Patch Note: What’s in Season 2? - Update Preview [02.01.2023]

Greetings from Orbis!!

We’re so close to the update !! We’re in full crunch at our offices and are doing our best to make sure everything is as perfect as possible. There’s a lot to unpack in this update, so I’ll fit as much in as possible.

A quick rundown of what’s in store: 2 brand new underground areas to explore (one PvP, and one PvE solo area), new map functionality, 22 new recovery items, 3 new guns, 2 new melee weapons, 4 new sets of armor, a new ammo type, new Hyena NPCs, new mutant NPCs, a turret buff, level 4 base parts, streaming mode, debuffs to base protection, and big changes to how global rankings are calculated.

We’re still in early access, but I really think this Season 2 update will bring us a lot closer to where we want the game to be. I’d love to hear your feedback so be sure to head over to our discord and mention one of the devs (@Dev_Armond, etc.) and let us know what needs fixin’!
📒Two New Areas to Explore

◾ The Bunker
The first underground area is a free-for-all space where you will very likely run into other players. If you go deep enough, you’ll run into new mutants that may just end your exploration if you’re not careful. There are entrances all around the map, so you’ll never have to look far to find a way in. Once you’re in, however, you can’t turn back around and run away. You’ll need to find the exit if you want to keep all of your stuff, so be careful.
◾ The Hyena Den
The second underground area is a private instance where you won’t run into anyone else. You can test your mettle against new Hyena bosses, and improve your gear when you’re done with all the new loot you picked up. Like the Bunker, you’ll have to go through it and find the exit if you want to live to tell the tale of your bravery.
📒 Tutorial Updates
The tutorial(known in-game as the Mission Guide) is usually the fastest way to understand the basics of any game. We've made several small improvements to make the tutorial more effective at assisting new players. The largest one is an item frequency map overlay that will show where an item is likely to be found. If you don’t know where you find something, this should help point you in the right direction.

It’s also available in the journal. If you’re farming for a specific item or two, you can find the item in your journal, and check the “Display on world map” button. You’ll then be able to see the item’s drop locations on your map.

Note: Items are randomly distributed into their respective container(s), so you’ll have to display the item’s corresponding container(s) on your map when you’re looking for it. And in case you’re wondering, you can display multiple container distributions on your map simultaneously.
📒 UI Upgrades - Skill Level Progress
You can now see your skill level progress more easily. We’ve added a progress bar to your hot key menu to make it more convenient to check your progress to unlocking that next skill point.
📒 Increased Crafting Times
Crafting differences before were small, but we’ve increased the crafting times for weapons and armor to reflect their corresponding tier levels.

Level 1 : 30 seconds
Level 2 : 1 minute
Level 3 : 4 minutes
Level 4 : 6 minutes
Level 5 : 10 minutes
📒 22 New Recovery Items
We’ve added 22 new items to help you recover from all types of status effects. Some notable items are:

◾Orbis Battery: You can reduce system overload cooldown time at the cost of a small amount of HP.
◾Pocket Whiskey: You’ll heal bleeding and fractures, but lose some HP.
◾Battery Pack Lv.3: double the charge of a Lv.2 Battery
◾Vitamin Drink: Heals health
◾Trauma Pack: Heals health, bleeding, and fractures
📒 3 New Guns

◾ EL-1 Pistol (Bellatrix)
A stronger tier-3 pistol. It may look like it packs a weaker punch than the tier-2 energy pistol, but its larger magazine and the ability to burst fire 3 shots at a time will make your enemies think twice about chasing after you.
◾ P-38 Shotgun (Tirador)
A cheaper double-barreled shotgun for players that need a shotgun quick. You only have two shots before you need to reload, so it’s best for picking off enemies one by one, or as a backup weapon when you’re in a jam.
◾ TAR-1 Assault Rifle (Thundershower)
This tier-3 rifle combines the power of a regular assault rifle with the firing speed of a submachine gun. It has fewer rounds than a basic tier-2 submachine gun, but each bullet gives more damage.
📒 2 New Melee Weapons

◾ Battle Hammer
The Battle Hammer is a craftable, and repairable!, weapon that is stronger than a cyclops claw. It may swing slowly, but each hit will give your opponent the fracture status effect. The more hits you land, the more slowly your opponent will move, allowing you to get more hits in!
◾ Great Battle Hammer
A stronger version of the basic battle hammer, this hammer gives the fracture effect, slowing your opponent’s escape. You could also use it on powerful enemies to slow their approach and use that extra time to reload or heal.
📒 New Ammo Type
Sniper Ammo. Ammo strategies in the game needed some complexity, so we’ve added a separate ammo for snipers.
📒 4 New Sets of Armor (4 pieces each)
(From left to right: Nanite, Mirage, Eisen, Aegis)

We’ve added four new sets of tier-4 armor. Each 4-piece set has its own strengths and weaknesses, so choose carefully when you’re dressing for your next outing.
📒 New Hyena NPC: Hyena Heavy Assaulter
We’ve also added a new Hyena spot event. In a small number of bases, you’ll run across the Hyena Heavy Assaulter. We hope he’ll add more variety to the PvE landscape of Dysterra.
📒 Stronger Turrets = Better Offline Defense
We’ve strengthened turret HP across the board to improve offline base defense. Some turrets now have over double their initial HP, so don’t be afraid to add a few more to your base before you log off!
📒 New Building Ingredients
We wanted to add some depth to the building process. Before, you could build everything with basic farmable resources, but now you’ll need screws to hold things together. You can’t craft them, so you’ll have to go find them in lower tier buildings if you want to add something to your base.
📒 Level 4 Housing Upgrade
We’ve added a level 4 upgrade option to most base building components. We’re hoping the level 4 design let’s people know that you have a lot of valuable goodies inside your base. I think it’ll be more fun to let you see for yourself in-game what a level four base looks like!
📒 Streaming Mode
To make playing Dysterra as stress-free as possible for all of our amazing streamers, we’ve added a “Streaming Mode” to the options menu.

