Disney Speedstorm Hotfix – November 2

Hey SpeedStars,

We hope you’ve been enjoying Disney Speedstorm’s fourth Season, “The Cave of Wonders”. It’s been amazing to see so many new players hit the track after our full launch. The team has been hard at work making improvements based on your invaluable feedback and we’ve got a mid-season hotfix primed and ready for November 2!
RANKED MULTIPLAYER PARTY LEVEL REQUIREMENTS
In Ranked Multiplayer, the party system was being exploited by a small portion of the player base. To address this issue and to help improve matchmaking in general we have now introduced Racer Upgrade limits to Multiplayer parties.

This means a party cannot be comprised of Racers with an Upgrade Level difference of more than 10 levels. For example, if a Racer is Upgrade Level 1, the maximum Upgrade Level you can queue in a party with is Upgrade Level 11 or a level 40 Racer cannot queue with a level 29 Racer and so on.

We will monitor how this new system works and adjust it based on community feedback, if needed.
RANKED MULTIPLAYER MATCHMAKING
Racers with a very high Upgrade Level but very low MPR League will no longer be matched with Racers with both a low Upgrade Level and MPR League. This change should improve the initial Ranked Multiplayer experience for new players, while ensuring more challenging races for experienced players.
HOP EXPLOIT
Players were able to exploit both Common and Unique Skills that grant a speed boost by repeatedly hopping after activating the skill to maintain top speed for a longer duration than intended. It is no longer possible to maintain top speed by hopping repeatedly when using one of these skills.
DASH FIXES
• The hit detection when Dashing a rival Racer in Multiplayer has been improved.
• Fixed an issue causing Racers to be sent backwards after Dashing a Rival Racer.
CRASHES
• Fixed crash occurrence after completing Limited Time Events on Nintendo Switch™.
• Fixed crash occurrence when equipping customization items on PlayStation®.
• Various crash occurrences fixed across all platforms.
GENERAL FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS
• Racers should no longer collide with invisible “walls” during races.
• Jumba and Baloo will no longer appear as CPU Racers in Leaderboard Limited Time Events.
• “Accept All” and “Delete All” buttons added to Friend Invites tab of the Social Menu.
• Achievements/Trophies should now correctly unlock across all platforms.
• Haptic feedback has been added for Nintendo Switch™.
• Racer Icons will no longer appear to teleport quickly around the mini map.
• Charged & Backwards Skills Tutorials added to Starter Circuit.
• Improvements have been made to the Collection Level Menu navigation & UI.
• Improvements have been made to several Menu animation and UI elements.
• Various audio improvements and fixes.

Disney Speedstorm Dev Diary – Upgrade Parts Improvements

Hey SpeedStars!

In our most recent Season 4 Improvement Community Pit Stop we outlined some improvements to the Upgrade Parts system in the game. Those changes are now live in-game and we wanted to dig a little deeper into why we made those changes here.

We received feedback from the community that the previous Upgrade Parts system was difficult to keep track of due to the amount of different Upgrade Parts needed to level up Racers. We took this feedback on board with the aim of simplifying and streamlining the whole system.

We would like to thank our amazing community for their feedback that helped us improve this system. The input of our player’s is integral to taking Disney Speedstorm from strength to strength.

The main improvements to the system are outlined in the bullet points below and we go into more detail on important aspects in the rest of the Dev Diary.

The total number of different Upgrade Parts used to level up Racers was reduced from 15 to 10.
The rarity of Upgrade Parts now better reflect their importance.
The new system gives players more freedom when upgrading Racers from Level 1-15 as Collection based Upgrade parts are not required at these levels.
Upgrade Parts now have more detailed tags and descriptions explaining their usefulness, with several Upgrade Parts also receiving visual improvements.
LEVELING UP
It was imperative for us to ensure that players were not negatively affected by the new system. We wanted the experience of upgrading Racers to feel familiar for experienced players, but also simpler for new players and veterans alike.

You may notice that less Upgrade Parts are awarded to players, but this is coupled with the fact that Racers now require fewer Upgrade Parts in total to level up. As a result, the pace that you will upgrade Racers has not changed.

After the conversion to the new system some of your Upgrade Parts will now be required at higher levels than previously. This may mean you cannot use the aforementioned Upgrade Parts immediately, but once you reach these higher levels, you’ll already have some useful materials banked and ready to use.
UPGRADE PARTS CONVERSION
At the start of Season 4, all existing players will have had their current inventory of old Upgrade Parts converted into the new Upgrade Parts. We tried to design the conversion system in a way that ensured players' Upgrade Parts inventories maintained the same utility.

Some Early Access players may have lost progress due to the streamlined Upgrade Parts system, as a result, we rolled out a gift on October 4 to address this. We attempted to make the conversion as close to 1:1 as possible but this was not achievable in all cases, e.g. License Plates.

The table below illustrates how old Upgrade Parts were converted into the new system. The key change is the removal of Collection-based Upgrade Parts between Upgrade Levels 1-15, giving players much more flexibility with how they choose to upgrade their Racers early on.

The table below illustrates the conversion from the point of view of the Mickey and Friends Collection using Racer Mickey Mouse as an example. The key change is the complete removal of Racer Class-based Collection Upgrade Parts, which also gives players more freedom when upgrading their Racers at the highest levels.
UPGRADE PART CATEGORIES

UNIVERSAL UPGRADE PARTS
Universal Upgrade Parts can be used to level up any* Racer.

These Upgrade parts are very common and are required at lower levels.

*Each Racer Class (Speedster, Defender, Brawler, Tricksters) also has dedicated Universal Upgrade Parts.
COLLECTION UPGRADE PARTS
Collection Upgrade Parts can be used to level up Racers from a specific Collection (Mickey & Friends, Monsters, Inc. etc)

These Upgrade parts are less common and are required at intermediate to high levels.
RACER UPGRADE PARTS
Racer Upgrade Parts can be used to level up specific Racers only. (Mickey Mouse, Woody etc)

These Upgrade parts are rare and are required to reach the highest Racer levels.
MID-SEASON RACERS
If you’re eager to learn more about how their Unique Skills work, we have all the details for you below.
HADES
Hades’s Unique Skill is called “Lord of the Underworld”

Normal Activation: Hades activates a cool mood for a short period of time. He refills nitro fuel when overtaking an opponent while the Skill is active.

Charged Activation: Hades activates an angry mood for a short period of time. He spawns a large fire explosion if being overtaken while the Skill is active.
GASTON
Gaston’s Unique Skilled is called “Trophy Hunting”

Passive Activation (works for both Normal and Charged activations)

Gaston uses his hunting skills to hunt opponents. For each opponent stunned with his Charged or Uncharged Unique Skill, Gaston collects one trophy, activates a speed boost, and instantly recharges the Skill. The more trophies Gaston has the stronger the boost he activates will be.

Normal Activation: Gaston uses his bow to stun opponents in front at a long range. Right after the Skill is activated Gaston gets a speed boost.

Charged Activation: Gaston activates the boxing stance, stunning the next opponent he collides with within a short interval.

That’s a wrap on all of the new gameplay content coming to Disney Speedstorm Season 4! We’ll see you all out on the racetrack!
