Our Top Tips for building in New York!

[p]Now the New York location has been out for a little while and you've all had a chance to really dig in, we thought we'd jump into some top tips on mastering the map.[/p][p]Whether you're revisiting the map or diving in for the first time, this blog will include a bunch of tips that will help you build a hotel that thrives in the city that never sleeps and make your builds more efficient and profitable!
[/p]
Top Tips for Building a Top-Tier New York Hotel!

Start Smart
[p]Choose the financing option that matches your playstyle - the New York map has 3 finance options to choose from in the scenario. Risk-takers might go for high loans, while strategists may prefer slow, steady growth.

The three types are: [/p]
 • [p] Investment - starting money $275,000 but you must pay 5 $25,000 lumps starting on day 20 and eventually reach a hotel value of $2.5 million![/p]
 • [p]City Loan - starting money $350,000 but you must pay back the city $250,000 and at some point have 25 staff hired consecutively for 5 days. [/p]
 • [p]Bootstrap - starting money $150,000 and you need to reach a profit of $2,000 per employee for 3 consecutive days and have 10 bedrooms on the same floor.[/p]
[p]Some of these are easier than others, depending on your play style with bootstrap being more independent but less starting funds! Figure out which is the best for you, or if you like a challenge you could try to be successful with a build on all 3 options.[/p][p]
[/p]
Balance Luxury and Practicality
[p]Offer a mix of room types including luxury suites, business rooms, and budget-friendly options. If you build too big too quickly, then you'll find yourself running out of money very fast!

If you play with a 'build everything in big chunks' style, then you'll need to remind yourself to avoid getting low on funds and let the hotel function at least a little bit while building.

The easiest way to gradually build a successful hotel is to start with the guests that require the lower star ratings like Backpackers and work your way up to the 5 star demanding Upper Crust. You can always hop back and upgrade the lower star rooms later or renovate them entirely once the hotel is more established.
[/p]
Design with Vertical Efficiency!
[p]Elevators are quite important in this map - after all you don't want it to take half a day for a cleaner to take sheets up to the top floors!

If you are looking to make the most out of the space in your hotels, once your elevator is built, you can delete the stairs. This will help when squeezing in those extra rooms.

You can also make your layouts more efficient by popping in another staff room or multiple laundry zones etc to reduce travel time of your staff. [/p]
Spread out your zones
[p]Remember you have 25 times the 10x10 tiles to play with here, so having an entire restaurant floor isn't a bad idea if you're catering to lots of hungry guests! You could even spread the kitchen out onto another floor for a mega restaurant.

[/p]
Problem solving
[p]When you're having an issue with something in your hotel either not being done or a flow problem, follow the staff that are meant to be tackling this or watch your guests as the wander around. [/p][p]You'll often be able to suss out what's gone wrong by assessing what is causing the problem. [/p][p]Beds not being made: How over worked are your cleaners or are there enough washing machines? [/p][p]Trash piling up: Do you have enough dumpsters/bins and do your cleaners have time in the day after prioritising making the beds? [/p][p]Guests leaving because they can't check in: Do you have enough receptionists to tackle the busy influx of check outs/check ins? [/p][p][/p][p]
You can also seek help in the steam discussions, our discord or you may find some helpful tips on our Hotel Architect Wiki.

P.S. If you read this far, thank you and you'll also be happy to know we have a big announcement on the next location coming next week 👀 [/p]

Guest Focus: Sunbathers!

[p]Ah, the Sunbather. The sun-kissed, SPF-averse, swimsuit wearing guest of your hotel empires. If you’re building a resort in Hotel Architect and you’re not catering to these solar-powered guests, you're missing a trick! [/p][p]Let’s break down what makes these radiant visitors tick.. and how to keep them blissfully baking under the sun in game!
[/p]
Who Are the Sunbathers?
[p]Sunbathers are the bronzed of vacationers of your guest list. They don’t care about your five-star dining or your avant-garde art installations. No, no. These folks are here for one thing and one thing only: maximum UV exposure![/p][p]They’re drawn to hotels that offer ample tanning opportunities. Think of the average sun worshipping vacationers that have a craving for anywhere they can stretch out like lizards on a hot rock!
[/p]
What Do They Want?
[p]Let’s be honest - Sunbathers are simple compared to Upper Crust but sometimes we jump straight past them because we want 5 stars straight away so here’s their wishlist:
[/p][p]Sun, and lots of it (or the artificial kind!)[/p][p]This means sunbeds to sunbath on! Sunbathers will show up to any location, as long as you’ve got the goods. Ended up in Snowy St. Anton with no sun? No problem - a tanning bed inside will do!

