The Falcon's Victory

There are many airships in Airship Academy, all of them have their histories. While each airship may come from many places, build at different times, and have been through different events; there are only a few places where their Airframe's Blueprint came from. Today, we have a look at one of the most commonly used pre-war transport designs in the Azure Ring, the Falcon's Victory.

As the name suggests, the Falcon's Victory's Airframe used to be classified as an Aecerlian Navy's frigate class warship. Its designers were praised back then for the frame's quality and industrial design, incorporating many of Azure Ring's plentiful and durable material, especially the singular mast made of one piece of an indestructible gigantic Ancient Metalwood pole. Ships using the Falcon's Victory Airframe were sights to behold during the pre-war era, when the Aecerlian's Empire Military' might, rules unchallenged over the sky of the Azure Ring.

The Great Sky War changed everything for the Airframe. As the first encounter with the Confederation's Navy Core saw the introduction of high-explosive propellants for the first time to the Aecerlain Navy. Only one shot from the Teutonic Howitzer was enough to shatter the gigantic mast thought indestructible that hoisted all the sails and is the only mean of propelling the ships.

The production and logistics behind transporting, refitting, and fixing the gigantic mast have been proven impossible outside the core of the empire. In later years, efforts to fix and maintain damaged Falcon's Victory ships were ceased and make way to other new designs that are more versatile and fit better into continental warfare.

As the war dies down, the Falcon's Victory ships have then been incorporated into local law enforcement and mostly refitted into logistic roles. Rows after rows of Mana Lances and Beams were replaced by cargo rooms and musket racks that guard the ships against pirates and marauders.

The Falcon's Victory is an airframe that reminds the denizens of the Blue Belt of the bygone era and glorious days of the empire that will never return.

Airship Academy is a story about the changing world, different in theme, yet very similar to ours. What do you think about imperialism? Should it have lasted? Or should it change with time?

Books and Collectibles

There is a lot of reading in Airship Academy. The story takes place in a time that you can't just search Youtube for a free audiobook and listen to it while you are gaming. I do that all the time now, it makes me felt less guilty from spending my time gaming instead of making our game.

Right in the middle of the screen is our commander's treasury, these are things we can keep without occupying cargo space and come with us as we change to new ships. We are hovering our mouse cursor over a book or a "Literature" called "A Life of a Skyfarer". This is one of many books that you can collect from various places in the Sagson Archipelago.

Every single item in Airship Academy has description writing that binds it to the world and contributes to world-building in some ways. This piece of literature, for example, is the first book in a long ongoing series by Kimberly Skye, a renowned continental traveler who write a review about places she visits.

To the left is our ship's status, it is quite observable that we have taken damage from a fight with one part of the ship being marked by a red "X". Ship's customization is a very meticulous aspect in Airship Academy that will be covered other days.

Airship Academy's world spans over a whole planet of Spheara, the first release will feature the Sagson Archipelago under the rule of the Suthseg Kingdom. For what reason? Just keep following our #screenshotsaturday to find out eventually.

So? What do you think? Is reading still a thing now a day? Do people still collect literature and still really spending time reading them?

Battle Features

One of the main features of Airship Academy is the aerial combat between ships. There is a lot of thing in this screenshot to unpack, though they would all make sense once you get used to it. Airship Academy is hardcore, so we respect our players' ability to cope with the complexity. Hence, we are going to make everything highly accessible without dumbing anything down.

Starting from the focal point in the middle of the screen, 2 airships are having a go at one another. The one with the circle around it is our ship, it is a combat corvette with red sails and a wooden frame. The opposite is a non-combat freighter repurposed into a combat vessel by some poor pirate raiders. You can notice that our ship is moving forward slowly by looking at the arrow icon in front of it. The line connecting the two ships meaning that we are engaging the other targeted ship. You will at one point, fight against multiple opponents in Airship Academy.

Each ship consists of many parts from weapons, ammo storage, power generators, to captain quarters and luxury lounge. Each part contributes to overall ships' performance and attack behaviors and can be targetted and destroyed in battle individually, causing ships to lose performance as more parts are destroyed.

To the top of the screen are our meta information. On the top-left, we have the current mission that the player is tasked with. In the middle-upper is the current area that we are in while the middle-lower shows who we are fighting against. The top-right is the date and time with a setting button neatly fitted in.

To the left side of the screen is the list of officers onboard our airship, you can notice icons next to them which are their currently active skills. We can ask the officers to use their skills to take the advantage of the situation or turn the situation around. We could also leave it to officers to fly our airship in battle by just right-clicking and let go of the helm.

To the right side of the screen are the opponent's officers, they came from many places and many backgrounds. They also have their skill sets that they employ in battles according to the situation. Smart ones could turn the battle against us very quickly if we let our guard down.

At the bottom left of the screen is our ship's high-level status. To the top is the name of our ship called "The Destiny". The circular GUI with a drawing of our ship is showing the firing and firepower status on multiple sides of our ship. If our ship lost a gun, the green area around the area edge of the firing arc would grow shorter. There are multiple performance parameters shown here, from top to bottom are 1) Mana Shield Integrity 2) Hull Integrity 3) Command Quarters Integrity 4) Propulsion Force 5) Power 6) Ammo Storage 7) Supplies 8) Crew's Morale 9) Ship's Velocity and Turn Rate.

At the bottom right is the same as our ship's high-level status but it is presenting the opponent's status. Normally this would not be fully observable and require our navigator's observation skill to uncover. You can subdue your opponents by destroying their command quarters, drives, powerplant, or get rid of all of their crews somehow.

To the bottom-most of the screen is the log that displays the information for things that have happened recently.

So? What do you think? Does the combat in Airship Academy too complex? Just right? Or too easy for you?
