Our latest Victory At Sea Atlantic update is here on our First Look Branch, bringing new strategic land targets to attack by sea and air, alongside enhanced visuals for a more cinematic experience! This update expands your tactical options while making battles more intense and immersive than ever.

In order to play this update go into your library, right click on the name Victory At Sea Atlantic and click Properties. under BETAS, select “First Look” there is no password required. We want to keep it on the First Look Branch for a short period before rolling it onto the main Branch as it is very big and while we have extensively tested it we want your opinions before we move forward!

Cinematic Visual Upgrades – Improved effects, lighting, and details bring battles to life.

These updates open up more ways to wage war across the Atlantic, reinforcing your fleet’s importance in the fight for dominance. Will you cripple enemy supply lines, dominate the skies, or go straight for their strongholds? The choice is yours, Commander!

Gameplay:

  • Amphibious assaults and air raids may be played in combat view.
  • Added the Bristol Beaufighter fighter/torpedo bomber.
  • Added the De Havilland Mosquito fighter/bomber.
  • Newfoundland begins under British control.
  • Non-landed assault troops join a territory's defence garrison after a territory is captured.
  • New landing craft may not be researched before amphibious assaults are unlocked.
  • Enemy navies may begin attempting amphibious assults earlier.
  • Improved enemy navy amphbious assault fleet AI.
  • Gunfire is more audible at long range.
  • Improved panning behaviour on the minimap.
  • Purely aircraft vs submersibble combats do not count as an ambush.
  • Fleets ignore weather-based speed movement penalties when outside the combat screen.
  • Objectives consider all destroyed enemy structures to be at 0% health.
  • Added a confirmation popup when leaving combat with the toggle key.
  • The maximum height at which a torpedo bomb arms is more lenient for flights in formation.
  • The flight altitude gauge is more accurate.
  • The summary panel only shows ship/aircraft focus targets that are in the player's navy.
  • Clicking the land button on the bridge screen applies the order to the whole aircraft squadron.
  • Improved convoy zig-zag behaviour in combat.
  • Convoy escorts are better placed at the start of combat.
  • Limited the proximity to enemy ships at which submarines can be placed at the start of combat.
  • Reduced cargo ship armament.
  • Added huff-duff as a research project, allowing small ships to detect enemies at long ranges.
  • Removed radar from German U-boats.
  • Surfaced submersibles are harder to spot at night and in poor weather.
  • Increased research times on the TBF/TBM-3 Avenger research projects.



Visuals:

  • Improved post-processing effects.
  • Improved the motion of crashing aircraft.
  • Improved aircraft propeller rotation.
  • Added a visible torpedo projectile to the Fairey Swordfish.


Bug fixes:

  • Fixed a bug that could cause destroyed aircraft flights to linger on the map.
  • Stopped flights sometimes disappearing upon transfer between airfields.
  • Prevented structures potentially staying in the destroyed state after repairs.
  • Ensured all ships load in the correct positions when loading a save in combat.
  • Prevented camera trying to focus on distant ships during an aircraft-only combat.
  • Flight loss and friendly fleet sabotage use the correct audio clips.
  • Stopped alert popups appearing during the start combat stage.
  • Fixed text formatting on the loading screen for certain alphabets.
  • Submersible tankers are buildable in shipyards.
  • Aicraft flight icons don't show the construction icon when no longer under construction.
  • Fixed a case of a combat ending before torpedo bombs hit their target.
  • Prevent Germany from researching the allied planes research project.
  • Fixed the position of the power station in Bergen.
  • Flight stats still show on the flight button tooltip while the shift key is being held.
  • Torpedo tubes can reload outside combat.
  • Prevented some runway-based planes being used as cruiser/battleship spotters.
  • Fixed a bug potentially stopping time passing normally outside combat.
  • The Richelieu-class battleship's rear turrets use the correct weapon stats.
  • Stopped retreating planes being damaged in a combat after the end cutscene.
  • Anti-air coastal structure names change correctly after upgrading.
  • Stopped landing ships repeatedly taking zero damage from hits after the first.
  • Squadrons in circle formation can be rotated properly in combat setup.

Gameplay:

  • Improved enemy scouting behaviour, and made combats more likely when fleets encounter enemies.
  • Rebalanced fleet damage in autoresolved combats.
  • Submersibles can no longer fire their main guns through their conning towers.
  • Updated the tutorial to include some newer mechanics.
  • Miscellaneous performance optimisations.


Bug fixes:

  • Fixed a bug where submerged submersibles would load from a save as surfaced.
  • Prevented fleets from taking a route through the English Channel when attempting to avoid it.
  • Fixed a bug that could stop fleets attempting to capture a territory.
  • Troop labels refresh correctly after autoresolving an amphibious assault combat.
  • The attacking landing craft will not decide to automatically retreat in an amphibious assault.
  • Stopped some incorrect German alert dialogue audio playing.
  • Stopped audio from cutting out in combat at high timescales.


Visuals:

  • Stopped the Richelieu-class battleship's propeller rotating on the wrong axis.
  • The Boulton Paul Defiant's wheel struts retract in flight.

Jump in and out of Combat view at will!

Get ready for an exciting new feature in Victory At Sea Atlantic - It's been a tough update to get working so we greatly value your feedback on this one. Press the M key and enter the combat view on any ship you select on the Campaign View!

Now you can check on that convoy at any time, or bear down on the enemy from just the right angle.

Gameplay:

  • The M key may be used to toggle between the bridge and combat views when a fleet is selected.
  • Increased the distance at which two fleets will initiate a battle.
  • Increased submersible starting distance in combat.
  • Increased enemy ships' detection bonus against player subs.
  • Torpedoes are automatically spotted at extremely close range.
  • Improved flight bombing AI when using reduced bombing payloads.
  • Moved the Axis starting airfield to Cologne in new campaigns.
  • Improved patrol behaviour of enemies in single-fleet mode.


Bug fixes:

  • Prevented a case of an entirely submersible-vs-submersible combat starting.
  • Fixed a bug where a normal campaign could not be started after starting a single-fleet campaign and returning to the menu.


UI:

  • Added a display showing the total ammunition of a ship.
  • Added colour-coding to the formation icons.


Visuals:

  • Fixed an error with the Bearn-class carrier model.
  • Flags rotate better according to the wind direction and the ship movement.
  • Reduced fog density in clear weather.

Thank you as always for the positive and constructive feedback! This build adds more ships and planes to the mix, as well as other fixes and general improvements. We are hard at work on some bigger updates, but they take longer to finalise! We will keep you posted on this as we go!

Gameplay:

  • Added the Queen Elizabeth- and Queen Mary-class troop transports.
  • Added the Dornier Do 17 bomber.
  • Added the Messerschmitt Me 410 fighter/bomber.
  • Improved chances for aircraft to escape in auto resolved combats before being shot down.
  • AA weapons split their fire better in auto resolved combats.
  • Passive ship traits are displayed alongside the unlocked special action buttons.
  • Reduced the damage radius of exploding oilers.
  • Fleet defend orders do not show lines on the map for unselected fleets.
  • The Ruler-class research project doesn't need the Bogue-class as a prerequisite.


Bug fixes:

  • Stopped AI ordering single ships from incomplete convoys to deliver supplies.


Other:

  • Added the option to scale the UI below 1x if playing at lower than the minimum supported resolution.