[/p][carousel][/carousel][p][/p][p]A 3-star hotel rating or higher - they’re not savages like backpackers, after all đŸ€[/p][p]3 star hotels need at least a gym, restaurant and a bar, plus 3 star standard rooms. You can see all the details about your ratings and reviews in the Financial overview tab. Clicking on the last critic review button will show you more indepth areas to cover.

Bonus points if you have things Sunbathers like! You may have noticed in the Guest tab of the People Area that sunbathers also enjoy certain items. They will like your hotel more and give higher reviews if they have access to these things in your hotel: [/p]
 • [p]Salad on the restaurant menu[/p]
 • [p]Surf simulator for some entertainment[/p]
 • [p]Exercise balls in the gym[/p]
[p]Guests don't have to have these items, and will use others but they will rate more highly when they have their favourites.
[/p][p]
[/p]
Struggling with that sunbather goal in Santorini? (yes that one!)
[p]We've had a few of you mention that you are struggling to understand why the sunbathing guest goal in the Santorini Scenario isn't increasing when guests use the sunbeds. [/p][p][/p][p]If the guest is not a sunbather guest type, then it will not count. You can click on the sunbathing guest to see what type of guest they are. See below, this is a backpacker, not a sunbather!

[/p][p][/p][p]If you are finding you aren't getting any sunbathers use the sunbeds, follow the wishlist above to tick the boxes for sunbathers to come to your hotel! [/p][p]To help with this, you can also click on a room, and hover over sunbathers in the right hand side panel to see what's missing from it for sunbathers to stay in it. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]We hope this helps you under one of the six guest types a little more, and if you want one of these blogs on another guest type, let us know! [/p][p][/p][p]You can find more info on guest types on our Wiki too! https://hotel-architect.fandom.com/wiki/Hotel_Architect_Wiki[/p]

Update No. 7

[p]Hey Hoteliers,

We've just released a small update for Hotel Architect including a bunch of small fixes and even more new animations!
[/p][p]Check out everything included in our latest update below: [/p][p][/p]
Some more new animations for activities!
• [p]Guests can now enjoy facial masks in the spa - Because nothing says “relaxation” like cucumber slices and clay![/p]
 • [p]Fruit is now up for grabs at snack tables in the spa and conference zones and you can see guests eating it![/p]
[p][/p]
Fixes & Tweaks
• [p]Waiters have learned to stay in their lane! They’ll now only fetch drinks and cutlery from their assigned restaurant zone. No more wandering waiters on a quest for knives and forks![/p]
 • [p]Elevator placement now shows which way the entrance faces. [/p]
 • [p]Fixed a material delivery issue with the construction workers on the New York location, when a truck blocks Lot 3 as the vehicle is too long.[/p]
 • [p]The New York objective “25 staff hired for 5 days” now shows your current streak for progress tracking.[/p]
 • [p]That weirdly cursed “Sunbather” objective in German, that somehow kept creeping in? It’s finally been exorcised and will show the correct translation.[/p]
 • [p]New York visuals got a little more of a polish surrounding your hotels.[/p]
 • [p]Weekly challenge winners updated in the main menu! Congrats to those who created the nightmare hotels![/p]
 • [p]Plus, a bunch of minor fixes that we won’t bore you with (but they matter, we promise).[/p]
 • [p][/p]
[p]Thanks for all your feedback and support. Keep building, keep dreaming, and enjoy watching your guests with their cucumber slice and clay pamper sessions! [/p][p][/p][p]— The Hotel Architect Team[/p]
