The DAM Classics - Volume 2
Welcome to the 2nd Edition of the DAM Classics!
[p]In this Community segment, we highlight some of the old winners of the DAM Challenge and briefly go over what made them special at the time of their voting.[/p][p]This month's feature is the Winner of the 2024 "Shopping Day" DAM Challenge by Heronimo![/p]

The Immortal Market
[p]"I die for shopping! ..."[/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink]Heronimo put in the work at a time when Dungeon Alchemist was not as feature-rich as it is now, including some neat tricks to bring this map to life.[/p][p]Take a gander, if you dare:[/p][p][/p][p][/p]

Features:
• [p]Entry point (the coffins serve as portals to and through the afterlife)[/p]
 • [p]Registry (you'll have to qualify as dead before entering)[/p]
 • [p]15 different traders of non-worldy or supernatural goods (for them there'll be a short description catalogue with the free Patreon and Ko-Fi data in the near future)[/p]
[p]"One point for me is that shopping in DND is often a bit boring, or at least rather repetitive. The fact that mundane currency doesn't matter in a realm of the dead, and every soul has their own preferences, makes even something as simple as trading there a really good hook for RP for me." - Heronimo[/p]

From the Creator:
[p]We took our questions to Heronimo regarding the map's creation and inspirations and this is what he had to say:[/p][p]Q. - What inspired the map's creation?[/p][p]Heronimo - "The theme of the DAM Challenge, “shopping day,” and the urge to spice things up a bit—with a slightly more unusual background. In Elden Ring, there is also a coffin that is used as a means of transport/transition. I loved that idea."[/p][p][/p][p]Q. - What fueled your design choices?[/p][p]Heronimo - "I often try to present my own interpretations on several visual levels, like a visual chain of associations. Immortal, infinity symbol, realm of the dead, alternative goods and currencies etc. - In addition, I always try to incorporate little stories such as connections between different objects, analogies, quotes, clichés... just a few extras that are worth discovering. So it's really 15 different non-mortal trader themes on this map."[/p][p][/p][p]Q. - And were there any particular challenges you felt you overcame with the DA limitations of the day when you were creating the map?[/p][p]Heronimo - "At that time, there was no multilevel, for example, but I wanted the infinity sign to be completely navigable. This was achieved with the help of the adjustable room height tool and, of course, the terrain brushes. That, and adjusting the ruins to it, took quite a bit of tinkering."[/p]

The Judges vote:
[p]This map featured Multi-Level before it was even included as a stock feature. Which is a tribute to how groundbreaking Heronimo's maps can be. He constantly pushes the boundaries of what Dungeon Alchemist can do and inspires our Development team to bring DA to new heights.[/p]

Thank you Heronimo!
