Sengoku Winter Wonderland

Winter in Japan is a mesmerising time of year when the country reveals its unique beauty. From December to February, Japan wraps itself in a chilly blanket of ice and snow and offers a remarkable variety of winter landscapes.

The mountains of Japan shine in brilliant white in winter. In the villages, the season creates a dignified and picturesque mood.

The traditional temples and shrines, covered in snow, lend the surroundings a distinctive atmosphere.

Overall, winter in Japan is a time of contrasts and the harmony of quiet beauty and sublime grandeur is equally enchanting.

A small celebration - and a big commitment

Dear players,

Since the launch in August, so many people have played the game, leaving us humbled by its popularity. Your trust - a hard thing to get nowadays for an Early Access title - makes us want to work even harder to deliver you the best game we can about Feudal Japan.

After our launch, we worked hard to send out updates quickly - having many players led to an incredible amount of helpful feedback. You shared thoughts on improvements, bugs, and what you hoped for in the game's future. We did our best to address these swiftly, enjoying the immediate feedback with each change.

Now, we want to take things to another level.

We don’t only want to add small patches and bugfixes. We want to rework some of the fundamental systems we feel are not working well enough. We want to add entirely new systems and content you’d expect in a game of our scope and ambition. We want to create excitement between each update, and you will know that whatever is coming, will be BIG.

With this, we are happy to announce that our second big update after farming, called “Kintsugi” is coming in Q1 2024.

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by glueing it together with lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. The philosophy behind it is embracing flaws and imperfections, considering breakage as part of the object's history rather than something to disguise.

More information to follow soon. However, what do you think will make it to this update?

Have fantastic holidays and a great new year 2024!

Adding a single late arrival:
Fixed
• Fix quest markers not loading when multiple objectives use the same marker.

Sengoku Dynasty - Farming management and tree planting

Youkuso!

You can now assign workers to fields in the Jobs menu so they can grow their own crops. In response to a popular request, we’ve added the ability to plant trees and other flora to enhance the beauty and uniqueness of your villages. Additionally, you can use a shovel to permanently remove foliage and other resources. Have fun – we're excited to see what you will create!
Patch Notes -- Version 0.2.1.0

SYSTEMS
Farming integrated in village management.
Fields are now workplaces. If you assign a villager to a field, it becomes unavailable for your personal use.
Crops will grow on the number of slots your villager’s effectiveness permits. Crops will disappear and provide resources on season change (regardless of growth stage).
Assigned villagers attend fields, animating actions like planting, watering, or fertilising.

General farming improvements.
Weeds now grow along plants, instead of appearing instantly. You can weed them out as soon as they appear. To spice it up, we have made it, so they appear at different times for different crops, and grow at different rates.
The field slot selection highlight has been improved visually.
Individual crops now have some small random offset for a more realistic look.
The paddy field water surface has been improved visually – now you can see cultivation, seeds, and fertilisation decals underneath.
We have added small arrows to the crop growth progress bar to indicate its speed. Fertilise, weed out or water fields to speed up the growth.
Crop growth has been synchronised with sleeping.

Planting
You can now use a hoe to plant up to 125 (capped for performance reasons, we might set it higher later) plants inside your village radius, choosing from a variety of trees and smaller bushes or flowers. The selection of plants is constrained for now. Expect it to be expanded significantly.
3D/MAP
• Added new furniture (sitting and dining arrangements).
 • Adjusted shovels' position in the composting station so that they don’t levitate.
 • Changed the herbs' colour to be less vibrant.
 • Added new textures and materials for a simple village gate.
ANIMATION/CHARACTERS
• Implemented a Half-Bow model and animations (tier 2 bow).
 • Adjusted how NPCs choose furniture and other places to interact with – their behaviour should now make more sense and be more precisely tied to their occupation.
 • Improved the female idle animations.
 • Updated some NPC models.
 • Adjusted the camera position when walking up and down.
 • Added a weeding animation for field interaction.
SFX

