Notice on Beta Version: The new update will be in beta version

Hello, this is Sunnyside Up.
Regarding the upcoming update, we have an important message to inform you.

New contents are not updated directly to the existing build, but are provided in the form of beta version.
We choose to use the beta version for the following reasons:

  1. to secure the stability of the official branch updates
  2. to reduce frequency of save file resets
1. to secure the stability of the official branch updates
Our team has decided to provide a beta version to make sure that the future official update will be more stable.
Due to the nature of small-scale indie game dev team, it is difficult for us to perform large-scale QA.
Because of this, we often cannot guarantee the stability of the update builds we provide.
We decided that it would be appropriate to provide update via beta version as a way to satisfy both players who are waiting for a quick update, and players who are waiting for a stable update.
2. to reduce frequency of save file resets
In the current stage of early access, more new features are being developed and will be updated to the current game build.
However, adding these new features often causes the save file of the previous version to be unusable.
If this happens frequently in the official branch updates, the game experience would definitely be awful. Therefore, in the basic early access version, we decided to provide a beta version so that existing save data can be used as long as possible, and new content can be enjoyed via a beta version as well.

Thank you~
How to set up a beta version
1. Steam Client - Library
  2. Little Witch in the Woods - Right Click - Properties
  3. Properties Window - Betas
  4. Choose the beta you want
    None: the old regular version
beta - Enjoy beta features : Beta Version
  5. If you don't see 'beta - Enjoy beta features', reboot the Steam client.
How to go back to a previous version
Same steps as above, and select "none" in [Property Window - Beta]
Beta Version Notice
• Save files from the previous version cannot be used in the beta version.
    • For those who have progressed in the previous version, we have added a function to select Chapter according to your game progress.
    • Chapters can be selected from the Game Title - Chapter Select menu.
    • When you first start the game in beta version, you can select a chapter to match your previous progress, and from then on, you can save and load your game progress normally.
  • Save files in beta version are only available in the beta version.
  • Saved files of the beta version may not be linked with the later updated version.
  • The beta version is also playable from the beginning.

[Oct 26 02:50 PDT]
There is a problem in that if you save your game progress in the current beta version and then continue in the previous version, the save file cannot be loaded normally.
The save file is not deleted, and the problem is caused by a conflict between these two versions.
We are trying to solve it asap.

If you want to play the current game normally, you can visit the folder below
C:\Users\admin\AppData\LocalLow\SunnySideUp\Little Witch In The Woods\Saves

and delete the beta version save file, or back it up somewhere else and then continue.
(Beta save files must not be located in that folder.)

Dev Log #8

We are in the process of reorganizing the Witch's Encyclopedia.

We want players to experience the joy of being a witch through the Witch's Encyclopedia. However, in reality, it merely plays a role of conveying information, which does not meet our expectations, let alone there are occasions when poor explanations could lead to misunderstandings.

Therefore, we hope that the witch's notebook can make players feel more immersive, and we hope this optimization can eliminate some players' confusion while playing.

First of all, the UI will be reorganized.

In the "creature" category, the existing page only contains a small part of the information necessary for the game proceeding. After optimization, more information about the characteristics of the creatures will be added. In addition, the new "research projects" will be added for players to challenge.

In the "potion" category, the existing formulation description was judged to be difficult to read, so we are reorganizing it to make it easier for players to understand in a more intuitive way.

The witch's house is undergoing a "renovation"!

We suppose that the existing house can no longer meet the living needs of the little witch, so we plan to make some renovations to expand the structure of the witch's house. Of course, this renovation not just changes the appearance of the "Witch's House", but also adds new content to show more aspects of the witch's life. Please look forward to a brand new witch house and a richer witch life!

We are developing a new gathering tool. This time, we are trying to add mini-games to make it more fun and challenging. We hope this will make the witch's life even more colorful.

The entrance to the temple is finally open.

What does the Temple of Wisteria look like? Check it out for yourself in the near future!

We are planning to add these language support:
  • Traditional Chinese
  • Japanese

This is the end of the September dev log.
Please note that all contents are under development and any changes may happen in the future.
Thank you.

Dev Log #7

Hello,
Sunny Side Up here.
We are happy to share with you our latest development progress in dev log #7.

We are currently developing a mostly requested function: more save slots!
After the release of Early Access, we are very concerned about the inconvenient situation where players have to find the save files to solve the bug when the game failed to proceed properly every time. With more save slots in future version, similar problems (hopefully this will not happen again) can be solved easily and directly in game.
In addition, we are optimizing the UI of save slots by displaying more information of game progress on every save slot, with which you can easily see how far you have progressed and distinguish each save.

We are developing a separate stamina feature for Ellie's running.
After the release of Early Access, many players commented that the stamina consumption while running was uncomfortable, and as a temporary measure, we lowered the fatigue growth level while running to a minimum.
To fundamentally solve the problem, we have developed a separated running stamina function. Specifically speaking, running will no longer consume the original stamina and players can run without worrying about fatigue any more.
But be careful! If you consume too much stamina, you will be unable to run for a certain period of time.

Additional tools are being developed.
As new tools become available, you will be able to do more various gatherings, which will enrich your witch life and make it more fun.
Please look forward to a more colorful witch life with new tools.

We are reorganizing the residents' schedule.
Originally, we meant to convey to the players the charm of each resident and the naturalness of the village in the world of Little Witch in the Woods through the residents' unique activities. However, after analyzing the players' feedback, we realized that it didn't deliver the emotion as we wished before. What's worse is, it often interferes with the proceedings of the game.
Accordingly, we are trying to optimize the residents' schedules for the purpose of conveying the attractiveness of the residents more intuitively.
In addition, the indoor space of Kyla and Roy will be added at the same time. Stay tuned for updates on what the two residents' rooms will look like.

That's all for today's dev log.
Please note that all contents are under development and any changes may happen in the future.
Thank you.

Little Witch in the Woods has a talking hat, but doesn't quite have that Stardew charm

Little Witch in the Woods is exactly what it says on the tin. Ellie, an apprentice witch, is on her way to the city of Highlion to continue training when her train shudders to a halt. The conductor warns that she's allowed to get off, so long as she returns by morning. Ellie explores the woods and finds an abandoned witch's house, where she spends the night—and gets left behind. It's a long wait for the next train, and it turns out there are people in the nearby village who could really use a witch's help. Cue the title drop...
