Cave Digger 2: Dig harder releases on Early Access!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Happy to announce that Cave Digger 2: Dig harder has been released on Steam Early Access.

Counting the pre-production phase, it's been about a year since we started working on the game. The journey has been exciting, interesting, scary, and full of surprises. Overall, the whole development period has been very different in comparison to Cave Digger 1. As our budget grew, the game and the team grew with it. All of this brought us so many new opportunities and challenges.

When we released CD1 in summer of 2018, none of us could even imagine that we'd be here doing this three years later. Thank you all for supporting us by purchasing our games, being active in the online communities and spreading the word.

Early Access launch content
Two biomes to explore

1. The Base Camp
Your base camp is set on the surface of the Valley biome. A wintery landscape with surrounding mountains, water and at night a beautiful starry sky. The underground is a natural looking rocky set of caves. It's procedurally generated so each run is a bit different! Same goes for the rest of the undergrounds.
2. The Hot Springs
When you enter the second biome, your base camp will be located in a valley containing hot springs. Definitely a warming experience after all the snow and ice in the first area. In the mines of the hot springs, you’ll find a coral biome with many new treasures and challenges.

More biomes are in the development.
5 tools & upgrades
• Pickaxe
 • Sledgehammer
 • Scanner
 • Dynamite
 • Revolver

Each upgrade will make the tool more effective for their intended or unintended purposes. Also they’ll get some cosmetic changes for bragging rights. More tools and upgrades will be added soon!
Co-op multiplayer support
You can play alone, or you can create a party of 4 people (or less) and go diggin’ together. You can directly invite your Steam friends, or you can create a room with a code and share the code with the people you want to play with.
Character customization
In the base camp’s cabin, you’ll find a mirror. Customize your in-game avatar by changing the hats, head, hair and body styles. More options will be added later, but there should be plenty now to start with!

Here’s our vague roadmap for the upcoming months!

Update 1: The Grave Digger

Update 2: Escape from Valley

Update 3: The Rock Bottom

Update 4: The Final Update

Note: The price of the game will increase later on as we keep on adding more content. At the moment we think that the price represents the content and the quality of the game. Stay tuned for updates!

Anyways... Off to the mines we go!

Early Access release date moved: 14th of September

New release date - 14th of September

Unfortunately we have to postpone the Early Access release until the 14th of September.

During the testing period over the past weeks, we've encountered several new critical issues. We want the game to be in a best possible state (even for the early access) before we're comfortable releasing the game. We also don't want to cut out any content that we've already promised.
Steam Playtesting
Steam Playtest build is enabled and you can help us tackle these issues by requesting access on the store page, testing it out and reporting bugs via the in-game reporting form or discord (link below). Huge thanks to all the testers so far!

Community design contest #2

Hello from the frontiers of the new country! It’s time for our second community contest for Cave Digger 2: Dig harder!

After the Steam next fest and CD1 super sales, our lil’ community grew again so here we go. You’ll get to showcase your ideas and creativity again and we’ll pick the best option(s) and add it into the game. The winner will also get a copy of Cave Digger 2: Dig harder! on Steam when it becomes available on Early Access on Aug 31st.
DESIGN A RELIC
Cave Digger 2: Dig harder! will have heaps of interesting and unique relics that the players can dig up. Basically we’re recycling the artifacts from CD1 but just named them relics now. If you’re not already familiar with it, CD2 takes place in an unexplored valley with rough weather and deep mines in a weird wild west country. However, the relics are not limited to the world of Cave Digger. Who knows how they got there anyway!? For example it could be a lost photo from Clayton’s holiday trip, or a forbidden spellbook or alien technology from another universe!

These are some of the relics we've already designed.

The Relic’s size should be something that you can grab and hold on to comfortably in Virtual Reality. The Relics generally don’t have any functionality, but you can suggest some small functions and we’ll consider adding it. You can also design some simple visual effects like flashing lights or short sound effects to take it to the next level!

First and foremost we’d love to see the designs in the form of art. Drawings, photoshops, 3d models and things like that. Come up with a catchy name for the relic, and a flavor text (i.e. “This old flashlight is rusty and all out of batteries!”). The drawings don’t have to be super good, as long as you can get the idea of what the relic should look like. Our artists will be able to turn them into something usable in the game. If you are absolutely unable to produce anything visual, describe it in the best possible way. However, the visual submissions will probably have a higher chance of winning.

Understand that we might need to change a part of your design to make it fit the game world.

We could imagine nothing pleasanter than to spend all of our lives digging for relics of the past.
― Heinrich Schliemann

That being said, read the rules and start designing!
RULES
• The Relic design does NOT represent any copyrighted material. Your design can be inspired by famous objects, but change it a bit just like you would copy your friend’s homework.
 • The Relic design does NOT represent any illegal, hateful, overly violent or explicit content. You know, use common sense.
 • The design must be submitted by midnight (GMT) on Sunday August 29th 2021.
 • The submission must include an image of the design or a written description in a way that our artists can work based on it.
 • By submitting your work you agree that VRKiwi can use your design in Cave Digger 2: Dig harder as they please.

Moving towards the Early Access

Howdy, diggers! It's time for an update on our development status.
Steam Next Fest
Steam Next Fest came and went and so did our free demo. Thank you all for participating! We've gathered your bug reports, feedback and suggestions and we are now digesting all of it. Overall we were very happy with the reception CD2 demo got, despite all the bugs! If there's something you want to add, you can comment here or join our discord!
Early Access date and content
As you might know already, CD2 will be released in Steam Early Access. The date is August 31st! Time to sharpen the pointy ends of your pickaxes.

In the demo you got to try out the first three tools and the sparkling revolver, you were also able to explore the first biome and fight shrimps and nautiloids in the depths.

For the first Early Access release we're adding rest of the basic tools (total 7), some upgrades for them and a whole new biome with new loot, full of enemies and points of interest. Besides all that, there's gonna be many quality of life improvements and bug fixes since the Demo!

Here are some concepts and WIP images of the upcoming content.

Thanks for giving a damn about our game!
