Devlog №2: I Found a Kettle, Time to Build a Power Grid Out of It!
Hey there again, everyone!
We have a big year ahead of us: with our eyes set firmly on releasing the game this year in Early Access, the team continues to work hard on I Am Future. This work has already borne fruit: we released a demo earlier this week to let players get their hands on the game early and gather feedback. One of the mechanics this demo is built around is disassembly. In today's devlog entry, we would like to tell you more about it.

Luckily, since you’re supposedly the only human on the entire planet, you will experience no shortage of resources. In I Am Future, everything around you is up for grabs, including all kinds of household appliances from the long-gone civilization.

First, let’s talk about how we came up with adding the disassembly mechanic to I Am Future. In a survival game, the player constantly needs various resources for crafting and building. Our team wants to breathe life into the process of resource gathering and ensure that each disassembly feels like a small adventure rather than a tedious chore. Our goal is to make each mini-puzzle challenging yet intuitive enough, so players will have the chance to learn a little bit more about electronics along the way.
So how does disassembly actually work? Each appliance has parts that are attached to the frame. You rotate it, locating detachable parts and removing them in a specific order. You can’t remove the lid without unscrewing it, can you? It’s important to point out that, by disassembling an appliance, you might get both basic and unique materials that otherwise would be hard to come across.
Sometimes you will be in for a surprise too. Who knows what an ancient microwave may contain—a hidden stash or even a tiny civilization that has developed in a dried-up drop of soup?

We are currently working on quite an extensive list of disassemblable appliances. Among them: a TV set, a flashlight, a fan, a vacuum cleaner, a game controller and Christmas lights. The game is a story-driven experience, so some items will have stories to tell of what had happened to them before they ended up in the player’s hands.
