Secrets of Gloomrot Hotfix #9

Greetings, creatures of the night!

Below we’ve outlined a few changes coming to Vardoran with some general fixes, optimizations, and a few console commands that may be useful for server administrators and photographers alike!

This hotfix, set to be launched shortly, contains the following changes:
General Fixes
The “FAQ” and “Bug Report” buttons got worn down due to your diligent bug reporting, so we updated them with new and shiny buttons.

  • Banners hanging from pillars are now correctly updating their colors when using the dye wheel.
  • Fixed an issue where blood hunger did not always activate/deactivate correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where items dropped on castle stairs could end up floating at the wrong height.
  • Fixed an issue where official servers would sometimes not be seen in the Continue Screen. Server statuses should now also appear faster on this screen.
  • Fixed a bug where some servers running standard settings did not get the standard settings tag and icon in the Server List.
  • Ice Block healing has been reduced to 5% from 8%.
Optimizations
• Some minor CPU optimizations.
  • Fixed a major memory leak that could happen in fights with a lot of projectiles.
New Console Commands
We’ve added a few new commands to make life a little easier on server administrators, as well as a long-desired change that will let players with access to the console show and hide the in-game HUD. This will make it much easier to take cinematic pictures of the game environment!

  • Modified the “createjewel” admin command to allow specifying multiple Spell Mods and powers for them.

    Command syntax is: “createjewel ”

  • Added a new admin command to create Legendary Weapons with a specific infused element and specific stats.

    Command syntax is: “createlegendaryweapon ”

  • Added "HideHUD" and "ShowHUD" as new console commands. These are available through the console even if you are not a server admin.

Dev Update #20: Back to Our Black Magic

Greetings, Vampires.

As you may be aware, it’s been a busy time for us in the dark crypts at Stunlock Studios! Unfortunately, here in Sweden, the sun never sets this time of year. Fortunately, that’s given us a very good reason to stay inside and focus on working out all the bugs that have been plaguing us over the past month!

Live reenactment.

Soon we’ll return to our usual tricks, cauldrons bubbling and coffins rattling as we craft new and wonderful horrors for you to explore. Before that, though, we thought it would be nice to check in with our favorite swarm of deadly undead.
Thank you all!
Our most heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you who has returned for Update #1! We were pleasantly surprised by the huge turnout of vampires, and we can't thank you enough!

Focus on the elegant party setup and not us being a bunch of nerds in the background.

“There is nothing better than eating your own artwork.” - Johan “Buckster” Wahlbäck

While the cake was undoubtedly delicious, the greatest delight has been witnessing your reaction to Secrets of Gloomrot. Your feedback and support have been incredibly motivating and are helping us take the next step toward the full release of V Rising with all of you in mind.
Give Us Your Thoughts
Your joy has truly become our joy, and we value your thoughts immensely! Now that you've had a chance to dive into the new content, this is the perfect time to share your opinion with us! Make your mark on V Rising forever, at the mere price of a moment of your time and your dark, lovely, twisted mind.

We've been collecting feedback for a while now, but it's by no means comprehensive, and we’d like to reach out to as many Vampires as possible before really assessing the data. That being said, we’ve seen some pretty interesting trends between the statistics of our Official servers and the survey results thus far.

Here are a few interesting numbers! Please keep in mind that these figures are expected to evolve over time, but for now, let's enjoy them for the sheer fun they bring.

  • 62.9% of survey respondents have never played a Stunlock game other than V Rising! If you're among them, you should try this fascinating game, I believe it’s called “Battlerite”.

See some familiar faces.

  • 24.5% of players answered didn’t find any V Blood encounters particularly frustrating. In response, we will be doubling the minion spawns on all V Blood fights, and V Bloods that don’t spawn minions will now spawn Gorecrusher the Behemoth. (A Joke! Perhaps.)

It’s for him. He gets lonely in his cave.

  • 28.4% of you admitted you would wait until a defender in a raid is vulnerable before trying to steal some loot. Devious.

You know who you are.

  • 43.9% of participants so far have never engaged in PvP. Maybe something new to try? Don’t you want a little more carnage to spice up your undead life?

Press F to pay respect.
The Journey Continues
As always, we understand your curiosity about what lies ahead. We are meticulously planning and paving the way toward our future goals. But what exactly awaits us at our destination? Where are we headed, and when?

In the next phase of V Rising, a grand conclusion to the vampire legend awaits. It signifies the pinnacle of your journey to supremacy and marks the start of your reign as the apex predator of Vardoran. It's the end of your ascension but the beginning of your legend. It serves as a satisfying conclusion to this chapter while leaving room for more adventures ahead.

Wouldn’t a key imply… a door?

With the introduction of Secrets of Gloomrot, we've successfully added layers to the gameplay, refined progression where needed, and really made a better experience to bring players onward. We may soon reach a version of the game that we consider to be 'complete'. However, rest assured that this doesn't mark the end of V Rising's development. The game has room to evolve and grow even in its finished state.

We’re aiming to make the next update V Rising’s full release, the big 1.0, and it will require a similar development timeframe as Gloomrot of around a year. But what does it mean for V Rising to reach its full release, transitioning out of Early Access?

It involves further developing our existing systems to make them more engaging, exploring new possible features, and adding more content. It means providing a satisfying conclusion to the adventure-focused PvE side of the survival experience. We’ll also enhance our internal tools to streamline our work process, which will take time. This investment will pave the way for improved efficiency and a smoother workflow beyond 1.0. That means better content, faster.

