6/24/23 - Chaos Chain Update 1.10.0

Hey everyone!

I put together this update over the course of the week based on some community feedback. I'm still working on other stuff for the next major update, but this stuff here in the change log should be all set for everyone to enjoy.

Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed a few typos


Changes & Additions:
  • Added some new Steam Achievements
  • The first time you enter a new district/zone and the intro text for the location is displayed, the game will autosave immediately after
  • Added a free memory chip to The Eclipse: Basement area
  • After talking to Tara in the main storyline, you will get access to a useable couch which will allow you to rest and save just like a bed whenever you want
  • All enemy drones now have a 5% chance to drop memory chips
  • Increased chance of ambush event happening slightly when moving between districts on foot
  • Added "Deja Vu" world modifier (Gain a free memory chip automatically each new game day)
  • You can now only rest a maximum of 3 times each game day (This has been added to first avoid exploiting the new Deja Vu modifier, but also to prevent exploiting the gambling system by repeatedly just resting and then going and racking up a ton of Cred)
  • Added a special new random travel event for metro and foot travel between districts based on community feedback (Memory chip seller)
  • Added another special new random travel event for metro and foot travel between districts based on community feedback (Memory Chip Finders Keepers)
  • Fast traveling will now turn ON the main HUD overlay regardless of the setting in the menu so that you can see your most important stats (Health, Mettle, Cred, etc) during random events (To make more informed choices during those events)
  • Added a check to the beginning of the random travel events roller which will prevent the same exact event from happening twice in a row
  • Added Scavenger Backpack (+90 Inv Size, -9 Initiative, 135 cost)
  • Added some new randomized dialogue lines for generic NPCs
  • Updated some item descriptions to be more explained for what they do
  • Added some new dialogue with plot related characters
  • Improved the contrast colors of the ui
  • Added a very faint edge glow effect to the ui where the appearance shifts from the border to the "screen"
  • Updated some main plot related dialogues
  • Updated some shop listings
  • Added some new icon art
  • Various other minor tweaks and changes

6/18/23 - Chaos Chain Dev Blog

Hey guys!

So, now that the newest major update is stable with all the hotfixes that I've released and the bug reports have stopped coming in, starting tomorrow - Monday the 19th of June, 2023 - I'll be starting work on the next major update. It's probably going to take some time, but like the previous major update, it'll likely be gigantic again. I have a lot of planned content additions, so it'll be worth the wait!

This week, I do have some other business to attend to, however, so it'll probably be slow progress at least for this week. I have family going out of town and I'm taking care of their affairs in the meantime for them. Due to this, I may not have a ton of time to be on the forums and/or the Discord channel, but I'll still try to answer questions and help anyone who needs help as I am able to.

My main plans for the next update are to finally continue on and finish a good portion of the main story, working on more world building such as expanding the amount of content available in the Industrial Zone, adding more side quests, increasing the amount of different travel events to make them more varied/unique/diverse, and just focusing pretty much all around on adding more gameplay content. I don't just want to fill the game with a bunch of lame and simple stuff, so it might take a bit, but it'll be worthwhile content and not just a ton of random filler content.

If I have the time, energy, and creative inspiration, I will hopefully also begin work on the next district. I don't know which one I'll focus on next, but I would love to add another one sooner than later so that there's more room for content and entire new areas to explore. I had originally planned on working on The Warrens district awhile back and wanted to have it done by now, but a lot of my development priorities shifted based on community request and what I felt was important at the time. Still, I'll get to it all eventually.

6/13/23 - Chaos Chain Patch 1.9.1

[h2]BETA Update 1.9.1 Change Log:[/h2]

Bug Fixes:
  • FIXED Psion background giving a 5% reduction to mettle cost of skills instead of giving 5% stress damage resistance


