[Boombox]Added an option to directly change the game's volume in the Boombox.
[Steam Workshop]Removed the dependency of steam_appid.txt file, the game shall automatically figure out the game's app id if it's launched by Steam. (Also, save about 7kb file size.)
[Steam Workshop]The file is still there, in case anyone wants to use the Steam Workshop mods while launching the game without Steam for any weird reasons. (In case Steam dies in China and Hong Kong one day.)
[Steam Workshop]Mods can now overwrite or add audio assets. (Background Music, ambient sound, sound effects, music effects, and voice-over are all supported.)

[Steam Workshop]Unified the mod data loading order, the mods loaded later will always overwrite the content of the previous ones. And the additional Mod path written by a player shall always overwrite the one generated when automatically sync with Steam.
[Steam Workshop]Mods can now make their own database maps, NPC registry code, drop list code, and item generate code or overwrite existing ones. (Not fully tested. But, they are old SAPC++ DLC system codes that existed for more than a decade. Thus, they are likely robust. The problem may still exist with file searching and steam interactive.)
[Steam Workshop]New mod: Urban Legend. (The first mod that can have its own additional content to test the above functions.)
[Steam Workshop]For now, the mod may sometimes spawn a special slime mini-boss known as "Clinical Waste" in the hospital of Liu. It has its own item drop list. And the drop list is also from the data in the Mod.

DD#52 Workshop Localization Mod, Food, Speech Skills, and Beggar

Hi everyone, welcome to another week's developer's diary.

This week, the Steam Workshop functionalities keep expanding beyond mere graphics overwrite.
From a tech point of view, the game can now accept community localization mods.
As proof of technology, a localization template mod has been set up in the workshop.

Although I know little about Japanese, French, German, Russian, and many other languages, with a bit of Google Translation, the mod can demonstrate some results on the UI. It shall likely support making mods for most of the languages on earth except a few languages such as Arabic and Uyghur. Depending on the demand of those languages, maybe I can also try to come out with some solutions late. But, for now, that concludes my efforts on supporting community localization mods. If there are any bugs, I will also update the template mod accordingly just as I fixed a few bugs in the Japanese template this week.

The second big part of this week's updates is more food. A sushi bar and a bakery are open in the town of Liu. There are 5 variations of sushi and the new alcoholic drink, sake sold in the sushi bar. Meanwhile, the bakery is a bit different, it mostly just sell baguettes. The Baguette that people can eat, the Baguette that people can use as weapons, the Baguette that can shoot lightning, the Baguette can help pick locks, the Baguette that can make people believe whatever you told them, the Baguette that can do a lot of interesting things thanks to our prefix system. Basically, from a tech point of view, we get a Baguette food and a Baguette weapon while the Baguette weapons can also have prefixes on them. Furthermore, the Baguette weapon can be turned into Baguette food in case anyone is hungry. It's a bit chaotic. But, it feels quite fun in a messed up world with all the magic and unspeakable horrors. :)

Next up is the further subdivide in speech skills. Based on community feedback, the speech skill is now a group of skills of Intimidation, Persuasion, Deception, and Seduction. The previous speech skill is working as a base to affect all the 4 sub-skills. However, each of those 4 new skills can also have modifiers on them to further indicate a character's skills in their respective fields of work. For example, you can hardly use a zombie to seduce a human who does not like undead creatures. But, instead, our zombie friend can be quite Intimidate to the same human. It brought a bit more diversity to solve different problems in this world. But, they may have different consequences. For example, threatening a poor guy who just lost his job to pay up his bill may have a negative impact on karma while nicely convincing them does not; A failed attempt to seduce a police officer may only make them a bit displeased while a failed attempt to intimidate them may make them shoot you immediately.


We also have a bit of story content update, involving the beggar gang faction in Liu. Their leader finally appeared with unsettled grudges with the local dragon organization (though, he admits dragons do not all fly the same color.) The homeless people in the sewer are under his de-facto protection. Thus, killing them may now have some negative consequences.
His appearance can also be used on a male player character.

That's for this week.
Although the stock market is not in its best performance recently, some legal businesses are waiting for me to address, Shanghai is under the attack of another wave of COVID mini-breakout, it's likely going to be a busy week next week, I will try to limit their negative impact on the game development.

You can now directly choose to go back to the town from the exit of the Beggar Gang's Camp.
After you meet the beggar king, you can also go directly to the Beggar Gang's camp from the entrance of the sewer.

[Speech]When picking a teammate to do a speech skill check, the modifier of 4 sub-categories of the speech skills will now also display on the UI.
