Kintsugi Q&A Part 1 - Real-time Production, Zen Gardens, Season Length

Youkoso!

Thank you for all your questions and please continue to ask them! We are currently working on implementing a few of the topics in the Kintsugi update, while some of them will be tackled in future updates. If you haven't received an answer to your question, it doesn't mean it won't be addressed to. However, our focus right now is on what's coming soon. So, let's dive into your questions:
Will the production mechanics change to real time?
Production mechanics are something that we are very much working on right now. We launched Early Access with seasonal production with the assumption this will make the game less stressful and less focused on micro-management and more about chilled turn-based mechanics. It proved to be a wrong decision, but that’s what EA is for – to take some risks and experiment and listen to your feedback. Additionally, this system resulted in AI having a harder time playing their working animations, giving a very unfun vibe of nothing happening in the village.

A better AI system as well as daily production mechanics are being implemented. Production and consumption will happen every day, at the end of the workday.

Regarding the real time production, whether we move from single-day turn change to multiple times in the day remains to be seen – this will be determined after the release of the Kintsugi update. There is a little difference between Daily Production and Real-Time Production, just instead of getting eg. 20 planks after a workday, workers will produce 2 planks every 1 hour 10 times per day. Basically, the intensity of the production will coincide with the intensity of the game itself, so we don’t want to overdo it – yet.
Will new decorations or furniture be added with the update? More decorations for the outdoors?
Yes! For example, new workstations, gongs, barrels, and baskets, providing new interesting visuals and container options. We will probably add more decorations before the update is finished, but at the same time we try to prioritize things that are useful for gameplay. We will try to reuse these elements – like weapons – as decorations too.
When can we expect to see Zen gardens? Will it be possible to move large stones for Zen gardens?
We will add an option for you to put loose stones like how you can now put plants in your village. Some Zen-garden specific assets will be added, allowing you to start making your own compositions, with more assets coming.
Will it be possible to adjust the number of days until the seasons change?
Yes! We are expanding on the game settings with a custom game mode. You will get a lot of the most important settings now, and more to come for you to fiddle with for the best game experience.
When will there be achievements?
We are thinking of adding them in 1.0 but if there is a general need for them sooner, we might put in some of them – but we don’t plan to add them to the Kintsugi update yet.
Will I be able to play my old saves after the Kintsugi Update?
Unfortunately, we do not recommend continuing your old saves in the Kintsugi update. We always try to keep backward compatibility if feasible, but Kintsugi will include some deep reworks of main systems. Therefore, we cannot guarantee a save game compatibility in all aspects of the game. We will try to keep those older saves loading, but there may be some issues. The good news is that with the new setting you will be able to push the progress faster this time if you don’t want to follow the new progression or start from scratch. Additionally, we will create an additional branch with an older version of the game if you want to continue your last save.
Will there be more recipes that require intermediate steps to produce them?
Yes, papermaking will become a much more elaborate process with a paper beating table, a paper press, soaking pools, and drying racks. We also plan on making other processes even more realistic and historically accurate. In general, there will be a few more intermediate resources, some new production buildings, crafting stations, and workstations, while the technology chains are going to be more complex.

Kintsugi Update Spotlight 4: Daily Production

Get ready for a small revolution - starting with the Kintsugi update, your villagers will produce and consume resources each day. As time passes through the season, your workers will provide you with surplus resources once per day.

Until now, the game focused on you, as the player character, supplementing any goods that your Dynasty couldn't produce fast enough, with Dynasty production happening at the end of the season.

With the new progression update mentioned in the previous spotlight, you'll need more villagers (recruitable from the start). The more people you have, the more they consume, and the more you need to produce to satisfy their needs. We want you to have more control over Dynasty production by making it happen more often. This allows you to react to stock shortages faster, adapt to situations more easily, and receive more feedback on your production chains.

Daily Dynasty Production comes with a few smaller changes and features:

AI improvements: Workers are more responsive, ensuring they all have tasks when assigned. AI improvements extend to other NPCs, making them behave more realistically.

Workplace shortcuts: New workplaces are easier to understand and come with shortcuts on the Interaction UI to see current assignments and open the job popup directly.

Removing the efficiency modifier based on happiness: The efficiency of your workers will be more reliable without constant small changes due to happiness. A major rework of the Happiness system is in progress.

Consolidation and simplification of workplaces in buildings: Workplaces are moved to corresponding furniture instead of being in the production building, making gameplay smoother.

Removing workplace assignment for the Player Character: You, as the player character, won't be able to participate in Dynasty Production anymore. You can still craft and produce in real-time.

Various smaller Quality of Life improvements: Changes include removing the season change popup, marking the end of work on the time-of-day bar, and improving workplace status notifications.

Superkami is busy, and these are not the only production changes. More big changes are coming, so stay tuned! Let us know your thoughts on the above changes!

Kintsugi Update Spotlight #3 - Reworked Progression System

With the Kintsugi update, we would like to introduce to you a complete rework of the Dynasty Progression system in the game. Dynasty Progression affects things like quests, Special Projects, unlocking new recipes, as well as a Dynasty Legend levelling system. We had several goals in mind when designing those improvements:

Improved Onboarding: Our goal was to make the game more approachable in the beginning, thus we have reworked the onboarding experience, making some initial quests optional, increasing the ability of playing the game again, and speeding up the very first stages of your adventure.

 • First off, recipes require less planks and other, more advanced resources.
 • You can recruit wandering refugees from the very beginning.
 • You can now truly build where you want and don’t have to backtrack to Toshichi to be able to build your first bell tower and house.
 • You can skip Sosogi quests (and most other quests in the game, but you might still want to do them since they will give you Dynasty XP and can speed up your development).

Better Recipe Unlocking System: We wanted you, as a player, to feel a true sense of progression and growth, whenever you explore a new area, find new resources, loot new items, and complete challenges that the game throws at you. That’s why one of the most significant changes is the improved recipe unlocking system, which rewards you with new recipes after fulfilling specific criteria for that recipe. Until now recipes were unlocked only by achieving specific Dynasty Legend levels. New ways of unlocking recipes are:

 • Acquiring specific items.
 • Building certain structures.
 • Purchasing the recipes directly on the Radial Menu.
 • Buying recipe blueprints from a trader (or looting them).

Dynasty Experience Points and Levelling: We have completely reworked how Dynasty Legend levels are obtained. Dynasty Legend remains the crucial measure of your Dynasty's prestige, unlocking unique and useful recipes each time you level up, but now the progression feels more linear, and is divided into more milestones. Here are the details:

 • Better progression - You can still complete quests and finish special projects to level up, but they will earn you Dynasty XP instead of giving you Dynasty Legend levels directly. When you amass enough XP, you will reach the next level.
 • A new way to gain Dynasty XP - Recruiting more refugees into your Dynasty. Each time the number of your villagers reaches a new high, you will be rewarded Dynasty XP, making it the most reliable method of levelling, encouraging you to make larger and larger villages - or perhaps founding new ones.

More villagers mean a more prestigious Dynasty, but also means a lot more work to manage their needs. We know that this can be an issue, so stay tuned for more details about the Kintsugi update, where we will tell you about changes to the production system, needs consumption priority, Dynasty Storage, and more!