And, of course, it means polishing the wicked, tortured hell out of everything until we're truly satisfied. Or at least until our artists are tired enough to let us rip the art assets out of their clawed grasps as they beg us to allow them one more pass.

Smile through the pain, Julia. Smile through the pain.
The Ritual Has Begun
We’re drawing out our magic circles, setting up our candles, and getting to cooking. Though it has been nice to enjoy the release of Secrets of Gloomrot, the next chapter of V Rising has begun, and we must ever move forward. Thank you for joining us, and we hope that you continue to show us incredible patience, dignity, and grace. We take your faith in us seriously and will continue working and doing our very best to ensure V Rising reaches its full potential.

Like you, we are building. Credit to redditor /u/glermz for their creation.

While the Vampire Elders of Stunlock Studios map out our path forward, we will take a break from reporting from the crypt, and we'll be back with exciting updates as soon as we have some juicy news to share. More on all things V Rising now and into the foreseeable future, down on all of our socials below, so make sure you’re keeping an eye on us! Until next time!

Secrets of Gloomrot Hotfix #8

Hello, Vampires!

This is a patch to revert a change from the last hotfix that caused more trouble than it solved.

This hotfix, set to be launched shortly, contains the following changes:

  • Reverted a fix that prevented some AoE casts from being able to hit through floors. We will be implementing a more robust fix for this in the future.

Secrets of Gloomrot Hotfix #7

Hello, thirsty Vampires!

We’re here to quench that thirst for bug blood by slaughtering some particularly annoying ones! This will be our last major round of bug fixing before we turn our attention to focusing on working our magic on the next big update, but keep on sending those reports in, as we’ll certainly still be taking time to address critical bug fixes as they crop up.

PLEASE BE AWARE. Servers that have not updated to the new patch will be incompatible with new client versions, so if you update your game and your private server has not also updated, you will not be able to play on that server until it does. If you wish to play on a server that has not yet been updated, you can revert your settings to the old patch version with the following method.

To revert your client to the previous patch:
  1. Right-click V Rising in your Steam library and select ‘Properties’ in the drop-down menu.
  2. On the left side of the pop-up window, select ‘Betas’
  3. In the menu that it brings you to on the right side, select the drop-down under ‘Select the beta you would like to opt into’ and select 0.6.5.57575_hotfix6.

Important note: When the server you wish to play on updates to the current game version, you will have to revert to be able to play on that server. To do this, follow the earlier steps and then select ‘None’.

Our impending hotfix, set to be launched soon, contains the following improvements:
General Changes
• Various world collision fixes to make it less likely to get stuck in various locations when jumping off ledges.
  • Fixed an issue where servants sometimes could not open doors located on the floor below stairs and would get stuck.
  • Fixed an issue where human form was not automatically added to the vampire power wheel on unlocking.
  • Interacting with the build menu now cancels any active move operation, fixing an issue where structures could be moved and placed simultaneously.
  • Wallpapers can no longer be placed on entrances, making them consistent with their appearances. This should reduce confusion and save on your wallpaper-creating resources.
  • Fixed an issue where patrolling units could sometimes teleport into castles.
  • Fixed an issue where some servants could be interacted with and looted by enemy Vampires.
  • UI for the Castle Heart has been adjusted to provide better clarity on upgrade requirements.
  • Fixed an issue where presets made before the Gloomrot update would attempt to activate the ‘Mad Hunt’ scrambled technology and V Blood settings, causing broken technology trees. These settings will no longer load.
  • Fixed some AoE casts being able to hit through floors.
  • Greatsword now correctly scales physical power when affected by various buffs that boost physical power, such as Warrior Blood.
  • Fixed an issue where legendary infusions did not reset correctly when equipping a non-legendary item. This could cause the infusion effects to temporarily “transfer” to these items, which will no longer happen.
  • Fixed the building behavior of staircases, which allowed them to block ramp entrances in very specific circumstances. These should no longer be able to be built in that way but will have to be manually removed if they currently exist.
  • Fixed an issue where some spell jewel effects could sometimes cause that spell jewel to disappear.
  • Server setting for Vampire “damage received” no longer affects healing.
  • Fixed various issues where servants would not appear in the throne and coffin menus if the servant was too far away from the player.
  • Fixed an issue where in specific places and at certain heights, stairs could be built partially underground.
  • Fixed an issue that would sometimes cause entering specific spaces on some servers to crash the server.
  • Fixed an issue where various ground objects, such as planters, could be used to prevent the placement of explosives.
  • Made it so Unit Spawners such as Tombs and Vermin Nests can be interacted with during the “disable defenses” state, making it so players can no longer use them as lock boxes.
  • Fixed an issue where siege golem stones were affected by gear score, making them increasingly vulnerable to attacks from enemy players the higher their gear score. This should make them significantly more durable.
  • You should now be able to place siege golem stones on various ground objects, such as planters, and on floor tiles surrounded by railings (second-floor castle tiles).
  • Fixed an issue where players could enter an ‘unstaggerable’ state, making them immune to some forms of crowd control.
  • Fixed an issue where castle hearts vanished, and castle building stopped working for very large clans.
General Changes
Soulburn
  • Reduced Soulburn silence duration to 1.5s from 2.5s.
  • Reduced Jewel effect, increasing silence duration to 0.3 - 0.6s from 0.4 - 0.8s.
Void
  • Tweaks to min/max range for the cluster bomb Jewel mod
  • Reduced the max damage for the cluster bomb Jewel mod to 25% from 30%.
