Event Map Update
Hey there!
Hoo boy. Today’s patch is a big one. I think I said that last patch, too. But trust me it’s a figurative ton of the good good. So many great things for all our Mori Cartians out there to sink their teeth into. We talked with players, read your comments and made some pretty significant changes that we think will enhance the experience of the hottest handless roguelike deckbuilder out there.
Let’s hit the big points first. The flow of the game has been re-imagined and streamlined! No longer will you move between Companion runs and Wild runs in an effort to unlock “The Long Walk.” It has all been condensed into a single run format. Now when you want to try to make a one turn kill Nova Scholar deck, you can test your swiping skills against a spectrum of enemies as you explore our new Run Map! We wanted to give players a bit more choice in what kind of run they have, and landed on a roguelike classic. How many elites can you fight in one run? And what are those purple rings?!
Companions have also been rolled into the game’s core loop. Now when you play a run you will have a chance for companions to show up along the path. And certain companions can be combined, meaning that you can have more than one companion adding value to your deck! Who knows? Maybe Bran and Poppet could really hit it off! You will still need to help the companion before they join you on the rest of your journey, and you may need to help them more than once. Some companions are just needy like that.
The list of improvements, changes, and added features is long so let’s get a bit more succinct as we move through them:
Editing your deck has never been easier with adjustments to
Swaps and Augments.
As well as new options in the Split and
Cursed Offerings. What does that mean?! Play and find out!
Various improvements to UI can be observed throughout the game. Highlights including the Character Select Screen and a new End Run Screen! We would LOVE to see captures of your end run screens to see all the wild decks you are winning or losing with!
ART! There’s more of it! And it’s even prettier than before, if I just humble brag for a bit there, thanks. But it’s not just card art, we also added VFX to in several places. Hover states in combat, glowing on the Might and Resilience to show when it’s active. Check it out!
Special mention as well to our new promotional art featured above! Dominick Domingo was kind enough to lend us his talents to really bring Hau, the Spirit of Change and Death to life. Thanks Nick!
Legacy cards, or the exhaust cards that you start a run with, have an added feature. They can now be upgraded if you beat the correlating Echo on your run! Let’s see if this shakes up the Legacy meta.
Quick Mode! Sometimes it can be a bit much to swipe all of the cards in your deck. Here’s to you Paw of the South! We wanted to alleviate this as an option for some of our more veteran players. There are now Options in the Setting for different skips to accelerate your play of Mori Carta.
A new title music track! We are working with Neil Quillen, a game composer, on some great new music and here’s the first track! It’s not complete yet, but we thought it was so cool we wanted to get you an early taste. Look forward to more!
What caught your eye the most? I am still trying to make the perfect OTK Nova deck. And we want to make sure that you can do cool stuff with all of the classes! So let’s talk a bit about each of them:
Scholar:
Scholar is the starting experience for every player and so it has received a lot of love from the team. We looked at the balance of Scholar cards as it pertains to rarity and moved some things around. Take a look at epics and rares to see what’s new!
Trickster:
Trickster is always walking the tightrope, and we love that about her game play! But some cards were a little bit too on the razor’s edge so we eased their balance. One highlight is increasing the power of the Seven Cards. We want to celebrate activating the more challenging cards in Trickster.
Druid:
The Druid was struggling. Our internal data was showing that our environmental friend was getting beat up by the dangerous foes in Mori Carta. She lost runs at a higher rate than the other classes by a decent margin. So we buffed Druids starting cards. This will help with energy problems, and we expect, bring the Druid in line with the other archetypes.
Atoned:
One of the highlights for Atoned is Initiates. They were a bit of a problem on the Atoned. While they were decently balanced in their power, they could quickly clog up your deck and just take a long time to swipe through, which created a bad feeling for the player. We removed one step in the upgrade chain to make them more impactful earlier in fights. We compensated for this increase in power by reducing the overall number of initiates that get added by other cards.
And that’s… the patch? It feels like I must have missed something because there are so many things that went into the game since we last pushed a change. Thank you for your continued support of Mori Carta. We love seeing comments, reviews, or content that you guys create. We always look forward to talking with any Mori Cartians.
So keep talking with us! Let us know what you think about the changes so that we can be ready for our March 1.0 release.
Keep gaming,
