Palworld's "serious bugs" should be taken care of soon, save data restoration guidance offered

The studio behind the very popular, but also equally controversial Palworld has told players that its development team is aware of and working on fixing the array of “serious bugs” that’ve cropped up in it so far.

From co-op server issues caused by the sheer volume of players who’ve stampeded into the game - which, for better or worse, has come to be know to many as ‘that Pokemon with guns thing’ - to a stat point reset item permanently decreasing your Pal capturing ability, it hasn’t been totally smooth sailing so far for Palworld. Now, following a deluge of bug reports, developer Pocketpair has revealed that its developers are working on fixing the game’s most pressing issues.

In a post on the developer's Discord server, a community manager with the handle ‘Bucky’ has shared a response to the “over 50,000 inquiries” Pocketpair has received from players about various in-game problems with Palworld.

That Pokémon with guns game, Palworld, just sold 4 million copies in 3 days and it isn't slowing down

Former Nintendo president Satoru Iwata outlined a "blue ocean" strategy with selling the Nintendo Wii, which is to say it was designed to tap into the "ocean" of potential customers outside the usual gamer sphere. Well, it turns out there's an untapped blue ocean of people who wanted Pokémon with guns, because the survival-crafting Poké-like Palworld is selling so fast it's putting hot cakes to shame...

Palworld hits 3 million copies sold in 40 hours as it's met with accusations of plagiarism

"Pokemon with guns" game Palworld is quickly racking up sales, though as the game shoots up in popularity, it has been met with accusations of plagiarism.

Late last night, the official Palworld Twitter account shared that the new creature collector has hit three million copies sold in the 40 hours since it was released, an obviously impressive figure, especially when you consider it is available on Game Pass. That's also up from the one million copies sold in just the first eight hours on sale, so clearly the concept of giving a Pokemon a gun is a popular one. It's proving popular on Steam too, as it's now the storefront's sixth highest played game according to concurrent players of all time, beating out games like Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3.

That popularity isn't coming without some controversy though, as the game's release has also been met with accusations of plagiarism. If you just took a quick glance at the game it'd be quite easy to say that Palworld is borrowing from Pokemon, given the creature collecting element where you throw balls at said creatures to capture them. For the most part that generally seems to be where the gameplay similarities end, as it is more of a survival game than it is an RPG like Pokemon, but numerous people online have pointed out how similar some of the creature designs are.

Palworld sold over 1 million copies in just eight hours

Palworld was released during the wee hours today, and within eight hours, it was purchased over one million times.

The game went live on Steam this morning at 3am ET, and players jumped in immediately. As of press time, there are 344,662 concurrent players, with the high today (so far) reaching 370,128. With so many folks hopping online to play the Early Access game, it’s no wonder the servers smoked a bit.

According to the game’s developer, Pocketpair, due to the large number of concurrent players, the servers became unstable, causing some players to experience connection issues. Hopefully, these issues were sorted, but it’s something to keep in mind should more people log in once the workday ends.

Pokémon-with-guns game Palworld is so popular its servers are struggling to keep up

Palworld was obviously destined for success the moment a million games journalists and Twitter users wrote “Pokémon with machine guns”. (Acceptable alternate nicknames include “Eevees with uzis” and “Abras who’ll stab-ya”.) Having finally launched into Early Access on Steam and Game Pass this week, that prophecy has rung true as the monster-catching survival game has caught (ha, ha) so many players that its servers are struggling to handle the load.
