Corsairs Legacy Demo is Available Now!

The Steam Demo Festival kicks off today, February 6th, and Corsairs Legacy is taking part in the festival. We have already updated our game page on Steam and opened access to the demo. Also, we launched a stream that will be looped online for all 7 days of the festival, where we talk about our future plans, big changes that have occurred with the team and the project after February 24, 2022, as well as about the current realities of the team.

We have posted a demo version of the game where you can try out sea battle and boarding. Before the start of the Steam festival, we did not have time to make all the planned changes, including comments under the trailer itself. Nevertheless, some of the audience's wishes have already been finalized and considered in the available version.

A demo of the game is available on the main Corsairs Legacy game page on Steam. Previously, a separate Steam page was posted for the upcoming free version called Corsairs Legacy: Prologue. In the future, one of the Corsairs Legacy versions will definitely be released on this page, so be sure to add it to your wishlist if you haven't already.

The main purpose of the demo is to get feedback from the audience about the current implementation of the game mechanics and take it into account in future releases. We will be grateful for the most detailed feedback, which you can leave through the feedback form in the game, on the website, or in the comments under the new devlog video on YouTube.

It depends on your support and feedback on how much the game will be able to attract an additional audience, and how much it will meet the wishes of pirate games fans. If you have friends and acquaintances who might be interested in our game — please share with them a link to the Corsairs Legacy game page on Steam.

If you'd like to help with the project, please keep the Corsairs Legacy game page tab open on Steam for as long as possible. The first two days of the festival are very important. A high level of online participation in our broadcast will help get additional viewers, thereby increasing our community. We will prepare a localized version of the stream as a separate video for the Corsairs Legacy YouTube channel.

Sailing Mode in the Corsairs Legacy Game

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Today we'll tell you more about the sailing mode, the future free version, show you the new ship, reveal some of our plans, and tell you about the content format and the schedule for the next devlogs.

We published a teaser for the free version, where we showed the sailing mode of Corsairs Legacy and announced that the free version will be available to anyone and you can subscribe to it on a separate Steam page.

We’re glad that the audience welcomed the water transparency and underwater world near the island coasts. We think it goes well with the game’s visuals and overall atmosphere. In the future, we plan to add third-person underwater gameplay. You noticed that there are no splashes near the ship. We already implemented the water extrusion and foam and now it looks more realistic. In the next stages of the development, we also plan to add splashes.

You are now seeing the new ship – the snow. You can see the foam around it. The ship is finished and imported to the game. As additional customization, we’re considering adding guns on a sliding carriage of a smaller size in round ports. Also, there are currently 2 other ships in the final stage of development which will be added to the game in the near future. We encountered an interesting problem – most of the popular ships are from the early 18th century and we would probably have to start adding those ships in the near future. For now, we have a few more blueprints from the 17th century in store.

Many viewers were concerned that the ship’s speed will be too high. Currently, the ship’s downwind speed is up to 13 knots, and upwind speed can go down to 0,2 knots. These numbers correspond to the real ship speeds of that time.

We’re considering giving the player the ability to choose between a realistic sailing simulator and an accelerated one, where the speed of all ships will be doubled. Double-time acceleration will be available in both cases. This way, both people who want realism, and those who like fast sea battles will be happy.

In the sea teaser, we noticed that YouTube makes the uploaded video look worse than the original. We started to study this issue and found out that we need to increase the quality of the source video so that the final video compressed by YouTube would look better. Now you can watch the current devlog in Ultra HD quality with 60 FPS. From now on, we’ll try to make all Corsairs Legacy content in this quality, so that the final image would stay clear.

We made a poll on our Russian-language Save the Pirate YouTube channel where the audience could suggest how often we should release new devlogs in 2022: once every 2 weeks, like in 2021, or once a month, but the video is longer and more informative. The audience’s opinion was divided and supported both options. Most of the comments we received suggest that it would be better if videos wouldn’t affect the game’s development and would be as informative as possible.

There were multiple reasons for the poll:

  • The first one. In order for Corsairs Legacy devlogs to gain more views, it’s important to make them longer and keep the average view time high. Therefore, the longer the gaps between videos, the more information and content we can tell and show you, which means the average view time per video will increase. The more people see this video, the more our audience grows.
  • The second reason – is we don’t want to reveal all content, so that you could get the most positive emotions from the gameplay, instead of getting a game that you already know everything about, since you regularly watch devlogs.
  • The third reason – while many games before release post only CGI videos, prepare screenshots, and rarely show real gameplay, we try to regularly show you videos from actual builds at different stages of development. Currently, we’re at the stage of assembling parts of the project into a whole game, where each component gets to a playable state in a few months. Therefore, the development process doesn’t allow to show new gameplay videos every 2 weeks.

In the end, to accommodate the wishes of the audience, we decided that main devlogs will be posted once every 4 weeks, and in each next video, we’ll try to provide full information and share new screenshots from the game. Also, we plan to make themed devlogs that we will be posting when they’re ready. Therefore, there will be 1 devlog in three weeks on average, which will allow us to find a compromise between those who want videos every 2 weeks, and once a month.

Corsairs Legacy Plans For 2022

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Today we’ll tell you about our plans for 2022, so let’s begin with good news. We decided to release an open free version of the game that anyone would be able to play. We created a page for the future Corsairs Legacy: Prologue.

Add it to your wishlist in order not to miss the release. In the game, you’ll be able to sail on a ship, see Bridgetown, play Perudo, and complete 1 quest in a closed location.

The goal of this free version is to get feedback from the audience on the game mechanics and to examine the current state of the game’s optimization. Everyone who actively participates in testing and sends feedback through the in-game form will get pleasant digital bonuses after the release.

Please, add the game to your wishlist and share this information with anyone who might be interested in this topic. We’ll greatly appreciate it.

Also, in two months, we plan to announce the second story project in the Corsairs Legacy universe, which is currently being developed by the team that created our game Save the Pirate.

For now, we plan to continue doing regular audience polls about interesting suggestions related to our game in the Russian-language YouTube community, because our English-language channel has not gained enough subscribers to create polls. You can write all your ideas in the comments below. We’re looking through them to select topics for the next polls.

We regularly get questions about whether there will be mysticism in the game. At first, we didn’t plan to add it in any form, but after doing a poll about it, two-thirds of the audience wanted to see mysticism in Corsairs Legacy. We haven’t decided yet, but we’re grateful for almost 100 comments about it.

In 2022, we plan to release devlogs regularly. If you have suggestions for the format, content, or how often we release videos – let us know, we might experiment.
