(Patch Note) Quality of Life Improvements - Update Preview (02.22.2023)
Greetings from Orbis!
For all of you amazing survivors out there, we have an exciting patch for you this week. This week’s patch will make everyone’s life easier with instant shots, larger player inventories, (mostly) cheaper repair recipes, increased durability for ALL weapons and armor, larger ammo stacks, and more.
📒 All Status-Effect Shots Are Instant
Shots are a big part of Dysterra. Whether it’s a shot to your enemy’s head or an anti-radiation shot. We made status-effect related shots take effect instantly so you won’t have to wait for your shot to take effect. No more crossing your fingers hoping for your radiation shot to take effect before you lose that last bar of health!
📒 Removal of all Snipers
Snipers were a novel and fun addition to the game when we first implemented them, but over time, they became more of a nuisance than a fun mob you can loot. After long and hard deliberation, we’re taking ASKR snipers as you know them out of the game for the foreseeable future. We’re in the process of developing something else that will add some action to your farming ventures. But in the meantime, you’ll only have to worry about bears and the occasional cyclops when you’re wandering the wilderness.
📒 New Terrashop Recipes
Some of you may remember Christmas Trees and the introduction of potted firs as a decorative item. We’re adding a potted cactus in this week’s patch along with a light stand that you can easily turn on and off. Be careful around the cactus, though! You’ll get pricked if you bump into it.

You can use your terrapoints to purchase their recipes in the game’s lobby. We’re planning to add more decor recipes in the near future as well.
📒 Forge Refinement Modifications
Forging items was always a straightforward process: put in a basic item, receive a higher level item. We have some new items that don’t fit so easily into that mould, so we’re adding some randomization to what you get when refining terrasite.
Terrasite Lumps now have a chance to be refined into terrasite, fine terrasite, or a superior terrasite lump (refinable into superior terrasite).

You’ll see the possible results when you drop your material into the forge. Please keep in mind that each refined item has a different chance of dropping.
📒 Easier Inventory Management
We’ve taken several steps to alleviate the struggles of inventory management.

1. We’ve increased inventory sizes for all players from 30 to 36.
2. The inventory upgrade skill now has 5 levels: 2/4/6/9/12
3. The maximum inventory possible is 48 slots. (up from 40).
📒 Simplified Repair Recipes
We were trying to make repair recipes reflect the original recipes for items, but we realized it would be easier for players if recipes were more straightforward.
Repair recipes are now simply divided into 3 types: weapons, fiber-based armor, and metal-based armor. Each type has the same recipe for all items of the same tier.
For example:
Tier 2 weapons: 1 microparts
Tier 2 fiber-based armor: 1 silicon fabric
Tier 2 metal-based armor: 1 fine metal
📒 Repairing in the field requires energy
On the other hand, we want to encourage players to use a repair bench, and not solely repair items while in the field. We’ve added an energy cost to field repairs of items respective of the items tier, so bring some extra batteries if you think you’ll need to repair your equipment in the middle of a mission.

For those of you who don’t know: You can right click items while they’re in your inventory to repair them. It’s the same cost as using your repair bench, but you’ll also spend energy in the process. This isn’t a big deal if you’re using lower tier weapons, but if you’re using a higher tier weapon, you’ll have to think tactically before doing a repair.
📒 Increased durability across the board
While we were modifying the recipes, we also decided to increase the durability for all weapons and armor by 50%. If the durability of something was 300, it’s now 450. If it was 200, it’s now 300. This should make your life a bit easier!
📒 Larger Ammo Stacks
As part of the battle against inventory management, we’re also increasing the stack sizes for all types of ammo.
Light Ammo: 300 -> 500
Energy Ammo: 300 -> 500
Shotgun Ammo: 100 -> 180
Sniper Ammo: 50 -> 100
Rocket Cartridges: 3 -> 5
📒 Meteochamber Modifications
Some players were abusing the Meteochamber. We’ve taken steps to make NPC spawn camping in the Meteochamber less productive.
📒 Changes to Raiding Weapons
Land mines have been the primary base attack weapon for quite some time, but we want the rocket launcher to be a useful base-attack weapon as well. We’ve made some changes to make it more useful in a raid:
1. We increased building damage for the Rocket Launcher UWR-102 from 100% to 200% building damage. (The Energy Rocket Launcher is primarily an anti-personnel weapon, so it’s still 50% building damage.)
2. It’s possible to craft rocket launchers without conquering a facility. You can get core tetrads through random drops in the Hyena Den when defeating bosses of each area. It’ll require a few run-throughs and a bit of luck, but you’ll gain access to high level items that once were only obtainable through facilities.
3. If you noticed the change to repair recipes above, it also applies to rocket launchers. So you no longer need ultra-rare items to repair your rocket launchers. A tier-5 weapon repair will cost you: 1 superior metal, 1 superior microparts, & 1 superior terrasite. It’ll also cost you 60 energy if you’re repairing it in the field.
4. If you run out of rockets, we’ve also increased the building damage of blast mines. So they’re still as useful as ever.
That’s it for this week’s patch note.
We’re trying hard to listen to our survivors and always change the game in a positive direction. Constructive feedback is always welcome, so be sure to leave a comment on our Discord server if you have an opinion about what else needs improving.
See you all on Discord!
