Development update

Hey guys!

Thank you for waiting patiently for Into The Darkness VR! We've been a bit quiet since we released the gameplay demo, but we want to reassure you that development is progressing.



What's happening with Into The Darkness VR right now?

A lot has changed in the game since Cosmos Games started developing Into The Darkness VR. However, in addition to the game itself - the VR games market has changed as well. Currently, you can see a certain division into games exclusive to PCVR and those that are also aimed at Meta Quest.

Nowadays, VR games are mostly planned to run natively on Meta Quest headsets, which imposes some limitations. While we don’t reject the idea of bringing the game to Quest - we decided that we would like to make a full-fledged VR title that maximizes the potential of PC VR. Therefore, we expanded the scope of Into The Darkness VR and significantly expanded the story of the game.




Feedback from the demo

It was a great idea to publish the gameplay demo. The players on our Discord have given us so much feedback, that we are still implementing ideas and suggestions. Although Into The Darkness VR is a project of a small Cosmos Games studio, many of you thought that it was dealing with an AAA production. You don't even know how it made us happy!

The expectations are high and we don't want to disappoint you. Therefore, GameBoom VR, which until now was only a publisher, joined the production process. Cosmos Games is working on gameplay and GameBoom VR is responsible for the design. We believe that together we will provide you with a fantastic game.



What have we changed?

While we don't want to reveal all the changes we're making to the game just yet, we've decided to reveal a sneak peek of what we're working on.

The locations that we showed you in the demo and on the videos are just a small fragment of what is being prepared. You can expect a greater variety of stages and not always just going from A to B. More complicated missions, more diverse scenery etc.



There will also be new gameplay mechanics. We are testing new gadgets that you will be able to use during the game, because in Into The Darkness VR, combat will not have to be a solution in some cases. We check completely new things and analyze their impact on the gameplay.



It's worth adding that you haven't seen all the opponents in the game yet, and we are planning several types of robots with different behaviors. If you're gamers who like to shoot, we also have good news that the arsenal in the game will be quite large...

As for the story, dialogues, voices, pace of the game, tutorials - we carefully analyzed the players' needs and watched probably all the gameplay videos on YouTube to see "how you play". We change the position and behavior of opponents. We develop the functionality of the base. Basically, during regular meetings, we wonder how to surprise you at every level of the game.

New release year

Of course, we are also working on fixes, support for certain VR headset models, and many other things. Yes, we have a lot of work to do. But preparing Into The Darkness VR for such a community is pure fun.

The changes we are introducing, expanding the scope of the game... as you probably guessed, all this takes a long time and Into The Darkness VR will not debut in 2021. As such, we announce that the new release year is 2022. We promise that we will inform you regularly about changes in the game.

New demo coming next year!

Into The Darkness VR changed as a result of the feedback we received from you being able to play the demo. We appreciate your opinion and we want to continue this way of communication with you.

That's why we announce that in early 2022 there will be another version of the Into The Darkness VR demo, which will include the changes we've been working on over the past months. We are not hiding anything - you will be able to check the game for free and tell us what you think.

Another demo update (0.6.0) is live! WMR support, QUEST + VD instructions

Hi there,

thanks for the continuous feedback. We are working hard to fix all the issues and make sure that everyone will be able to try the demo! We are still have issues with WMR bindings, we will provide the devs with proper device and try to fix the issue as soon as possible.
Here is the changelog:
  • fixed hand position after melee weapon break
  • disabled elevator collision channel for auto crouching
  • optimized player pose for lower crouching
  • add versioning text ingame for feedback purposes
  • fixed a bug where player cannot continue after shoot all the bullet in Shooting Range Tutorial level
  • optimized hand size
  • auto update height when player is using controller to move
  • updated UI distance to camera
  • disabled UI appear at item when grab


To play the game via Oculus Quest + Virtual Desktop make sure that SteamVR is closed and run the game through Oculus Dash in headset.

In the full version of Into The Darkness, players will receive even more additional game modes that are still being developed. We can already reveal that the sandbox mode will definitely appear, allowing you to play freely with weapons.

Demo update is live!

Hi there,

thanks for all the valuable feedback! We know that your expectations are high and we will work hard on the game to meet them. Keep in mind that this is not AAA title, but a game made by small indie dev studio. Regardless of that we will do our best to up the quality in all departments in coming months.
We addressed most of the issues that were possible to fix in short time. If you encountered any issues in previous version, we recommend starting New Game. Here is the full changelog of the new update:
  • fixed bug in tutorial level where player finish shooting and cannot continue,
  • fixed bug in Warehouse where scanner next to the big door that lead to the ending of level,
  • small climbing optimisation,
  • player height optimisation so player can crouch and grab object on floor,
  • minimum player height set to 120,
  • fix vive controller input binding,
  • changes in save architecture to boost performance in some areas (it’s better to start New Game and delete old saves),
  • fixed grammar in dialogues,
  • add more sound effects.




The issue with HP Reverb and Quest + Virtual Desktop is still not solved, but we are working on it. If it’s not solved until the end of Steam Next Fest, we will make the demo available longer than planned, so all of you have the opportunity to play the game.

Since we presented the game with Cosmos Games, we've received a huge number of messages asking - when is the premiere, is it possible to somehow play earlier? When Into The Darkness makes its Steam Early Access debut in 2021, it will feature a story campaign and some additional game modes. The demo version includes some of the content that will be waiting for players on the day of the title's release.
The Into The Darkness VR demo is:

  • Tutorial story level
  • First mission
  • Arena mode (players can fight waves of enemies)
  • Speedrun mode (the player's task is to run through the first level of the game before the allotted time runs out)


The tutorial and the first mission will allow players to learn the basics of production and introduce them to the game world. As agent Frank, we will get to know the situation of the mysterious research facility and use magnetic gloves that allow you to attract items.
Arena mode will allow players to face several waves of enemies. With this content, the player will be given a wider arsenal of weapons to try out than in the tutorial and the first mission. The shotgun and the bow shown in the previous videos will ensure intense combat.
Speedrun mode is a challenge for those who want to test their skills in timing speedrun of well-known locations. Level design was also developed with this mode in mind, thanks to which ingenious players will be able to significantly reduce the time of speedrun.

In the full version of Into The Darkness, players will receive even more additional game modes that are still being developed. We can already reveal that the sandbox mode will definitely appear, allowing you to play freely with weapons.
