Stretch Goal Unlocked: Animal Companion!

We Did It!

I am very happy to announce today that, thanks to your help, we reached the highly anticipated Stretch Goal: Animal Companion!
What Does the Animal Companion Do?
The animal companion will be your friend during your otherwise lonely journey in Above Snakes. You will find your companion on a specific tile that will be tied together with a quest line. Once found and unlocked, they will stay by your side. You can name them and, later on, will be able to customize them (fur color, for instance).

The animal companion will help you find secrets in the world you craft! They can smell things and let you know where a secret passage might be, find a clue you otherwise wouldn't have seen, or let you know where to dig with your shovel to obtain a hidden item! You can also instruct your companion to fetch you a certain item from your storage space at your base. This mechanic is useful if you don't want to go back home just yet!

And yes... you will be able to pet it ;)
A Little Surprise - Meet Little Bone!
To celebrate the unlocking of this stretch goal, I prepared a little surprise: A Kickstarter-exclusive skin for the animal companion called Little Bone! Little Bone will match the Bone Hunter's weapon skins (available with Bone Hunter's Edition and higher) if you want to go for the full western/spooky aesthetic! As with the Bone Hunter weapons, Little Bone is only obtainable via Kickstarter and will never be available again!

Let's talk Buildings!
Hello Adventurers!
Today, I would love to go a little more into the building system and explain both the basics and possibilities of the feature. It all starts with a foundation that you can place freely on the ground, as long as you stay on your center tile. To build bigger homes, you can simply snap foundations together. It is as easy as it sounds! So every foundation can have 4 more foundations snapped to it (and so on). By the way: You can rotate foundations to create nice floor patterns!

Each foundation can also have 4 walls that snap to its edges. It is not possible to have multiple walls on the same edge though - you have to choose!

If you have at least 1 supporting wall, you can add a roof to your build. A roof will provide shelter and subsequently protect you from rain and other forces of nature.

I really like the simplicity of this building system but, at the same time, love how creative you can be with it. It is really easy to create a simple, small cabin for shelter if you are not into building. But for those who enjoy adding a bit more customization to their spaces, you can put hours into building a big house if you want to live in something special! There are already a lot of different building parts available and more and more will be added with ongoing development!

I hope you enjoyed this little explanation of the building system! What building part should be added next? Let me know in the comments below!

Above Snakes is fully funded on Kickstarter while the campaign still lasts for another 10 days! Make sure to secure your Pre-Alpha access if you are interested in playing after the campaign ends.

Stretch Goal Unlocked: Mini Games!

Hello Adventurers!

We have unlocked our second stretch goal: Mini Games!

Therefore, the Corpse Creek saloon will offer you some mini games to make some coin - such as Hold'em! On top of that, new mini games for the survival aspects of the game will be introduced, such as starting a fire and fishing!
Let's head to the highly anticipated next Stretch Goal: Animal Companion!

Stretch Goal Unlocked: Spirit Shrines!

Only two days after crossing the funding line, we have already unlocked our first stretch goal: Spirit Shrines!

You will occasionally discover spirit shrines on special tiles; these tiles will be marked as such on the map so you can guide your adventure towards them. Once you have found a spirit shrine, you can activate it and receive a blessing.

After a spirit shrine is activated, it will provide you with a selection of temporary buffs that will benefit you for the rest of your current run. You can choose which buff benefits you the most! All spirit shrine buffs will be reset with the next run.

100% Funded! Thank you!

First of all: Thank you! Thank you so so much for your support! We did it, Above Snakes is 100% funded! I am amazed by the community that has formed around Above Snakes and extremely thankful for all of your help!

The Journey just began...
But our Kickstarter journey doesn't stop here! We still have weeks to go! I am sure that all of us want to make so much more out of this game. Let's keep spreading the word and hit some stretch goals! I am very excited for that! The first stretch goal "Spirit Shrines" is not far away. With spirit shrines a new type of tiles will be added to the game, that contain shrines you can find and activate! Those provide you with a selection of temporary buffs or traits that you can choose from for the rest of the run.
