Attributes? What are those? πŸ€”
Greetings, Shifters! ✊🐲
We think that a fun RPG lets you customize and specialize your character in different ways. So when developing Coridden, we wanted to find ways for players to do just that. Instead of just passively getting better when gaining a level, we added an attribute system where you can choose what your character should become better at. In this update, we want to dive a bit more into how attributes work in our game!

The five attributes to choose from β€” Power, Fragmentation, Stabilization, Battery, and Element β€” each one enhances a different aspect of your character. Whenever a player levels up their gauntlets, they'll gain 2 attribute points to freely assign to any of the 5 attributes. There's also possible to find additional attribute points scattered around the world, so remember to explore, and your efforts will be rewarded ✨

The attributes give various passive upgrades to your characters, both to your human and your monster form:
🐲 Power β€” increases physical melee damage;
🐲 Fragmentation β€” increases physical projectile damage and status effect’s damage over time (for example, if you manage to poison an enemy it deals more damage);
🐲 Stabilization β€” improves health and reduces the chance to get staggered by the enemy;
🐲 Battery β€” increases max energy and energy recharge rate;
🐲 Element β€” increases elemental damage and ability power (which in turn improves some active skills).

Attributes are not only important for these passive bonuses, however, as some skills might benefit and be improved from certain attributes β€” so you can improve skills by upgrading attributes!

Do you upgrade your gauntlet's power to increase physical melee damage? Or do you focus on fragmentation to improve your projectile physical damage and damage over time? The choice is yours.

Stop by our stream during Steam Next Fest! πŸŽ‰
Greetings, Shifters! ✊🐲
Today is the start of the February Steam Next Fest! For those of you who don’t know, it’s a digital festival dedicated to showing upcoming games and demos during a whole week. There are so many interesting games featured, and of course, we're thrilled that our game is one of them! πŸŽ‰

As you already might know, you can play Coridden by yourself, but inviting friends or your significant other can make the experience even better πŸ₯° We have many fond memories of playing with each other, family and friends and want to encourage more people to take time doing just that. That’s why, when developing our own game, we wanted to find ways for players to actively support each other through meaningful interactions and communication. Our co-op riding mechanic is one example, where players can become a stronger unit and overcome environmental obstacles together!

To celebrate both co-op gaming and being in Steam Next Fest, we decided to do a livestream where we will play the demo together in co-op, talk about the game and answer any questions you might have! Make sure to stop by Coridden's Steam page tomorrow, at 3 PM CET to get to know us and the game even more!

Also, as an extra bonus, there will be a chance to win a key for a game from our Publisher's library πŸ˜‰

We can't wait to have a chat with you, hope to see you on the livestream!

A Close Look at Combat! πŸ’₯
Greetings, Shifters! ✊🐲
In Coridden, we wanted the combat system to not only test players' reflexes and fast decision-making, but also to encourage communication and collaboration among team members. The different items and abilities can make the battle better or worse, depending on what kind of enemy they face and how fast they react.Β
Here are four aspects we kept in mind to create the combat challenging in Coridden:

🐲 Reacting
responding to threats, taking actions, and controlling your character;
🐲 Targeting
analyzing enemies, planning out take-down order, using the right tools;
🐲 Managing energy (a resource to perform attacks and certain skills)
balancing defense vs attack, risk vs safety;
🐲 Playing as a team
talking to each other to eliminate the right targets, managing energy and targets between players, helping each other in need, making use of everyone's strengths & tools, compensating for each other's weaknesses.

During combat, players can use melee and ranged attacks depending on their equipment, and choose between light (faster) or charged (slower, but more powerful) attacks. Charged attacks are extra useful when the enemy is blocking attacks or has a lot of damage reduction!

There are several ways for players to avoid attacks or create some distance between them and their enemies, such as dodge, jump or sprint. Dodging makes you invincible against most attacks for a short while, and doesn't cover as much distance to keep you in close proximity for counter-attacks. By jumping you can avoid attacks that travel along the ground, and it also opens up for airborne attacks.

Players can change their form at will to use skills available to either their human or beast forms. Every attack and active skills costs energy, so switching between forms is essential to keep dealing damage!

A teammate in a beast form, or a conjure, can be mounted. Attacks from enemies won't hurt the human riding, only the beast will take damage. If the player in beast form loses consciousness or gets hit by certain attacks, the riding player will be knocked off. Some skills let the rider and the mounted player to interact in special ways, while some of the passive abilities can give extra benefits while riding or being ridden.

Some creatures can grab or hold onto enemies by either attacking them with a powerful attack or by running into them quickly. Sometimes an enemy can dodge or block a grab attempt, though.Β It's easier to grab enemies who've just been hit, are staggered and hurt.Β Other players can also attack the enemy that has been grabbed, both from the ground andΒ while riding.

We hope the style of combat in Coridden got you excited! Remember that you can now play the DEMO on Steam!

Until next time!

Action RPG with Co-op and monsters? - How we came up with the idea!
Greetings, Shifters! ✊🐲
As you probably know, we recently launched a DEMO. Yes, you can now play the DEMO for Coridden on Steam! We encourage you to share your feedback, either here on the forum or on our Discord. It's an invaluable help ❀️

Meanwhile, we really wanted to share with you the reasons we decided to create an action-packed RPG filled with monsters and co-op. Why this type of game and not any other?

Before we started making Coridden, we consumed a LOT of co-op games together, especially all kinds of action and RPG games. At some point, we felt as if we had played every title in the genre possible, and we wondered "Why aren't there more?". Valle, who has been programming as a hobby since his late teens, was inspired to start a new project. And he invited me to participate in it too 😊

We definitely wanted it to include meaningful co-op, in the sense of not just running side by side, but also interactingΒ withΒ each other. The mechanic of driving the warthog in Halo together came to mind as that type of co-op interaction we wanted to include. But I really love animals (especially horses) and PokΓ©mon is one of my all-time favorite game series, so I suggested switching out the vehicle to animals instead πŸ‘‰πŸ‘ˆ Valle agreed, but he didn't want to play as β€œjust” an animal. He wanted to play as a fierce beast!Β As we argued about who was going to be the beast and who was going to be the human, we realized it would be more fun to just alternate between both. And that's how the shapeshifting and co-op riding ideas were born! πŸŽ‰

Originally, we only had one beast, and it would certainly be a good game with that focus as well. But because we both liked different creatures, we wanted to make many different types.Β We ended up with multiple beast, each type having a unique base move set. We also left room for variations on their stats and looks, and made sure they can be customized with abilities and attacks, but that feels like it deserves its own post πŸ˜…

We hope you liked our story. And who knows, maybe you'll get inspired to create your game as well πŸ˜‰

Coridden is an action RPG with shapeshifters in which you can ride your friends

The one great weapon in my arsenal as mercurial uncle and cousin to several infant humans is the timeless game of Horsey. You know - when you get down all fours and offer to give the kid a ride around the sitting room. It's murder on the old kneecaps, but as any shrewd parental tactician knows, Horsey is a game with a sting in its tail (making this a kind of scorpion Horsey, I guess). The horse in the game of Horsey is free to choose the direction of travel, even if it's somewhere the rider would rather not go. Towards the bath or dinner table, for instance. Towards the dentist, if needed.