TECH/TECH ART
• Reduced the foliage meshes polygon count to improve performance.
 • Implemented soft references for NPCs and players’ clothing to improve performance.
 • Simplified water and river meshes to improve performance.
 • Disabled navigational data on lakes so that NPCs don’t walk there.
 • Optimised the Map UI.
 • Removed unused fonts.
UI
• Added village radius visualisation – now you can precisely see where your village ends, and where neutral villages start.
 • Untracked quest markers are now visible constantly in the world, on the compass, and on the map so that you don’t miss any objective. For those playing from a save game, please be aware it’ll work only for newly activated quests. You can still track a selected quest, and it will have a flashier icon.
 • Added a new game executable icon.
 • Added a worker number requirement to Special Project workplace – now each Special Project precisely shows you how many people need to work on it at the same time to progress the construction.
 • Changed the loading screen quote attribution from Kenko to Honen. Honen was quoted by Kenko, hence the mistake.
 • The light-coloured UI theme has been made more contrasting. More UI improvements are about to come.
 • Various Dynasty Management UIs have been improved to make them organised.
 • Improved player village icon list – it will be easier to differentiate them from neutral villages. Additionally, we removed the shadows from village icons.
 • Added seasonal requirements to Production Slots – used for farming recipes only for now.
 • Added status effects for workplaces – the Jobs tab will now inform you if a workplace lacks a worker, a tool, or if a field is in use by the player. More statuses (and tooltips) to come.
 • Modified how workplace names are displayed in the Jobs Tab and Workplace Popup. Further improvements are pending.
BALANCE/SETUP
• Improved the foliage removal. You’ll now get resources after removing a plant or deposit (slightly less than when collecting them with a proper tool). Note that deposits respawn, so permanent removal may not be worth it in the long term.
 • The Composting Station produces Fertiliser Buckets instead of fertiliser to streamline fertilisation in farming.
 • Added the Monastery Bell Tower which allows fast travel. Visit the abbot for afternoon tea.
 • Various consumable recipes and items balance improvements, including restoring Parsley, Garlic, and Wasabi recipes to Forager's Hut. You can forage them, or you can farm them – the choice is yours.
 • Players will now automatically equip the first axe they craft.
 • Added Wood Storage access furniture to the Brewery.
 • The “fetch meals” quest in Aratani now accepts all tiers of vegetable meals.
 • Unlocked tea drink recipe – enjoy your tea!
 • Unlocked Iron Shovel (tier 2 shovel) recipe.
 • Improved empty exterior segments ghosts and real parts to look better. Now real empty parts fade with distance, so your wood storages will look better when running around with a hammer.
 • Improved house furniture categories – new categories are tables, sitting arrangements, light sources, and fireplaces.
 • Removed the late game cutscene.
 • Lowered the Fishing Net price.
 • Improved Farming Trader in Aratani to spawn more Seed Bags – they are spawned randomly each season, and some of them are the only way to grow some crops.
FIXES
• Fixed items having reduced freshness while being manufactured on season change – now new items will show up fresh in your storage.
 • Fixed MAX button in Production Slots not working when production amount was zero – now the button should work as intended - always maximising the production when tools and input items allow.

 • Fixed player not being able to skip Special Project completion cutscenes.
 • Fixed the player getting stuck when opening the radial menu of any crafting station while running.

Farming management and tree planting on Public Stage
What is Public Staging?
It is the modus operandi of working with a second version of the game, on which new patches and updates can be applied and tested before they are integrated into the regular live version of the game. This means that one or more updates can first be tested before they are made available to all players in Early Access.
How to join the public staging?
Some of you probably have not done this before, so we have a small guide:

Prerequisite:
You must have Sengoku Dynasty in your library – obviously.

The procedure
 • Open your game library.
 • Right click on Sengoku Dynasty.
 • Open properties.
 • Select the tab "BETAS".*
 • Enter this password into the field below the drop-down menu: 6RmK07O5em39LFLj1e4OvZGlrQ7OqI
 • Click on "CHECK CODE".
 • Use the drop-down menu and select “releasecandidate“. This is the public stage version.
 • Click on "Close".
 • Steam should now download this version of the game.

IMPORTANT! PLEASE SAVE YOUR GAME ON THE LIVE VERSION AS A BACKUP COPY BEFORE ACCESSING THE PUBLIC STAGING BUILD!

This is merely a precautionary measure in the very unlikely event that anything goes wrong!
The saves can be found under this path:

%USERPROFILE%/AppData/Local/SengokuDynasty/Saved/

Copy the entire folder into a zip file or store a copy somewhere else on your hard drive.

*Steam labels all those builds as "betas” even if they are technically not betas, don’t let it confuse you!
