Warlander - End of Open Beta & Release Information

Greetings Warlander!

We are very happy to finally share the details that you have all been waiting for, in this Warlander news update.

Over the past couple of months, you have provided valuable support and feedback throughout the Open Beta and have shown impressive patience while waiting for news, so to honor that, rather than share a wall of sentiment of how appreciative we are, we will get right into the details. Our appreciation is shared in detail at the end. ːsteamthumbsupː

END OF OPEN BETA
The Open Beta will come to an end this Friday, November 18 (5PM JST / 9AM CET). We wanted to give you guys a chance to play a few more rounds before we close the Beta, and for those of you that haven’t played 25 games yet, this is your opportunity to get in and secure your Open Beta rewards. We will be hosting a Happy Hour on Thursday Evening (CET), where we will be jumping in with you guys for some final slashes and bashes. Stay tuned to Discord Events for details.

As a reminder, Open Beta progress will be wiped.

CONTINUED PLAY – CLOSED BETA
We had originally planned to not have any down-time after the Open Beta, but that will unfortunately not be the case.

For those of you (like us 😊) that cannot wait for the PC Release to play again, we’re working on setting up a Closed Beta for mid December to collect feedback, suggestions, and bug reports on the PC Release build. Stay tuned for participation details.

EARLY ACCESS
We have decided to drop the Early Access phase and go directly into the official PC Release. The reason for this is that we chose to dedicate the time and effort that it would take to set up the Early Access version of Warlander and put that time and effort into the release. Not much changes with this, as you will still have the opportunity to test and provide feedback on monetization and other core features at release.

PC RELEASE
Warlander will release on PC on the 24th of January 2023. The reason for the push into January is that essentially, you guys were too good at your job. 😊 Meaning, we received so much fantastic feedback, suggestions, and bug reports around topics that we want to consider for release, that we had to take a step back and reevaluate the timing. We’re very excited to be at the home stretch and can’t wait to officially release Warlander to the world.

CONSOLE RELEASE
Our Gen 9 Console (PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series X|S) Release is now officially planned for April.

OPEN BETA REWARDS RECAP

We appreciate your patience as you wait for news about the end of the Open Beta and the start of the Early Access Phase. We had hoped to have the Early Access start date to you by now, but as we have mentioned in the chat, we are still working on finalizing the date internally.

Why are you still working on the date?

What exactly are you doing?
We have been prioritizing the topics that we want to complete before Early Access with most of this coming from community feedback. There are of course improvements and additions that were already planned, before your feedback, so we are finalizing the priority of these topics now, and already working them into our Early Access build.

So… when is Early Access?
As most of you have been here with us from day 1, you know that we are doing our best to be as honest and transparent as possible, as well as playing Warlander daily, and often with you, so it is killing us to not be able to share a date with you yet. With that said, we promise you that as soon as we know, you will know, and whatever the timing is, we do all of this with the best interest of Warlander, and the community in mind.

Where is the news about the Open Beta Rewards?
We have completed the Open Beta rewards bundle, which we are excited to share with you. Currently, we are finalizing the accompanying art assets, and then we will share the Rewards with you all.

This includes improvements to matchmaking, as well as various bug fixes based on your collective feedback.

Matchmaking System
We have implemented a system that divides players into armies based on each player's past performance.
  • Teams will be divided based on the winning percentage of the past 10 rounds.
  • This is meant to help addresses team composition.

5-army battles now open once every 19 minutes instead of being always open.
  • After 19 minutes have elapsed, the mode is opened for 1 minute.
  • The layout of the Game Mode selection has been adjusted accordingly.
  • The time until 5-army battles open matchmaking is indicated on the Play button and on the game mode selection button, when a 5 Army Battle is selected as the game mode.
Character Actions
  • Fixed Sprint being interrupted by some voice macros or setting markers.
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed an issue with Lunge Slash passing through walls.
  • Fixed an issue where the travel distance for Lunge Slash Lv5 was shorter than Lv4.
  • Fixed an issue where the amount of damage from Magic Napalm was different than indicated.
  • Fixed an issue where skill EXP values were displayed incorrectly when skills were acquired on the results screen.
  • Fixed an issue where the animation of power bombs was impacted by lag.
  • Changed call timing of game start API. Server load reduction support has been implemented.
  • Fixed a bug that caused parties to break up on rare occasions.

