nobody really wants war. But when life throws shit at you, you shall not be afraid of confrontation, you shall not be afraid of fighting a war for yourself.
A Ukrainian athlete who put his lost friends' photos on his helmet just got disqualified because the Woke Olympic Committee, which allows transgender athletes to compete with all their rainbows, thinks such an action of remembrance is "too political." They warned him. He stood his ground, refused to compromise, and kept fighting for what he believes is right. I respect this man. As the 4th year of this war approaches, we will have some content about Ukraine again next week.
And that's for this week. The world needs more men who can stand their ground even when facing great odds.