Changes & Additions:
  • Disabled "Powerful Projection" icon from always being visible for the Psion background (It's still working as intended and applying properly, but the icon has been set to blank like the rest of the other hidden statuses - I meant to turn it off before, but forgot to after testing)
  • All psionic attacks are now considered to be a certain hit instead of a special attack - with a chance of missing - since they already have a flat chance to fail (I felt it was a bit too punishing that the enemy could dodge these attacks on top of them being able to fail)
  • Safety glasses renamed to ballistic glasses (Fits more of what I meant them to represent) and their stats have been adjusted from (+1% hit, +1% critical, +1% blinded resistance >>> +2% blinded resistance, +3% critical evasion - Their value has also gone up from 15 base cost to 24 base cost)
  • Added Focusing lense accessory (Inv: 1, Gear, Accessory, +1% Blinded Res, +3% Hit Chance, +1% Confused Res, +2% Critical Chance, +3% Experience)
  • Cassia's starting overlay occuset equipment has been replaced with the new focusing lense
  • Updated some shop listings
  • Added new icon art for a few items
  • Adjusted some icon art to make them fit better
  • Some miscellaneous minor changes and tweaks

6/9/23 - Chaos Chain Major Update 1.9.0 (Psion Background)

Psionics were never meant to be part of the game, but since the game was released into Early Access, that was the number one thing that people have been asking me for. So, psionics have been lightly added into the game. Unless something drastic changes, the only character that will be able to ever gain these skills is the main character. I do not really plan on adding this stuff into the rest of the game for companions and enemies and such, but maybe once I added some more enemy types like monsters and mutants and stuff, they might be able to use these skills as well.



I don't want to completely change the vision of the game, especially being so far along in terms of development, and I personally didn't want psionics to be part of Chaos Chain, but I decided to add them and that players who are interested in them can at least have the option. So, in order to use psionics, you need to take the "Psion" background during character creation. This will give you access to the skill type and allow you to roleplay as someone with psychokinesis.



The special ability they get is "Powerful Projection" which makes it so that they get a passive bonus to each feature (toughness, muscle, finesse, resolve) while they are not in combat, so what this means is that in dialogues where there are stat checks based on those features, it's meant to represent that you can influence the mind of the people you're talking to. Beyond that, you need to purchase the new psionic abilities.



This will allow the game to feel more akin to "Shadowrun" for those of you who know of it. I love Shadowrun too, Chaos Chain is heavily inspired by it, but I wanted to build something a little different, so I kept things mostly about technology and not about supernatural topics. Anyways, you guys got your wish! Psionics are now available in game!

  • FIXED Smoke Cover status ending a turn early


Changes & Additions:
  • Throw debris skill lowered in base damage by 1 point, but given 1 more initiative on use
  • Molotovs lost 1 base damage and their price adjusted accordingly
  • The select hacker screen during system hacking will no longer display companions who are not in the active party
  • The select hacker screen during system hacking will now display ineligible (Those who don't have the correct capabilities necessary to hack) companions with the "disconnected" screen overlay
  • Disabled some leftover code
  • Updated cyber skill category icon
  • Added psionic skill category (Communty request - Only available for the main character through character creation)
  • Added "Mend" psionic skill (Heal health, recover mettle)
  • Added "Remedy" psionic skill (Cures minor physical ailments)
  • Added "Mind Warp" psionic skill (Low mettle damage telepathy attack, high chance to cause confusion and shock)
  • Added "Mind Vice" psionic skill (High health damage telepathy attack, high chance to cause shock and stunned)
  • Added "Guidance" psionic skill (Boost an ally's effectiveness in combat for 3 turns)
  • Added "Guidance" status effect and status animation
  • Added "Ward" psionic skill (Boost an ally's defenses in combat for 3 turns)
  • Added "Ward" status effect and status animation
  • Added "Mind Spike" psionic skill (Weakens an enemy target for 3 turns)
  • Added "Mind Spike" status effect and status animation
  • Added new animations for the psionic attack skills
  • Added psion background (+5% Stress Resistance, +1 Resolve, +5% Confused Resistance, Access to Psionic Skills, Starts with 3x essence, headphones, cloak)
  • Added "Powerful Projection" unique psion ability (+20% to all features at all times when not in combat - This means you can influence dialogues that are based on stats for positive outcomes in your favor)
  • Added "Psychic" title for psion characters and added this to the PDA title selection list
  • Updated combat sound profile settings to include psionic attack sound effects (Miss/evade/fail/etc)
  • Added several new icon art images
