Weaponry #1 - Plank Trap

I placed my first trap on the west side of the lake, where croaking was always the laudest. I had to do it on a hot day so that the fume toads would be hiding from the burning sun. I carefully opened it up, and I’ve placed it down between two large bushes. Then I took out bait. It was a mix of leave and herbs that I know the animals were feeding on. I folded it into a ball and placed it gently in the center of the trap. My design wasn’t perfect, but it had to get the job done. I went back to the safe house full of hope.

I need my serum now, even more than before.

Survivor's Diary #2 - Safe Zone

I don’t know if I was still being chased or not, but I kept on running through the dark forest. I remember being so tired that I couldn’t think about anything else but lay down and sleep right where I was, but my survival instinct told me that doing this would be certain death. Then I saw a shed. At first, I thought it was an illusion created by my confused mind, but I realized it was there. The small wooden house looked like it could fall apart any minute. I kicked the door open and went inside. I made sure I was alone, and right at that moment, I collapsed on the floor.

I must have slept for a long time, and when I opened my eyes, it took me a while to process what I saw. Someone has covered the walls with snippets of paper that had all kinds of information on them. There were animal descriptions, maps of terrain, and even strange flower drawings that I have never seen before. All kinds of stuff cluttered the shed, and the most prominent object inside was a table with some sort of chemical equipment laid out on it. I also found some kind of animal trap, a broken spear with blood on it.

There was also a journal. I picked it up and started reading it right away. With every page, I felt more and more terrified.

Flora #1 - Floral Fern

Finding out that plants can contain serum was a real surprise for me. It was even before I started setting up traps in the forest, that I was hunting Fume Toads with a spear. That day I couldn’t get close to one, no matter what. Attacking them when they were in a group was basically a suicide since I already felt very weak and in immediate need of an injection.

I had to do it in a more sneaky way. I submerged in the stinky, shallow water of wetlands, and only with the top of my head sticking out, I waited. It must have been hours before I realized that my hunt was not going to be successful that day. When I decided to go back to my shelter, it was already pitch black.

After a long wandering in the dark, I tripped over a tree root, fell forward right on my face, and passed out. I have no idea how long I was lying there, but when I opened my eyes, it was already getting light. Then I felt that horrible smell, that I’ve later learned to love.

Green leaves, strangely beautiful blue flowers, and a stench that couldn’t be confused with anything else - a large Floral Fern, the source of life, was right in front of me.