Currently, activating it will do three things: replace all player nicknames with false nicknames, hide server names in the lobby server menu, and also hide the location of your core.
📒 Base Protection Changes!
Base protection is a great way for new or casual players to get used to the game without fear of losing progress due to offline raiding. The feature seemed a bit OP, so we made it so that you can’t do anything productive while your base protection is active.

That means you can’t craft, recycle, repair, open a chest, or even open a door. You can turn base units like electric floors on and off, and you can charge your core with any terrasite on your character.
But don’t worry! You won’t deactivate it if you click on something by accident. If you try to do something, you’ll get a pop up notification asking if you’d like to disable base protection.
📒 Cooldown times reflect usage
In our last patch, cooldown times for base protection were locked at 6 hours. We don’t want people waiting 6 hours if they press the button by accident. That’s why we also planned a dynamic cooldown time with a minimum cooldown of 2 hours. So if you have an initial protection time of 14 hours, and you turn it off after 7 hours(50% of total protection time), you’ll only have to wait 3 hours to turn it back on again(50% of total cooldown time).
📒 PvE / PvP Global Rankings
During the course of a season, a player might join several different server types. We want a player’s global ranking to reflect their overall skill in the game, but we also don’t want to discourage players from trying out PvE or Hardcore if they feel like it.

That’s why we’ve added weights to the points.
PvE will be scored in the global rankings exactly the same way as it is now.
PvP will have a x1.5 weight on any points earned.
Hardcore will have a x2.3 weight on any points earned.

These numbers are a starting point. We might fiddle with the exact weights down the line if it seems necessary, but for the most part they should stay similar to where they are now.

That was a lot!! But there’s even more that I didn’t mention, so be sure to hop on the servers and see what’s new and how much has changed in the game.

Good luck out there!

 🎤Dev comments🎤
💬Currently, major buildings (major bases and facilities) are restricted from being built to
prevent monopolization and abuse by some users. However, since we are aware of the
inconvenience caused to survivors, we are considering reducing the restricted area
and will reflect some in the next update.
🔍 Content being fixed or being prepared 🔍
🧪 Abnormal movement/behavior of some animal NPCs
 🎤Dev Comments🎤
💬We are constantly checking movement/attack patterns for NPCs.
We will quickly identify the cause of the issue and notify you.

🧪 Improving loading speed.
 🎤Dev Comments🎤
💬We are continuously working on optimization and related issues to reduce the time
necessary to load servers and run game.

🧪 Difficulty level problem for field boss juggernaut
 🎤Dev Comments🎤
💬We are working on the problem that it was too easy to target by advantaging some terrain,
and Juggernaut will be back to survivors with an improvement.

🧪 Considering providing a skill reset method
 🎤Dev Comments🎤
💬We sympathize with the need for a skill reset, and we are thinking about how we would
apply it on Dysterra. For example, we are reviewing a way to reset skills by acquiring items
 through crafting or Facility raids.

🧪 Fixed an issue where the character could not aim below fully

🧪 Fixed an issue where the hotkey worked when using the search function on a workbench, etc.

🧪 Issues with installations being installed improperly
 🎤Dev comments🎤
💬We are considering improvements for issues such as not being able to place items
like a workbench very close to the walls or automatically aligning depending on the direction
 the character is standing.

🧪 Changing existing settings for Single Player mode
 🎤Dev comments🎤
💬We are considering a modification function for survivors who must have been frustrated
because it was impossible to change the settings in the middle of Single Player mode.
You can change the Single Player mode settings by modifying the contents of the file located
 in the folder below.
 - Folder location: >\Dysterra\Dysterra\WorldSettings\SinglePlay.json

🧪 Planned improvements to the long crafting time of forges
 🎤Dev comments🎤
💬The existing balance was set to encourage the forges to operate automatically while
the player explores the world and loots major bases and facilities,
but we are considering introducing the ‘Forge Upgrade System’ as quickly as possible
 to incorporate opinions from players.
We will be back soon with better and hopefully more intuitive forges.

🧪 Minimized frame drop while playing the game.

🧪 Problem of character creation notation error in the lobby server list.

🧪 Planning to improve Gamepad support

🧪 Expansion of the area available for housing construction is in progress
 🎤Dev comments🎤
💬Currently, major buildings (major bases and facilities) are restricted from being built to
prevent monopolization and abuse by some users. However, since we are aware of the
inconvenience caused to survivors, we are considering reducing the restricted area,
and will reflect some in the next update.