Our next balance and improvement patch is now available!
This includes balance adjustments, as well as some improvements based on your feedback, including adding a Report Player button to the Support screen, adding an option to turn ON/OFF camera shake, adding server selection to the options menu (players may now select the server they wish to prioritize for matchmaking - Please keep in mind that this may affect queue times), and title acquisition cutscenes can now be skipped.

Improvements to the 2-Army Battle Map
Previously the catapult area and the central area were connected, easily allowing an army that captured the central area to also capture the catapult shortly afterward, making it difficult for opposing armies to mount a comeback.

Therefore, based on community feedback, as well as data obtained from the OBT, we have now separated the central area and the catapult area topographically and added new towers to the catapult routes.

We believe that this clarifies the role of each route and changes how each route influences the overall battle. Please give the map changes a try and let us know what you think.

Game Rules
  • Added a new mechanic that determines the spawn point of the Cataclysmic Idol based on the battle situation and player locations.
  • In order to increase the number of Valor Points earned by Catapult operators, we have increased the amount of Valor Points gained when destroying Ballistas and Cannons.
  • New objectives for each Squad Role
  • Assault Squads: Damage an enemy Core (more Valor Points received than Spec Ops Squads and Castle Guard that do the same)
  • Spec Ops Squads: Damage an enemy Core/defeat enemies near the catapult/defeat enemies around your Castle
  • Castle Guard Squads: Defeat enemies around the castle (more Valor Points received than Assault and Spec Ops Squads that do the same)
  • Adjusted the number of Valor Points earned from 800 to 1000 for each unit mission completed by Special Ops Squads.
  • Added a feature that allows a player to instantly Redeploy after a certain amount of time has passed from their death.
  • Fixed an issue in 2-Army Battles where players could earn more Valor points than usual by destroying and rebuilding the ladder attached to the wooden fort on the stone bridge.


Robot
  • Sped up melee attack slightly
  • Machine gun damage increased from 20 to 30
  • Cannon damage increased from 60 to 100


Hymn of War
  • Shortened casting time.


UI/HUD
  • Improved HUD for Core HP display at the top center of the screen.
  • Added an animation for when the Core is struck by an attack.
  • Added a button on the support screen that leads to the Report Player page.
  • Added an option to turn ON/OFF camera shake.
  • Added server selection to the options menu.
  • Users may select the server they wish to prioritize for matchmaking.
  • Title acquisition cutscenes can now be skipped.
  • Added description of Servant effects in the Servant tutorial.
  • Added tutorial for Perk levels for Perks attached to equipment
  • Rerolled Perks are now guaranteed to be different from the Perk that was rerolled.
  • Added Emote sample playback function on the Emote menu screen.
  • Number and price of aura crystals available for purchase have been adjusted.
  • Changed standard price setting from 500 Silvings to 1000 Silvings
  • Reversed camera controls selected in options are disregarded when using the mouse.
  • Other minor UI/HUD improvements.


Bug Fixes
  • Fixed a bug that caused a Character's style to be the same as the previously deployed character's when redeploying.
  • Fixed a bug where the English skill descriptions for Lunge Slash and Magic Napalm were different from their actual effects.
  • Fixed a bug in which key configuration changes were not reflected in the voting HUD, basic control HUD, or key prompts.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented players from boarding a siege-weapon when they were disconnected from the network.
  • Fixed a rare issue where siege-weapons destroyed while on fire could no longer be built.
  • Fixed a bug that sometimes prevented users from clicking the EULA approval button.
  • Improved stability of full-screen mode behavior on monitors of sizes other than 16:9.
