Espresso Tycoon - video devlog is here!

We've just released our video devlog on the YouTube channel:
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

In these short videos, we are going to present the newest information about Espresso Tycoon. We want to be close to the players, that's why we want to share a lot of news about our game and the production process.

In the first video of our devlog you can see that we added blinking and looking in different directions to our characters, there is the first version of UIs connected with customers, employees, and decorations, etc.

And all of these features are bringing us closer to the release of the free demo version of Espresso Tycoon – which is going to be ready by the end of this year. The whole game is going to be ready in late 2022, so… next year!

Devlog #3 – New features

There are a lot of new features which are added to our game Espresso Tycoon. We are still testing and checking them – but we already can see that many details can really change the look of the character and the game is becoming more and more interesting.
Blink and look
We added blinking to our characters and they can look in a few different directions. You may say that it’s not that noticeable but just think about a queue with people looking in the same direction, without an eye movement. That would look odd. And we want our game to be as realistic as possible.
Decorate your coffee shop
The decoration is one of those elements that many players are waiting for - they want to create the coffee shop out of their dreams. That’s why we pay attention to many details. We are adding a lot of items (and a lot of new ones are going to be added). You can set them at different angles.
Check your budget
If you buy too many items – you will run out of money and your business will fail. We added the notification about the bankruptcy getting closer, and - if you don’t control it - you will say goodbye to your coffee shop.
Speed up the game
You can also speed up the game if you want. That’s the feature that is added to a lot of tycoon games. Now it’s also in Espresso Tycoon.

We will inform you about the next steps. Stay tuned!

Dev log #2 - Differences between people

We are still focused on preparing the demo version of Espresso Tycoon. That’s why we have started some next steps to develop it.
We want our game to be as realistic as possible. That’s why we need to focus on a lot of different details. One of them is implementing the diversity between customers.
Different customers in Espresso Tycoon
Creating the characters in the game includes taking into consideration a lot of factors – like ethnicity, age, or sex. The characters will also differ in style and colors of clothes.

In Espresso Tycoon we are going to have eight different social groups:
 • Kids
 • Seniors
 • Tourists
 • Business
 • Hipsters
 • Casuals
 • Students
 • Tech
Do the market research
One may think that running a coffee shop means just realizing the orders and selling coffee. Well, that’s a big mistake. The diversity between people means also different customers’ preferences. It is influenced by many factors – like the place, the decoration, prices of your coffee, but also kinds of coffee, even the beans that are used to create the recipe.

The player will need to think about which kind of coffee should be on the menu – for example, seniors prefer some traditional recipes, like just black coffee. On the other hand – you can’t sell caffeine or alcohol to the kids (and you have to remember about it!), but they would love to buy some sweets or hot chocolate. Hipster can order a coffee with some special ingredients - like almond milk. That’s why you have to remember about ordering all the supplies you need.
Other people in the Espresso Tycoon
In Espresso Tycoon there will be some more characters, which will have some special functions in the game – like your employees (baristas or cleaners) and influencers, who can be invited to your coffee shop to promote your place.

We thought also about the bodyguards, who can protect the coffee shop - if you would like to sabotage your rivals (and they would like to revenge). But maybe that’s too much?

Tell us, what you think.

Dev log #1 - Adding emotions to the characters

We are working hard right now to prepare a demo version. It’s going to be ready by the end of this year (2021).
Adding emotions to the characters in Espresso Tycoon!
One of the things that we are focusing on right now is adding emotions to all the characters. Well, you know – going to a coffee shop is not only a thing connected with drinking coffee. It’s the whole experience – that’s why people should have a lot of emotions on their faces – happiness, sadness, and so on.

We have already added emotions and reactions to some people in the trailer. As you can see, the barista is surprised when our influencer – Marion Coffeelard – is entering the coffee shop.
Smile and blink, it's selfie time!
Also, the influencer has a lot of details – she’s smiling while she’s taking a selfie. We added even blinking (she has sunglasses, so maybe not everyone can notice that, but we keep on focusing on each detail).
Happiness, sadness - real emotions
For now, one of the things we are focusing on is adding these emotions to the customers.

The other thing is adding interactions to the customers. Of course, sometimes you can go alone to your favorite coffee shop, but we know that this is also a place where social life is something really important. And we want to present that in the game. That’s why our customers will be laughing, arguing, disagreeing – just like in normal life.

We will inform you about the progress! We will also announce the roadmap of our game soon.

 • setting opening hours and policies, which may be different for each of your cafés
 • taking care of the supply chain and ordering coffee grounds from all over the world
 • analyzing customer opinions, advertising, and cooperating with popular influencers
