Major Early Access update 2: Escape from the Valley

Update 2: Escape from the Valley

[/previewyoutube]

Escape from the valley is a major content update for Cave Digger 2: Dig harder. The update makes the game bigger, better and more dangerous than it was before. A new biome brings new challenges and the tools get new mechanics! We've listened to the player feedback and made many general improvements and quality of life changes. Watch the video and read below to know more.
The First Ending
CD1 was known by it's multiple endings so of course we're bringin that back in CD2. The first of the endings is now in the game. I'm not gonna spoil you anything, but let's say the update's name is a hint. You'll find more clues around the game!

You'll be able to continue the game normally after the ending credits play. It's not really an ending, more just an ending to a story-line.
Biome 3 - The Nest
Following Clayton's footsteps to the dry lake bed, player finds their way to the nest biome underneath. This biome takes a proper use of the climbing mechanics we introduced in the halloween patch as an experimental feature. It's more mysterious, dangerous and rich than the biomes before...
New enemies
Primal Chameleon
The standard enemy encounter in the Nest. Watch out for it's strong tail, long tongue and surprisingly precise throwing arm.

Thieving Chameleon
The sneaky friend of the Primal Chameleon. The Thieving Chameleon will sneak up on you cloaked, and will try to steal your loot. Watch out!
Tool upgrades
Worker's Glove
The glove gets it's first upgrade. Purchasing this upgrade will let you "vacuum" the treasures laying nearby, making it easier to collect big amounts of loot quickly.

Sledgehammer
The sledgehammer rocks the caves now with a rocket upgrade. Small yet powerful thrusters are welded on it, making the hammer more powerful, but also enabling the player to fly short distances. The players can reach treasures up in the ceiling or escape hordes of enemies using this!

Revolver
The revolver upgrade adds exploding bullets. Light it up with your handy finger lighter and shoot! You can use it to mine small holes of course, but it's a very effective weapon in combat.

Dynamite
The dynamite gets sticky with the latest upgrades. Stick it up your digging hole, or any wall, weapon or an enemy for a big and strategic boom.

Upcoming update: The Escape from the Valley

Howdy, prospectors!

Soon it is time for another content update: The Escape from the Valley! The exact date is not yet locked in, but we'll let you know as soon as we know. Here's a brief sneak peek of what is coming. We'll post another article at the release with more details, as well as a developer update video.

Lately, we have been streaming the content from this patch on our twitch channel, so you might've seen some of this stuff already. Anyways...
The Escape from the Valley ending:
The first ending of many to come. I suppose the name hints something, but that's all the spoilers for now. The player's will find clues in the world to figure out this one.
New biome:
The player will find their way to the third biome, a dry lake bed on which the player's base camp is located. Underneath lies the nest biome, introducing new game mechanics, dangers and loot. The climbing and jumping will finally come in handy here!
New enemies:
Two new enemy variants will be added. These baddies are the inhabitants of the nest biome, so beware... They're very protective over their homes and treasures.
Tool upgrades:
All of the tools are getting upgrades, and some of them come with interesting modifications. Let's say things can get quite explosive.
Two new graphic novel issues:
Clayton's story continues in two new thrilling issues, where our in-game narrator/guide/mentor/father figure will face even tougher challenges than before.

We'll also be releasing the game on App Lab and SideQuest at the same time with this update. So prepare for more players!

Community poll: Run length

Hey, miners!

We've been taking a look into our in-game analytics and turns out that only a fraction of the players currently finish all the three levels in a run. So we're going to make some changes to the game run length.

Here's a poll that we'd ask you to fill. It'll help us figure out the best solution for the changes.

Oh, by the way... The escape from the valley update is getting close. More about that soon.

Just a little seasonal update
Ho-ho-howdy, diggers!
The holiday season arrives to the valley and we have a small gift for you so you can celebrate even in the mines while searching for the glimmering stones.

You can now dress up as Nuuttipukki, a traditional Finnish character, who is comparable to Santa Claus. A young man might dress up as a goat (pukki) on Saint Knut's day and visit houses, demanding food and especially leftover alcoholic beverages. If he didn't get what he wanted, Nuuttipukki would commit evil deeds.

The costume would usually consist of an inverted jacket, a bark mask, and horns. Nuuttipukki is also similar to Krampus, who is a scary character from central European folklore.

Also, if you haven't read last week's announcement, we're now also working on Quest release on Oculus App Lab and SideQuest alongside the next big content update for Steam and Oculus platforms! With the Oculus App Lab release, crossplay coop is also coming which will be great for both random matchmakers and friend groups teaming up over different platforms.

Also in that announcement, we released the latest Cave Digger 2 OST song "Watch me go" last Saturday on our YouTube channel so recommend checking it out!

And of course, join our discord, if you haven't yet!

Cave Digger 2 team wishes everyone happy holiday season!
